Our absolutely best Mexican vacation

Beautiful modern hotel but big let down
Rooms, cleanliness and drinks were amazing! The staff work really hard but you can tell tips make a difference. Where this hotel let's itself down is food, we went in low season and every meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner) was a big wait. Dinner was another level where you either queue for 15mins before 6pm to eat or prepare yourself for a wait over over 1 hour. One evening we waited 1hr 45mins - this isn't 5 star standard. Speaking to people everyone was finding it frustrating. You could book (though very hush hush) but only if you bought a bottle of wine! The reason I book all inclusive is so I don't need to worry about paying for things. Happy to tip staff as they do work really hard but personally I wouldn't return to this hotel.

Dated but overall good value for money
Secrets The Vine is centrally located in the hotel zone, not too close to the busy north end but not too far out that you feel remote. Atmosphere is good, although we found the lemongrass smell pumped through the ventilation system in the lobby area a little overpowering. Our room was of a decent size, clean and functional, albeit a little dated. Most rooms offer full or partial sea views (if viewed from the balcony). Housekeeping was good with a turndown service in the evenings. Our only criticism is that it was difficult getting seated in the speciality restaurants, waiting up to 2hrs in some instances. We think a prebooking system could easily be introduced through the hotel app, which would have better optimised our time in the evenings. Our best experience was at the Asian themed Dragons, the staff were the most attentive and the food exceeded our expectations. Note: Due to the small entrance area some excursions may not offer a hotel pickup, which meant travelling to another part of the hotel zone to join the tour.
