Reviews for Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa

Best resort we’ve been to in decades

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

We’ve only to been to one other resort that met the same high standards and it was also a Dreams. We had no issues and were impressed with the level of service and attention to detail. Like having umbrellas everywhere. Zero worries about food safety. Shoutout to Jonathan who made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. He truly was one of our highlights of the trip. The resort is stunning and impeccably kept. All staff are so kind and welcoming. The pools are great although a little cold even for Canadians. The ocean was not great for swimming due to seaweed. Drinks were awesome and waiters were attentive! All in all, we had a great time and a lot of laughs. Highly recommend to families. There is always something for the kids to do.

Avoid this hotel and save your money

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel it’s necessary to warn others. The biggest issue was the restaurants. If you’re planning to eat at any of the à la carte options, be prepared to wait over an hour unless you arrive right at opening time. There’s no proper system in place, and the lines quickly become long and disorganized. It turned what should have been an enjoyable dining experience into a daily source of stress. On top of that, the hotel is clearly not equipped to handle the number of guests it accommodates. Everything feels overcrowded—from the restaurants to the bars—and it often felt like there simply weren’t enough staff or resources to provide a good experience. The bar staff didn’t help the situation either. They were consistently rude, dismissive, and acted like serving guests was an inconvenience. Simple requests were often met with attitude, which only added to the frustration. Finally, the beach was a major letdown. It was full of seaweed and clearly not well-maintained, making it unpleasant to swim or even relax by the water. Overall, the combination of overcrowding, poor restaurant management, unfriendly service, and an unappealing beach made this a trip I wouldn’t repeat. I would not recommend this resort.

Sub par stay at Dream Riviera Cancun

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

My wife and I recently stayed at this resort and sadly we did not have a very good experience. I got food poisoning the very first day in the World Cafe. So that day was kind of a bust. Food quality was also just relatively poor in general compared to other Dreams we've stayed at. But also on top of that, despite paying for an upgrade to a honeymoon suite, the promised amenities outlined in the upgrade letter were not there in the room. No specialty bottle was delivered on the first night as stated, the upgraded bar was never provided, and aromatherapy was not offered on any day of our stay. Additionally, we were disturbed by a private beach party just outside our room late one evening. We reported this to the front desk at the time; however, upon checkout, the female receptionist stated there was no record of this complaint. This was both frustrating and dismissive. Only after checking out, the concierge did acknowledge that a complaint had been logged, which was even more annoying since the check out receptionist it wasn't there, so was she lying? The overall lack of attentiveness to our concerns was deeply disappointing.

Great vacation location.

Overall wonderful experience. We went with a large group of friends all adults, no children. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The service was great at all locations on the resort. Multiple times we walked into a restaurant with 10-14 people and were always accommodated. Alex our pool waiter at the cabanas was incredible. Pedro the cabana guy was great. Clever in the lobby bar is a genius. Always remembers your name and drink. Johnathan and Manila, waiters from French and Mexican restaurants were awesome. Manila makes a great Mexican coffee. Uzzy the pool events coordinator was very funny. I would say just be aware that ocean view rooms are not all ocean view. Our ocean view room was a view of palm trees. We did have a small issue with our shower, and it was taken care of with in 30 minutes. Wonderful vacation.

Great for families!

This resort is wonderful! Everyone we encountered in the staff was so friendly and helpful! We came with our 3 boys ages 6,4,2 and they went out of their way to make sure our stay was easy and convenient. We did the preferred guest access which granted us to the VIP lounge and exclusive beach access huts. Big shout out to Erik Ramirez , who always greeted us every morning with a smile on his face and got us chairs and a hut every morning, so our kids can comfortably stay in the shade for a break, but also could play at the beach and we could be comfortable as parents. He also made sure the kids had toys or water or whatever they needed. Ricardo was wonderful at the pool for drink service as well. Always went out of his way to remember what we wanted and brought it to us anytime he saw us. The service really is excellent here. The grill chef at the pool always greeted us with a smile for our many many french fry runs during the day. We did not get to take advantage of the kids club as much as we thought. It does not open access to parents, but rather you drop your kids off if they’re over three years old. So we did not really know what was inside though they did offer us to give us a tour early in the morning. It was also very regimented with their activities so my kids were really only free from 5 PM to 6 PM which was always face painting. I wish they would rotate the activities. The ladies at the kids club are very sweet though, and I’m sure if we didn’t spend all day at the beach of the pool, my kids would’ve probably taken advantage. I wish the arcade was larger as well because my kids loved that. The kids absolutely loved the magic show and the mini disco. We also love the Coco café for unlimited ice cream and coffee anytime a day. The food of the resort is OK. I would say that Asian restaurant is superior to the other others. Service did take a long time but still friendly. We were a little disappointed that the world Café didn’t open till 6 PM every day for dinner. So from 4-6 pm, no dining option really for kids. There are also activities in the evening, but they were so late. For a kid friendly resort, my recommendation is that they consider moving the timings for shows to earlier than 8:30 PM. Most kids are asleep by then ( which many of the parents with little kids agreed) so we missed a lot of the shows. Jacuzzi on balcony - amazing . Infinity pool- adults only , great. Kids pool area - awesome. Only complaint was all the water was SO COLD. All in all, we had a wonderful week and we would consider staying at any dream resort again in the future.
