Grail Springs in Bancroft, Canada
Just when you least expect it, an undiscovered pleasure like Grail Springs presents itself. This spa and healing retreat, located in the ancient Granite Highlands of Canada's Central Ontario, nourishes your every sense - from touch and taste to the sights and sounds that envelop the resort and region. This adult-only hideaway is surrounded by a fairy tale moat, and emulates an old-world European charm with its stone turrets, heavy iron accents and fleet of gothic windows. The collection of "retreat suites" are princess-worthy with their soothing garden or lakeside views, dreamy balconies, roaring fireplaces and modern comforts.
Escape to the quiet meditation garden to do a little soul searching, or stake claim to a bench in the eucalyptus steam room. There is also an al fresco hot tub, tea room and lounge, and sun deck. Choose to dine in the award-winning, casually-elegant restaurant or stay put in your personal fortress and request room service instead. At Grail Springs the emphasis is on holistic healing, which is evident at the full-service spring-fed spa, offering everything from aromatherapy to seaweed wraps. The outdoor grotto and sacred labyrinth are additional components to help get you centered. Autumn is an especially inspiring season in this region, and winter lends itself well to cross-country skiing or dog sledding. Grail Springs is truly a one-of-a-kind getaway and a place that simply must be experienced first hand.

Reviews for Grail Springs
I reserved a Day pass at Grail Springs and looking forward for the yoga, meditation and spa retreat. Although it was very pricey, it included, as the e-mail I received confirmed: « Your Full day Spa includes the following: Locker, showers, amenities, towels, robe, slippers (Bring your own Bathing Suit) Yoga and Meditation class from 8:30am to 10am or 10am to 11:00am (Monday's) Full use of the facilities from 8:30am to 5:30pm: FAR infrared, dry and wet saunas, outdoor hot soaking and cold plunge tub, specialty detox equipment: chi and whole body vibration machines, fireplace lounge with morning and afternoon detox elixirs and snacks Healthy two-course lunch with herbal teas Includes $75.00 Spa credit towards any treatment of your choice » I thought I should go for it since the place is highly recommended. I specifically mentioned by e-mail I was really interested in the yoga and meditation part and asked for the schedule. I got up at 4am to get there early enough to catch the yoga class. When I got there they told me the yoga instructor was unfortunately hurt and wasn’t able to make it. The yoga was replaced with a hike. It was pouring rain. Since I wasn’t dressed to have a « hike » in the rain because I wasn’t expecting that at all, I had to skip it. And wasn’t offered any credit whatsoever... The spa premises are ok, but there aren’t a lot of options and only one spa, one dry sauna, one infrared sauna and one wet sauna which are all super small.... I was quite disappointed... although the view was magnificent. The meditation was OK but it felt rushed and planned last minute... There wasn’t any morning snack and elixir as stated in the e-mail. The lunch wasn’t a two course service as stated in the email. The food was bland and there was about 10 black beans on my plate... so I starved all day. I used the Spa credit toward a 30 min shoulder and neck massage which cost 80$.... the guy was nice but most definitely not certified which was SUPER disappointing considering the cost. I sadly do not understand how this place won so many awards. The only positive thing I can say is the view is stunning, the staff was friendly and the place quite calming... although I heard clients complain all day about their lives.... but that is not the Retreats fault. I sincerely feel like it was a waste of my money since I was really looking forward for a day of yoga, meditation and relaxation with qualified staff. I basically payed 200$ and travelled 6 hours back and forth to do a meditation, be hungry all day, get a 30 min massage by someone who is as qualified as my boyfriend and use spa facilities that were pretty average. I should’ve done a home spa instead. I was expecting a lot more from them :(
I booked a 4-night stay with a friend at Grail Springs July 2017. I expected a weight loss/energy boosting week but got something completely different. Instead of focusing on 'outer' health, GS focuses on your inner well-being; the mind-body connection and your connection to spirit. I'm not sure how to describe it and I'm sure everyone experiences something different, but for me, the 4 nights changed my whole outlook on life. On more practical terms; the rooms are lovely, beds amazingly comfortable. The food is for the most part, delicious, with some misses. They follow an alkaline diet with a mud drink in the morning. We brought our own coffee which we enjoyed in our room each morning. The days are spent doing yoga, meditation, hiking, spa treatments and just enjoying the property. We did the horse medication which I highly recommend. Each evening there were informative talks and this staff is really knowledgeable. There is a peacefulness at this resort; an almost magical feeling, difficult to describe. If you are thinking of embarking on a life change or just need to press the reset button, I highly recommend Grail Springs.

