Reviews for Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun

Excellent

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

We stayed at Aqua for 4 nights recently. We had a great time and we were treated like kings and queens. The food and drinks were great. Lots of choices. Maggie and Eladio were our butlers and they were excellent! Highly recommend the resort.

Poorly managed

I would have rated my overall experience higher if it wasn't for a few disappointing issues our group experienced. The good: The location of the resort is very convenient, within 30 minutes of the Cancun airport and the main tourist strip. The beach is one of the best I have been to in Mexico; clean, soft sand, and it was shallow enough to walk out quite far and still only be waist-deep. The pools are all beautiful and well maintained. Poolside service was great, special shout out to the team at the swim up bar who were super attentive and accommodating to our group. The entertainment team, specifically Ricky Ricardo and Ludin were amazing and brought such great energy to the activities they led. In general, food was good, I highly recommend the breakfast at Azur, the in-room dining, and MB. The bad: We knew we were a big group of 13 and tried to contact the hotel in advance for any consideration on making dining reservations for our group, but we never received any response until halfway through trip. They were able to make 3 dinner reservations for us for our remaining nights. The first 2 days of our stay at Live Aqua were disappointing. Every restaurant we went to, we were told that it would be least a 1 - 1.5 hour wait, regardless of whether it was for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We were even open to splitting up into smaller groups, but the answer was always the same. On the first night, there was a special Dias de los Muertos event, where there was a buffet dinner and a show in the Conference Hall. We arrived promptly at the start time of 7 pm, but when we got to the food, 1/3 of the dishes were already empty and were not replenished quickly. This left us deeply unsatisfied and still hungry. Another frustrating incident occurred at the Hidden Garden restaurant. The hostess agreed to seat our group of 13 into two separate tables, but assigned us one table for 8 and another for 4, which only adds up to 12. We asked her whether we could simply add a chair to one of the tables as we do not mind squeezing in together and we could see empty tables with available chairs nearby. However, her response was a firm no and that it was not possible. This did not make sense to us at all and after some discussion, she reluctantly agreed. It was unnecessary rigidity that added to our already poor experience at the resort. The final incident has to be the most egregious. My friends’ flight wasn’t until later in the evening and so they left their bags with the concierge/bell staff while they went to explore the area. When they returned, they were informed their luggage was missing. After reviewing security footage, it was discovered that the staff had mistakenly given the bags to the wrong people. They were eventually able to retrieve most of the bags — but one backpack was still missing. The hotel promised to ship the items back to my friends, but as of now (six days after our departure on Thursday, November 6th, 2025), there has been no update. This was a serious and unacceptable mistake that should never have happened with proper organization and security procedures. Live Aqua Cancun definitely has many good features, but the lack of communication, poor dining management, and mishandling of guest belongings left a lasting negative impression.

Exceptional Hospitality from Arturo & Carlos at Live Aqua!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

My husband and I stayed at Live Aqua for a company event, and Arturo and Carlos made our trip incredible! They helped us with dinner and spa reservations, found laundry soap to save my white swimsuit after a suntan lotion mishap, and were always quick and kind with every request. Their hospitality made our first trip to Cancun unforgettable—thank you both so much! 💛

A mixed bag

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

CHECK IN : Nothing special,no drink or refreshing towel which surprised me. Lobby starting to look its age now. ROOM: Nice sized room with good facilities, big walk in shower. BEACH: Decent beach, some seaweed but not enough to bother us. POOL AREA: This resort has a problem with sunbed availability which results in sad desperados putting towels on beds at 7am. There should be more sunbeds and less chargeable 4 poster beds. The pool area also showing its age with lots of loose mosiac tiles. DRINKS: Unless you upgrade to Aqua club you will get mostly own brand local spirits. I did complain about the lack of Baileys original at the bars and management had a bottle sent to room for me which was good. FOOD: We booked here because of its reputation for superior food and it was a mixed bag. SIETE: Great for breakfast but mexican buffet at night lousy, only went once. AZUR: Decent in evening but nothing special SEA CORNER: Ok,went once didnt need to go back. VARENNA: Made to wait 90 mins for a table one evening then told we couldnt be seated and did we want food sent to room even though there were tables free. Turns out they hold them for Aqua club members. Food didnt meet the hype either, just ok. SUSHI STATION: Average, visited once. STARBUCKS: Nice coffee and pastries. HIDDEN GARDEN: Same as Varenna, long wait for tables unless you upgrade to Aqua club. Food average, nice setting. CARNIVORE: Didnt go as you have to pay. If a resort is all inclusive it should be all inclusive. POOL GRILL: Very good for ribs and chicken MB : The only excellent restaurant in the resort,we visited 7 times out of 14 days, superb, order the habanero soup ,Mahi Mahi or steak and you wont be disappointed. STAFF:This is where this resort excels with top quality staff,in no particular order hats off to : Cesar in Azur Alan in Azur David and Monica by the pool Angelica Carlos in Starbucks Cesar in Hidden Garden Daniel at yoga was amazing,a great teacher Ricky pool entertainment Rhoybi in MB Luis in Azur Rodrygo and Javier and Hector pool Julio in MB William the chef in MB Briccel Jose at Breakfast If you dont upgrade to Aqua club you are made to feel like a 2nd class citizen which i hated. This holiday was a big deal for my wife and i costing 5 thousand pounds for 2 weeks but felt cheap because we didnt upgrade. After complaining we were treated better the 2nd week and Cesar made reservations for us for the remaining 7 days in the restaurants and also reserved our favourite sunbeds so thank you. In the past we have always used RIU resorts but decided to upscale and pay more to come here. Was it worth the extra cost ? No,great staff and MB was excellent but better value and treatment can be had elsewhere.

40th birthdays

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Our group from Chicago just got back from celebrating our 40th birthdays at Live Aqua and we had a fantastic time. The pool and beach were top-notch. Special shoutout to our server Andres who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He was truly wonderful! Highly recommend this resort for a group celebration.
