Eclectic rhythms and a lively atmosphere embrace guests as they arrive to Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun. This relaxing yet contemporary Adults Only, All-Inclusive luxury, a part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, seems to have achieved the impossible: an upscale all-inclusive resort with a Cancun address that's low-key enough to be considered a wellness retreat. Bright, spacious rooms in shades of white and cream contrast with the turquoise of seaside infinity pools. Service is top-notch here, and ambient music from a resident DJ lends itself to a Zen mindset.

There’s more good than bad…but this is a former 5-star resort…my wife and I had an oceanfront aqua club room for 4 nights. For reference, We had never stayed at live aqua in the past, but have been to Cancun/RM/PDC etc many times. First of all, the staff we’ve have encountered while here have really been great. Our Butlers (Phany and Viri) knew our names from the moment we met and every encounter was personable and great. They were always looking to help or offer ideas at every encounter. They checked on us a few times every day. The Aqua Club provided a great respite for a drink or snack throughout our trip, highly recommend Guillermo, dude is a star. The food was good by any standard (very good or great by all-inclusive standards). Loved MB, Hidden Garden, and Verano (Siete is good for breakfast, but dinner was blah). We ate lunch poolside everyday, the menu is simple and the food good, if you want more complex, the seaside restaurant or Azure we’re open to go sit and eat. The spa is good, but my guess is that it was once much nicer…there was a whole circuit of saunas, steam rooms, “cool” (definitely wasn’t cold), and hot tub prior to our massage. The staff walks you through the experience. The spa has seen better days, there was some mold and discoloration in spots and it frankly just looked a little worn. Here’s what we noticed was a little negative and reaffirmed as we met a few people that had been here before and one couple that were regulars. We all noticed little things slipping. When we got to our room, the sliding glass doors were dirty and it was clear someone had been pressing their mouth, face on the glass, also there is a plethora or glass on the walls and all had smudges in it and hadn’t been cleaned in a while. The cabinet doors in the room didn’t fit together, in fact the cabinet door for the mini fridge was almost coming off. Every time we showered, water would flow out into the bathroom and toilet area, so we had to put a towel down to keep from slipping (they even warn you about how slippery the tile is when wet). If you take anything from the mini fridge or snack drawer, they don’t replace it throughout your stay, unless you ask (which is weird). To the pool…the pool has definitely seen better days. I’m not sure how you fix this in Cancun, but there were constantly tiles missing or coming up in the pool. I didn’t go a day and not see loose tiles or pickup a grouping of loose tiles. There was grout noticeably missing throughout the pool tiles. And the pool itself has a constant mold or something like that growing on the tiles and walls…it was kind of gross, but we adapted I guess. They have a “Mexican craft market” one evening, but walking through there felt like a gauntlet of overburdening sales people (this was over the top by even Mexican standards), and was very unnerving, we said no numerous times and frankly left quickly. Lastly, restaurants were randomly closed from night to night and they try very hard to upcharge you for wine at dinner…which again was odd. Having a butler helped us plan around restaurant closing, but if you didn’t have a butler, it would have been awkward. These are why I don’t think this place is 5-stars… Tipping: we got a pool bed every day and tipped our pool guy $10-20 (Jonathon is the best). We tipped our butlers $50 for the trip. And generally left $1-5 for a bartender. Sargassum…there was sargassum on the beach, but honestly, it didn’t bother us and was very manageable (if you want pristine, you’ll be disappointed, but otherwise it’s not a big deal). It’s very splotchy and you just walk or swim around the patches. There are tractors with rakes working the sargassum regularly. I’ve seen people complain about the smell…but frankly we don’t really notice. So all told, I would say this is a 4-star property, and at the discounted prices, it’s worth it, but if I’m paying full price, honestly, I’d look elsewhere…Hope this helps.

The location was beautiful and the atmosphere was calm and inviting. The butler service was unbelievably amazing! It made my whole trip relaxing and enjoyable! The staff were super courteous and friendly. The resort was clean, exciting and fun. The spa massage was perfect and the Mexican show was super entertaining! The negatives aren’t as abundant however we had no hot water for showers during our entire stay, the food was not tasty at all and the entire resort smelled very strongly of air fresheners that, at times, will make you hold your breath. Overall a great experience but do not expect an amazing meal or a warm shower.

Live Aqua is a very relaxing resort with a lot to offer. I would like to first thank Romero and Sakny (our butlers) for making this trip memorial and special for us. They treated us like family and made sure we were accommodated and comfortable day 1. This is more of a relaxing resort vs a party resort. The food was delicious and the breakfast smoothie bar was a plus for us. The gym was well maintained and had water and towels there for you. The pool was clean, pool service was amazing, and the towel game in full swing. The bbq grill was one of the highlights for us on this trip, we had chicken and pork ribs just about everyday!! The tacos at night were delicious and hit the spot after some drinks. Room service was one of the highlights for late night eats, sometimes we would forgo dinner just because the room service menu was so good! We would def consider this resort again for our next stay

We had an amazing experience at Live Aqua Cancun, and a huge part of that was Daniel by the pool! Daniel took care of us throughout our time at the pool, serving us both drinks and food, and he was absolutely incredible. He was extremely attentive, polite, friendly, and always made sure we had everything we needed. At one point, Daniel mentioned that he was new, and we honestly couldn’t believe it — we told him we would have guessed he had been doing this for decades because he was that good! Daniel by the pool truly went above and beyond and made our days at the resort so much more enjoyable. He is exactly the type of person who makes you want to come back to a resort. We would genuinely return to Live Aqua Cancun just because of the incredible service he provided us. Thank you, Daniel! You made our trip extra special, and we hope Live Aqua knows how lucky they are to have you!