An excellent place to stay for healthy tasty meals, enlightening conversations, interesting people, caring staff in a beautiful peaceful setting. Plenty of activities: yoga, nature trails, canoeing, paddle boat, paddleboard and campfire. A variety of treatments to balance your chakras. Most importantly, I met some wonderful people open to spirituality including numerology, astrology, plus totems! The staff provided guidance to take me to the next level. The key is the diet: alcohol free and vegetarian meals. A high cost for a 6 day/5 night stay, but certainly beats a tropical resort where you will suffer jet lag on the return. Instead I left refreshed.

Just came back from a two night stay at the Grail Springs Retreat. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The room was super clean and lovely with a view of the lake, but it was located directly above the kitchen with all that it entails re. sounds and smells - both good and bad - not ideal if you are looking for peace and quiet. I love the fact that there was a kettle in the room with some delicious tea from Tealish and you could steep it in these perfect size tea cups. I loved some of the other guests that I met and they made the 2 day experience memorable and so enjoyable especially at meal times. The soaps, shampoos etc were really nice but the shower head was standard, spitting water at me and leaving me wanting more of an experience when I'm away at a retreat. A nice rainfall shower head would have been a great addition to the bathroom. I have to say that I really enjoyed the food and I was satisfied with the portion sizes. I am not a coffee drinker and really love tea, so the fact that there is NO coffee didn't make much difference to me, but if you love your coffee, either bring some or be prepared to go without for your length of stay. Some of the other guests did not love the food all that much and some not at all, which posed a bit of a problem because at meal time, you only get one choice of a dish and everyone has to eat the exact same thing with the exact same portion size... so almond butter and jelly sandwiches were a thing among some of the other travellers as a meal replacement. The grounds are well maintained and everything is pretty and clean, but not spectacular. The saunas took a long time to heat up. The hot tub wasn't that hot and the cold dip wasn't that cold. The staff were ok to turn things on but you have to open the hot tub up yourself if you want to use it and same goes for the cold dip - you get to move the heavy covers off if you want to use either. There was yoga offered and the instructors were lovely, but the room was small for the number of people in it. The treatment rooms are located downstairs and the spaces feel dark and a little dingy. The infrared sauna takes a very long time to heat up, which is disappointing as you get to sign up for a 15 minute time slot only to spend most of that time waiting for the sauna to heat up... one of the other guests suggested booking 2 fifteen minute time slots in order to actually get to sweat in the sauna. Do not expect to get any work done on your computer - which can be both a blessing and a curse since we are so connected and love our devices but also need a break and need to disconnect sometimes. The internet is NOT high speed AT ALL and spotty at best... you will struggle to open emails. I could eventually load some Spotify music to play in the background but do not plan on watching any videos etc. No Neflix for sure! I really enjoyed some of the staff and not so much others... leaving today left me feeling underwhelmed to say the least. If you consider that the last interaction you have with the staff leaves the most lasting impression, I was not left with a good one. The two women seemed cold and preoccupied with explaining the details of my very large bill - this place is really NOT cheap and I have to say that for what you get, it is not worth the very long drive to get there and does not justify the expense.

My daughter and I have been to this retreat twice and while we enjoyed my stay both times, I encountered a lot of difficulty on my 3rd attempt to go. My husband was extremely ill and my sister passed away, so I had to cancel my trip for this year. The office refused my request FOR refund and I referred it up the line to the manager, who also refused. I wrote a personal and confidential letter to the owner, who never called me. Eventually, after another call, the manager emailed and refunded my deposit "for compassionate" reasons. NOTE: I had not even booked a date...I had only placed a deposit for my next booking to get the loyalty discount. Totally unacceptable and we will both NEVER go there again.
