Just got back from Cancun and I have to say we were all impressed with the resort, the pools, the beach and as MANY have said...the people who work at Sandos. I did not have a bad or unfriendly encounter with anyone. The guys at the pool...Enrique, Antonio, Miguel, and others were great. Liz and Ernesto kept everyone laughing, and all the employees in Bar One were a hoot. Food was mostly great but I kind of thought the buffet in Zango was a bit bland for Mexico and while the chef and the food were both amazing in the Japanese restaurant, it was VERY warm and uncomfortable. Weather was nearly perfect and the ocean views from just about anywhere at the pools was stunning. I've been to Mexico several times and all those trips were wonderful in some way...this trip to Cancun and Sandos was the best!

DISCLAIMER: My wife and I were here on an incredible deal through a marketing agency where we had to attend a 90 minute (which turned into 3 hour) meeting about their vacation club/timeshare so this may have played a role in our experience. We frequently travel to Cancun and have stayed at resorts run through Excellence, Dreams, Palace and others and, in our opinion, there are better resorts out there than Sandos Cancun. Before I go any further, I like to start with pros/cons for those who don’t want to read a long post. PROS: Location (In the heart of the hotel zone, crystal clear water, and minutes from the airport.) Food (The quality and selection was incredible and some of the best food we’ve ever had in Cancun.) Pools (3 different pools, never overcrowded, quieter.) Well stocked mini-bar (plenty of drinks, snacks, candy, etc.) Bars used top shelf liquor. CONS: Rooms (Limited ocean view, bad angles, leaking air conditioner, aged, double bed.) NO TURNDOWN SERVICE AT NIGHT!! (I mean, WHAT? Unheard of elsewhere.) Poolside bar service was hit or miss (even with tipping.) Want a poolside bed? Wake up at 6am. Customer service wasn’t what we’ve grown accustomed to. DO NOT GO ON A VACATION CLUB MEETING! (They are pushy, will keep you there all day, and won’t take no for an answer.) Gym/Spa is lackluster. ROOM: As previously stated, we were on a deal through a marketing agency where we had to attend a 90 minute info session on Sandos vacation club. This turned into a 3 hour marathon, but that’s beyond the point. Anyways, if they were looking to impress us, the room they put us in did not do the trick. We were put on the 2nd floor (first floor of rooms), next to the air conditioner system with limited ocean view. Turned out this was one of the few that has an “ocean view” because of the weird angle the hotel sits on. Besides that, our room had 2 double beds. As a couple, we were very disappointed not to have a king or even a queen. We asked to be moved but were repeatedly told they were 100% full. On the 2nd night our air conditioner started to leak and the plumbing was terrible. We had to call maintenance three times and very rarely had hot water. We were very, very disappointed about our room. FOOD: As mentioned, the food was incredible. We wish we stayed longer just for the food. Admittedly, we went to 2 dinners on several nights because it was so good. They have several restaurants with themes (Buffet changed daily, steakhouse, Italian, hibachi, and seaside grill.) We didn’t have a bad meal while there. BARS: There are plenty of places to get a drink but the service depended where you were. The bar named “Bar 2” was never open while there (6 days) and we didn’t know why. This pushed people to the bar in St. Tropics restaurant so you had dripping wet people coming in to get drinks while you were trying to eat. The pool service was hit or miss even if you tipped. This was disappointing especially since it was very hot and sunny most the days we were there. We usually ended up getting 2 drinks each time because we knew it would be awhile before the server came back. POOL: The outdoor space was great and even though it’s a small resort, it never felt overcrowded. They have 3 tiered, infinity pools which overlook the crystal clear ocean water. Music was often playing but never overbearing. There were some activities but never got in the way. The water was always very warm though which didn’t feel the greatest since you were already in the hot sun. Speaking of sun, there was very little shade and there’s not much you can do about it. There were umbrellas but they didn’t offer much shade. We ended up getting a poolside bed the last 2 days we were there but if you want one, then be prepared to wake up at 6 a.m. because they are claimed very fast. It’s worth your time though. OVERALL: We weren’t overly impressed with this resort, especially having been to others in the area. Don’t get me wrong, the resort offers great food, relaxation, beautiful beach, and more. But the room situation and lack of customer service really put us down. We were often told “we’re undergoing renovations” but we never saw any signs of those. I would recommend this resort, but with several cautions like be prepared not to have a great room and don’t set your expectations too high. I’d be interested in seeing what service looks like at other Sandos resorts but I’m just not sure we’re willing to roll the dice. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them!

What can I say the nightly entertainment in Bar One was simply amazing. Dana performed on Monday's and she would draw the crowds out. She made sure she interacted with everyone in the room. If you were shy you wouldn't be for long because she would be talking to you and he next minute you're in the middle of the dance floor either dancing or singing with her. Loved her Sandos did an excellent job when contracting her to perform. My husband gave her a hard time but he enjoyed himself very much.

This resort was nice. We have stayed at better. Service was great except for room service. Ordered cheese burgers and fries one evening and when we got the food there were no burgers just bun. When they finally brought corrected order they forgot fries. Other service was great. Bar tenders and restaurant staff were great! Beach is beautiful and pools were clean. Warm but clean.

We had such a great time at Sandos Cancun! The staff was absolutely amazing! Carmen was wonderful! She made sure we had everything we needed for our special day! Alex was our bartender/server. He was awesome! He made sure we enjoyed our time on the beach and was just great! I would definitely recommend Sandos for any event or vacation. Also, Itzel from Modern Destination Weddings was a complete life- saver. She took all of the stress away from planning our wedding.
