Dark and soulless rooms detract from the resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

Tired, dark, damp and smelly rooms. Avoid the back of buildings ha 2 and 3 as they are so dark and unpleasant. The staff on the whole (particular the males) are fabulous but Ruth on reception needs to work on her customer skills. She was sassy and unhelpful.

Poorly run resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

We stayed at Dreams Riviera Cancun with a huge group (our family + ~24 other families with kids). We had a Preferred Club Family Suite, but Preferred felt meaningless. We constantly had to beg for alcohol that was “included” (we only drank Don Julio and it was always an issue). Service was wildly inconsistent. Premier Bar: Ronaldo ignored us repeatedly; Gerasamo was respectful and great. Pool area: the resort has a massive adults-only pool sitting empty while 90% of families were crammed into the family pool—overcrowded with no chairs. John promised chairs/daybeds and then didn’t set anything up and avoided us; Alex was kind; Victor was attentive. Food was a daily frustration. Ocean Restaurant: almost 2 hours for kids’ gluten-free pasta. Buffet was poor with no food labels; we were told no avocado while the next table had it. Breakfast “extra strawberries” = two pieces. At the Grill, asking for a second plate of fries for 4 kids made the cook visibly annoyed and we had to explain why. Beach was awful—dirty brown water with plastic bags/cups floating. If you’re a beach person, don’t come here. A few bright spots: coffee shop staff, kids club (Fatima & Wendy), magic show, and manager Jessica Biox tried to help. Fire show felt too dark/demonic for families. Bottom line: every family in our group had issues and none of us would return.

BEWARE!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

First off, all of us got sick. We were a 10 party and also had an infant and a toddler who also got sick. Traveling home from vacation and being sick on a 4 hour flight is unbearable. The food was not very good, obviously, but I am wondering if it was the ice too? Also, with a big party you cannot all sit together at most restaurants, some you can but have to pay a fee. The exchange rate at the hotel was off, it started 15 pesos to every dollar which is not right, they are scamming you there. Tips are not included which they state are. There were constant weddings going on so it was hard to move about the hotel. Sometimes as many as 4 a day. The rooms are not very clean and some days don't get to your room until late evening. The rooms were also missing amenities, we had five rooms and they were not stocked the same. One room had no soap. I will not go back and will be making a formal complaint with the hotel!!! Please be beware of getting sick here!

Would not recommend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

The resort was clean and the staff was very nice. However, the food was mediocre at best and the drinks tasted very odd, almost chemically like Diet Coke. My whole family got sick here including my 3 year old son. I was very sick traveling home and it was a nightmare plane ride.

Wouldn't Go Back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This would not be the place that I would recommend for people to go if you have ever been to an all-inclusive. It was more of a wedding venue than anything. Sometimes as many as 3 weddings per day and it blocks the other guests from just being able to navigate around the hotel. The food had no taste and really did not compare to other all inclusives we have stayed in. They don't put out enough chairs between the pool and the beach. I had to go down as early as 6am each morning just to claim chairs. They say that the activities are included but then when you go up, you are told to go pay for a band to cover taxes. The fitness room is small so don't plan that you will always get a space to workout. If you are in building 1, try to move rooms if you open to the restaurants. The club goes until 1AM and it is super loud. The fire show will also be super loud if you are on that side. Try to stay in another building if you can or on the backside of 1. The weddings are everywhere and we had two other couples who were up late due to their music as well.
