I was at Dreams Riviera Cancun for my nephew's wedding. It was my first time in Mexico, and my first experience at an all-inclusive resort. The wedding was wonderful, the facility was beautiful, and the service in the spa, bars and restaurants, hotel reception, and pool/beach area was friendly and very attentive. It was great to be pampered for a few days.

We stayed here from May 14-19th 2017. We stayed in an OceanFront Master Suite because we needed a separate room since we brought our 2 1/2 year old toddler. We payed a LOT for this room expecting luxury with a gorgeous, quiet view. I will mention the negatives first in the hopes that Dreams can fix the issues mentioned so that we can return. We will not return if changes are not made. 1. The furnishings in the master suite were cheap, old and ugly. Our small couch was broken in that it squeaked so bad when we tried to sit on it that we could not sit on it. The springs were broken. The furniture was just gross for a luxury room, cheap refrigerator, etc. And moving rooms would not have helped since I assume it is the same furniture in all master suites. The room also needed some color, a re-design. Everything was brown. And the "jacuzzi" on the balcony is just a cheap, plastic bath-tub that was filthy when we arrived. I rinsed it out myself, but it needs replaced. 2. We were paying for the 2nd most expensive room in the entire resort. You would think that would get us the quiet, ocean-front room we expected. But no, they have weddings every day, no joke. And every day they set up a reception of some kind directly in front of the ocean-front rooms on the right side of the resort. These rooms need to be discounted since we had to deal with music and lights every single night. We have a toddler with autism and a rare chromosome disorder. We need quiet for her to sleep. My husband was upset and went to talk to management, an assistant manager, the only person who would talk with him. That person guaranteed us that there were no more receptions with noise in front of our room the rest of our stay. But they lied. The next night, there was a "bonfire" teepee set up and a loud mayan style drumming group arrived. They must change their wedding reception policy and not allow them in front of the rooms. If they do, discount these rooms on the right side and put a disclaimer online when booking. If someone needs quiet, they need to be put on the left side of the resort. 3. Room service food is awful! We have previously stayed at the Grand Residences and their room service is amazing. Because our daughter naps during lunch-time, we need to order room service for lunch and often breakfast since she does not eat in restaurants due to her sensory problems. The breakfast is not edible. They do not know how to cook eggs, anywhere in the resort. We did not enjoy breakfast either at room service or anywhere in the resort. 4. There is no pool service for food. We have always had food delivery by the pool at other resorts. This is important when with kids because we cannot always get out of the pool to eat if our daughter wants to stay in the pool. And there are no food options for lunch by the pool. There is a place for pizza. And then a place for burgers, that are gross and some stale chips and salsa. There is an ocean-front restaurant, but you cannot take food to go. They will not deliver to the pool or allow any food out of the restaurant. It is a ridiculous policy. We always felt hungry because we could not eat any good food for lunch since our daughter has a hard time sitting in restaurants. POSITIVES: 1. Most of the staff were very nice! Daisy in the coffee shop in the afternoon was wonderful and our daughter, Adelise, just loved her! My nail technician in the spa, Monica, was fantastic and most of the waiters for dinner in the restaurants were really nice. 2. The sand on the beach is great! It is soft and white. The water is calm and swimmable. Of course, all beaches are having trouble with seaweed recently due to climate change and/or oil spills in the gulf (so I have read). 3. The food for dinner is good quality. (Which is different from breakfast quality). But it is weird how tiny portions are. We eat high quality food and have lived in San Francisco and eaten in Manhattan. These portions are a joke and it seems the resort wants to save money rather than actually feed us. I had ravioli for dinner at the italian restaurant and I got 3 ravioli. It was good, but tiny portions. 4. The pools were all very nice and our daughter loved them! In all, unless the wedding reception issue is addressed, along with re-furbished room furniture and better room service and overall breakfast quality, we will not return. If these things are addressed, then we will be happy to return. Oh, and change the policy to where people can get their food to go from a restaurant if their child is crying and will not sit in the restaurant. We are all paying a lot for food and deserve to get our food to go and eat it in our room.

First off, Karla is simply amazing. I highly recommend contacting her through the Dreams Facebook page if you have any questions or special needs. She was very helpful and always responded quickly. We were immediately met with towels and drinks when we arrived. Our room was not ready, as we got there around 1pm. We had lunch and walked around and it was ready by 2:30. We were also upgraded to a beautiful ocean view room in the preferred club which was a wonderful surprise when we got to our room. The room was beautiful and spotless, but could use more storage for clothing and suitcases. We felt we were constantly tripping over them and had no drawers and limited hangers. For a family of 4, it was slightly frustrating. We were nervous about the privacy issue in the bathroom after reading other reviews, but it was not a problem for us at all. We had our 8 and 16 year old children with us, and we simply took turns getting ready. The resort was not full during our stay and there were considerably less children than we expected. It was actually quite peaceful! The pools were very clean and comfortable, the bartenders at the swim up bar were great! And you could not beat the view from the infinity pool! We have stayed at Secrets many times in the past, and I was hoping the food would be comparable. Unfortunately it was not. The breakfast buffet had a good selection but it was the same every day. However, Jorge Luis Morales kept us coming back! He was so friendly and kept our mimosas flowing! He even remembered the day we were leaving and made us a special dessert with a message written in chocolate! The Italian restaurant was almost inedible. Which is weird, because it's our favorite at secrets! The French restaurant was quite good, but the service was so slow that we left 30 minutes after ordering our dessert and not receiving it. Oceana was also so repetitive that while the food was pretty good, we were all sick of having lunch there by the time we left! We had a great experience at Himitzu, the chef was so entertaining! I wish I could remember his name! The food there was also very good. The Mexican was our absolute favorite. They treated us like family, and kept us all entertained. Enrique was the best server! The entertainment was hit or miss. A couple of the shows were great, a couple were less than great! All in all, we had a wonderful trip, and would not hesitate to return if we bring the children again! For us tho, it's back to Secrets in November!
