Bluefields Bay Villas in Bluefields, Jamaica
Bluefields Bay Villas rings with authenticity. It’s a rare all-inclusive experience where guests are immersed in the Jamaica that existed before tourism - staying in cottages isolated from each other and the rest of the world. This is the leeward side of the island, so the waters – and life – are calm around here.
Your Ideal Day: Breakfast is served when you awake - no need to rush anywhere. Don a snorkel and fins and swim right into the water from your villa to spend some time with the damselfish. Or take the glass-bottomed boat out a bit further for a snorkeling experience with a group, friendly captain and cooler of Red Stripes. Paddle out into the calm, tepid bay on sea kayaks to watch the sun set into the water ahead. Dine on traditional pumpkin soup, salt fish and conch prepared by your villa chef, in the intimate space of your own private “island” accessible by land bridge.

Reviews for Bluefields Bay Villas
Had the pleasure of staying at Bluefield Bay Villas this past summer- we stayed at the villa called Hermitage but also got the chance to spend some time at a few of the other villas - San Michele, Mullion Cove and Cottonwood Cottage. Some are on the same property and some are separate. The location is amazing- far from "touristy" areas so very quiet and relaxed. We were on a bluff overlooking the sea, from which you could walk down to a large stretch of amazing beach, part of which is exclusively for guests' use. There are walkways and private coves and hidden sitting areas all along the seaside where you could relax in private. The villas are surrounded by lush tropical gardens and the interiors are appointed with a fabulous selection of antique hardwood furniture (mostly mahogany I am guessing). Even more impressive than the physical location is the level of service - the staff is expertly trained and would fit in perfectly in any high end hotel or restaurant worldwide (this is not the typical experience in Jamaica, persons can be friendly and enthusiastic in these roles but often do not have the sophisticated level of training and management to accompany this.). Every meal was introduced by the chef, our waiter/butler knew about the wines, there was always someone nearby if you needed something, but also removed enough to not be intrusive. I've stayed at villas and hotels throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean, but I really can't recommend this property enough- they're really on a completely different level than the vast majority of others.

My husband and I just returned from a 5 day stay at Bluefields Bay. We stayed at the Providence House from Sept 17th to 21st. It was wonderful all around – food, people, weather! We visited during the rainy season but it only rained a little bit on the first day and then for several hours on the 2nd, and the rest of the time it was sunny and hot! Ocean water was extremely warm, even in the early hours in the morning. The Providence House is beautiful! It’s a big house, built right into the cliff, surrounded by very lush greenery! Trees, flowers everywhere, lots of birds and critters all over. It’s so green that not only are neighboring villas completely out of sight, some of the villas are so hidden by the trees you can’t even see them from the water. Jeremy, the groundskeeper, does a great job taking care of all plants and flowers, everything is beautiful! The Providence House is lovely, filled with antique furniture, doilies and beautiful silver (as in, serving dishes and such). We felt like we were staying in someone’s home, which I have to admit felt a little strange. It was very cozy but we also felt like we couldn’t quite treat it like we would your typical hotel room (like put feet on the furniture) because we didn’t want to ruin anything or seem disrespectful. Especially since the staff is always in the house with you – we didn’t want to seem rude. But the accommodations were great – large comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, large common area, awesome pool and a deck area overlooking the ocean. All windows look out the ocean and the view is by far the best we’ve ever seen! Those sunsets!! The Providence House has probably the best beach of all the villas at Bluefields. There’s a fairly large beach area just for this house. It’s accessible by several sets of stairs, maybe 60 steps or so. It is very private – nobody else can access the beach unless they swim or kayak over. It is all rock though, so water shoes are highly recommended! There is a lovely sandy beach just a little further down, you can get to it walking on the road or taking a kayak. It’s a public beach but a section of it is reserved just for Bluefields guests, with chairs and umbrellas and two attendants (Dennis and Jovi) ready to fetch you a towel or a cocktail. But we enjoyed the Providence beach very much, spent most of our time there! There is also a lovely cave with a hammock and beach chairs, we spent hours there. Aldeen, the butler, would check on us now and then, bringing us drinks. And one day he even set up our lunch in the cave, it was lovely. The pool area is also great! A note though – the beach and the pool area are in the shade till about 11 am, the only way to get sun is to be out in the water. There’s an aquafloat that’s meant to be tied out in the water to float on, so you can get sun. However, I couldn’t get anyone to inflate it for me – I asked twice, and even the manager Carmen said she’ll get someone to blow it up for me. I never did get to enjoy the float, but oh well. The food was delicious!! We had 2 choices for every meal and my husband and I would always choose different, so we could try each other’s. All the food was amazing. Every day we had breakfast, lunch, appetizers during cocktail hour and dinner. And there were always cookies or banana bread set up on the bar to munch on during the day. Vian, the chef, prepared lunches and dinners, and breakfast was cooked by the housekeepers, Okeem and Karryean, and everything they made was delicious! The staff – housekeeper, butler, chef and the groundskeeper – are around all day. They spend most of the time outside or in the kitchen area, with the doors shut. You can call for them any time you need anything. They do come out to do their stuff, like set the table or check if you need anything. So in that respect, it was a bit of an adjustment being in the house and knowing that there are other people there all the time. Even at night – Noles is there all night. So again, not like your traditional hotel experience. You definitely can’t come out of the shower naked into the living room. So if that’s your thing, this resort is not for you. The first day we were shy and almost felt like we were intruding on their day, but everyone made it very clear that they are there for us and they really try hard not to intrude on your day. By the end of our stay, I wished we could see them out and about more often so I could ask for yet another ‘One Love’ cocktail :) I do have to mention the road. It was probably the only thing we wish could’ve been different. It’s a very busy road (think dump truck and gas tankers zooming past) and it’s loud. You can hear trucks rumbling past all day long. We didn’t sleep great the 1st night, even with the white noise machine. We got used to the noise a bit by the 2nd night and it became less noticeable, but it was still there. But overall, we had a wonderful vacation and would recommend it highly!!

My husband and I recently visited Bluefields Bay Villas and had an amazing experience! The location is absolutely beautiful with stunning views of the sea from pretty much every room in the house (we stayed at Hermitage). The villa was fabulous with a rare attention to detail in the furniture and decor, combining traditional Jamaica with modern conveniences! Congratulations to the designers and decorators! The food was delicious and the service was also excellent - don't think there is anywhere better in Jamaica for a relaxing holiday. Looking forward to another visit soon! And have to mention the private beach which is certainly one of the best Jamaica has to offer!! Thank you Bluefields Bay Villas!

We spent a wonderful two weeks at Bluefields in August. We stayed at The Hermitage and Mullion Cove. Both are lovely properties; beautifully furnished and seconds from the beach, which is quite stunning. As so many other guests have already said, it really is the staff that makes Bluefields so exceptional. Everyone of them is kind, sincere, engaging and a pleasure to deal with. We left feeling like we were saying goodbye to friends and family. We hope to visit again soon.

My husband and I went to Bluefields after dropping off our only child at college. We've been twice before with larger family groups, but this was our first visit "alone." We keep returning because our experience has been so amazing EVERY time. They do an incredible job of helping to anticipate your every need, and carry everything out with elegance and abundant kindness. And though there is always someone around, ready to help or serve in any way, you never feel surrounded. You can make the experience as private or social as you'd like to. Bluefields is paradise, actually!
