Secrets The Vine Cancun

We travelled as a couple to Secrets of the Vine in September 2026. On arrival there was no cold towel or welcome drink, we were taken to a lounge on 21st floor for check in and still no welcome drink was offered. The lounge was quite busy and very impersonal in our opinion although check in was quick. We were asked to sign a form to agree to not smoking on the premises which we found was overkill. Surely adults can adhere to simple rules without having to sign forms to agree to them? We had a junior suite on level 25 which was preferred club. The room was spacious and clean with plenty storage space and hanging room, there was an iron and ironing board as well as a hairdryer in the bathroom, a decent sized tv and a large balcony with views to the ocean on one side and the lagoon on the other which were spectacular. There was a mini bar with soft drinks, a few beers, some pringles and a pack of M&M’s. The mini bar was exceptionally poor in our opinion. We had issues with the safe a couple of times and the patio doors didn’t lock properly which we had to have security and maintenance attend to resolve. These issues were rectified straight away. There was also a mould like substance inside one of the lampshades. The restaurants:- Dragons - we ate here on the first night and left our food. I had the Mongolian beef and my husband had the chicken yakatori, the rice with my beef was congealed and lifted as one piece when I put my fork into it, the beef was overly seasoned and both dishes were tepid at best. Olio - service was slow, items ordered were often forgotten, the food was poor, and not overly warm when it arrived. We never had a good experience at Olio although we did go back a couple of times thinking it may have been an “off” day. The Bluewater Grill - the first time we went the food was excellent, the other twice we visited we weren’t impressed. We’d ordered a rare to medium steak and it came blue so back to the kitchen it went as did other meals for reheating. Nebbolio - This restaurant is lovely and the food was fine. Sea Salt Grill - All the food we had here for lunch was lovely. We never tried it for dinner. Market Cafe Mexican - The flank steak was cold and tough and the enchiladas had pockets of heat and pockets of cold. We left both dishes and never returned. Room Service - the food we had was congealed and cold. We did report this to our butler who informed us that the catering manager would come and visit us - we were still waiting for him to visit three days later and never seen him before we left. Barefoot Grill - we ate here one afternoon and the food was really lovely, it was mostly burgers, hot dogs, fries and some salad. Market Cafe Breakfast - The breakfast choices were numerous, plenty hot options as well as fruit, cereals, salads, breads etc. The Vine Cafe - this place was excellent with numerous choices for coffee, pastries and cold rolls. The staff were always amazing here. The Halftime bar - we visited here on Mexican Independence Day, we were the only two people there for a drink, the bartender ramped the sound up on the tvs and left to go downstairs, we didn’t finish our drinks as we couldn’t hear each other. This was exceptionally rude in our opinion. The pools - The two pools on the lower levels were nice enough, we saw staff cleaning them every morning and testing the water although there were some tiles missing and they looked scruffy in places. The preferred pool was ok although it would be difficult for anyone with disabilities to get in and out as there’s no steps, it’s pool ladders. We tended to use the preferred pool more as it was the quieter pool. The entertainment was a hit or a miss, we saw some absolutely excellent vocalists, pianists and sax players. Other nights the entertainment wasn’t to our taste but there was a varied mix to suit everyone. There was varied day entertainment, something to suit everyone and the entertainment staff were very enthusiastic. Upselling at this hotel is horrendous, they’re continually trying to sell lobster dinners, wine etc. If you want to reserve a table at any restaurants you have to buy a bottle of wine. We were told on check in no reservations were needed however, you do need to queue to get into a couple of the restaurants which we didn’t like. People were queueing at least 15 mins before the restaurants opened at 6pm due to the wait times later on. The day before Independence Day we were approached beside the pool asking if we wanted to book a table for the next evening for the celebration as there was limited tables. We declined as we thought this was another upsell. It was never made clear to us if this was an upsell or not. What we weren’t told was most of the other restaurants would be closed on the evening of Independence Day. The Independence Day celebrations were fabulous, there were lots of little stalls and games, the entertainment from what we managed to see from afar looked great, unfortunately we ended up with sandwiches from the coffee shop for dinner that night as the food in the restaurant that was open wasn’t nice. I still don’t understand why a hotel this size would host an event like this without enough space for everyone. Hotel maintenance - the last few days maintenance was taking place on our floor and the room was unuseable for a good few hours afterwards due to the strong smell of adhesives being used. The smell seeped into the room and was so overpowering it gave me a headache. The preferred lounge was ok, it was small and often overcrowded with people checking in. The snacks offered were ok and the cocktails and drinks were better than other bars as it was premium brands. One thing I didn’t understand about this hotel is you could have glasses of wine at the all inclusive bars but they wanted to charge you to take a bottle to your room (the same wine they were serving in the bars as part of the all inclusive package.) This just didn’t make sense to us. Overall, this hotel wasn’t what we expected, it was nice enough but certainly not to our standards or the standard that we expected. The continual upselling marred this holiday for us and the food stands were far below what we find acceptable, due to this we wouldn’t return to this resort.

Amazing time!! My wife and I have been here before. The service and food are top notch. Huge thanks to Salvadore, Alejandro and especially my boy Luis at the manatee bar. These guys are true professionals. The Dj’s and live music at the pool during the afternoons are the best addition compared to other trips here when it’s been too quiet at the pool. Thanks to Emmanuel on the entertainment team too. We’ll be back in the future for sure, this was a 10/10 vacation.

Our vacation at Secrets The Vine was relaxing and enjoyable. The staff are amazingly pleasing and supportive. All staff tried their best to support all our needs and made us feel at home. Entertainment staff learned your name and said hello even if you did not participate in any activities. Wine tasting daily was a novel idea and helped us understand wine choices. Buffet for breakfast was great. Food was fresh and we had a large assortment. My favorite is the Coffee Shop for a Double cappuccino every morning. So great! All other full service restaurants were great but especially liked Dragons (Asian) and Nebbiolo (Italian).

The hotel is getting a bit run down but the location is great and easy to get to from the airport. Our room was beautiful and very clean, and the housekeeping staff was wonderful. The Preferred club is not really worth the money, as the pool is pretty warm and the atmosphere around the pool is not inviting. The liquor being served in the Preferred club does not seem to be much better than the regular bars since Hyatt bought Secrets. The service is generally very good, and we had excellent service from Cesar at breakfast, and Juan, Arturo, and Norberto at the regular pool. The food (pizza and pasta) at Nebbiola was fantastic!

Secrets the vine is in a convenient location. The property is well maintained, has great pools and friendly staff. Plenty of dining and drink offerings.
