Reviews for Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa

This is a wedding resort- only book if you like watching weddings

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

First impressions of the resort were good: it’s small, tidy, and generally well kept. Unfortunately, the positives ended there. The buffet was one of the worst we’ve experienced. There were very limited options, and many dishes were poorly or not labelled at all. This led to my partner (who dislikes seafood) unknowingly being served chicken stuffed with crab, something that could easily have been avoided with proper food labelling. The room was acceptable but dated, with no soundproofing whatsoever. We could clearly hear outside entertainment, and even basic noises like neighbouring guests using a hairdryer came straight through the walls. The main reason we left after just two nights was that it became obvious this is effectively a wedding resort, despite not being marketed as such. While relaxing by the activity pool (between the adult-only pool), we were told by staff at 2pm to move so a wedding setup could take place. There was nowhere else to sit, and only after it was clear we were unhappy were we offered a cabana bed in the shade, away from the pool edge. The wedding setup took place between the two pools, which felt completely unfair to other guests. The ceremony itself was held beside the infinity pool: music was switched off, security style staff were positioned around the pool area, and the wedding party procession blocked access to one of the bars and the beach. This was extremely disruptive to what is supposed to be a relaxing holiday. As the day went on, it felt as though wedding parties were everywhere, including on the main foyer steps. Given the small size of the resort and the number of weddings taking place, the atmosphere felt dominated by events we hadn’t signed up to attend. We fully understand that destination weddings happen, but they should not be detrimental to paying guests’ holidays, nor should guests be moved or inconvenienced to accommodate them. If weddings are this frequent and intrusive, this resort should either clearly advertise itself as a wedding-focused or wedding only resort, or limit the impact on other guests. In the end, we chose to leave early, received a refund for the remaining nights, and moved to another resort where we could actually relax

Home is where the hearts are!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 23 hours ago

We have been at this resort many times and it feels like home every time because of the heart-warming welcome we receive. Sergio was the 1st warm hearted person, making sure we had no questions. Next, Hector at check-in, was pleasant and helpful with another warm heart. During the day, our hearts were fill with kind, caring, pleasant friends that made us feel "at home" with the fantastic service we received at the pool from Alex, Victor Isreal and Lenrery. At Seaside Grill and Oceana, we had great at home service from Aseal, Arseno, Enrique, Ignacio and Paulina with their warm smiles, conversation and personal touch to make us feel like an old friend. All of their hearts are all in the right place when it comes to making us happy to be home. The master of the warm heart was Abraham. He made sure every meal was perfect and prepared "just for us" and continually checked to see if there was something he could do to improve it. We met a new friend, Uzzy, at the pool and he definitely gave us a warm fuzzy feeling with his determination to include everyone with his activities. A+ but I still refuse to do Yoga! LOL Our nightly, warm home feeling was given to us by the best friends we could have, Teo from Portofino and Jessica from Bordeaux. Those two made sure our food was the best tasting and our meals were top notch. The steak and seafood were spectacular, along with the service. We do want to give a shout out to the Barefoot Grill and CoCo Cafe for the awesome snacks, service and smiles! To round out our trip with the heart of home service, we spoke with Dan K about our return trip. He gave us great service and confirmed why Dreams Riviera Cancun IS our home with the BIG hearts!

Some ups and downs

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

There were good and bad points to this resort. One thing that is very important to us is that the pools were heated. This time of year many resorts can have pools too cold. This was very pleasant water. The New Year's Eve experience was not so good. A restaurant manager tried to upsell me for the dinner. I ended up paying $200 for what I thought was going to be a special dinner with champagne and sparkling beverages for the kids. We ended up being seated at the buffet after being told all of the restaurants had the same menu. I felt deceived. They also lost a pair of headphones and a neck pillow. When luggage arrived at our room, one of my bags was unzipped and turned upside down. Unfortunately, I didn't discover the missing items until we were at the airport. The staff is very friendly but I find that at most of the resorts we go to in Cancun. The nightly entertainment is lacking and the NYE celebration went far too long into the night. It was loud at 2am, which is not good for a resort that services familier.

Family Vacation!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Did so much research! Great for our family of 5 (kids are 5 and 7 years old). Food was better than expected. We typically stay at the JW marriot in Cancun but this was a family trip so for a family resport this was great! Perfect size to not feel overwhelmed and we had rooms with a great view. Very kid friendly staff and meal options!

Pedro took incredible care of our 80 person group on the beach. Always set up cabanas, daybeds, umbrellas. Top notch!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Pedro, who worked as our beach butler during our stay at Dreams Riviera Cancun, was absolutely excellent. We were part of a very large group of nearly 80 people, and Pedro went above and beyond every single day to make sure everything was perfectly set up for us. He handled lounge chairs, day beds, umbrellas were always making sure our group was accommodated comfortably and without stress. Despite the size of our group, he was organized, attentive, and consistently friendly. His professionalism and positive attitude truly stood out. Pedro made our beach experience seamless and enjoyable, and his level of service significantly enhanced our stay. Dreams Riviera Cancun is lucky to have him and he is a true asset to the resort. Highly recommend recognizing Pedro for his exceptional service!
