We stayed at the Villas del Palmar in Cancun from May 13th - May 20th. I am giving the resort 5 stars for many reasons: - the rooms are beautiful and spacious - hammock on the balcony - the restaurants have excellent food - the resort grounds were lovely and kept very clean - yoga at 9:00 am daily at the pier off the beach - washer and dryer in our one-bedroom suite, you don't have to pack a ton of clothes if you don't want to - not crowded at the time we went, pool chairs and lounge chairs on beach always available - kayaking, paddleboard, and snorkle equipment available without charge at the beach. Mario was very helpful with the equipment at the beach. PROS: - I loved eating at the buffet-style Caprichos restaurant the best. For breakfast, omelet station and guisada station and a great selection of fruits and pastries are offered every day. Also french toast, pancakes, fried bananas, bacon, sausages, cereal. I always had their green juice which is a delicious combination of cucumber, spinach, cactus, orange and pineapple. For dinner, an abundant variety of choices with a theme such as seafood night or pasta night. Everything was delicious. - The wait staff were friendly and helpful. - the rooms are SO spacious. - great yoga teacher in the class I took. To get to the yoga class, walk on the beach to the covered pier, it is not pool side. - peaceful and not crowded, appears to be good place for families with children. Saw lots of babies on our trip. We only saw a bit of "inappropriate" talk and behavior at the bar on the beach. So if you have children, don't hang out with them at the beach bar, lol. - entertainment at 9:00 pm at Capricho's on several evenings. We saw a pretty cool belly dancing show one night. - far from the hotel zone and downtown, so the location is great for relaxation and family vacations. For those who are seeking a nightlife, you will have to take a taxi downtown. CONS: - the beach is absolutely fine, but not pristine. Some areas with rocks, and there is seaweed and twigs near the shoreline. We had fun using our snorkels but there is not much too see, a few angel fish. - I am not sure what the point is of wearing the all-inclusive bracelet, have to sign a bill every time you eat! It did get annoying. TIPS: - there is a ferry to Isla Mujeres off the beach next to the hotel, but got advise not to use it. This ferry waits until they are full before they leave and it takes 40 minutes for the trip. Instead, go across the street to the bus stop and pay just 8 pesos to the Puerto Juarez ferry stop. The Ultramarine ferry at Puerto Juarez is fast and is 300 pesos roundtrip. - there is construction going on next to the hotel. Do NOT get a room in building 3, it will be noisy. We were in room 2208 and we did not hear anything. - We went to two tours, Chichen Itza and Tulum. I would recommend wearing your bathing suite with a cover up and good walking shoes. It was SO hot all day, wearing shorts was even uncomfortable. Both tours end with a swim in cenotes. There was very little free time on the tours, lots of talking by the tour guides. Bring your own natural bug repellant and biodegradable sunscreen. It is very expensive to buy on the tour bus. Also bring a large towel or something to coverup with on the tour bus as they run the AC pretty high and you will freeze. - The ATM at the store right by the hotel only dispenses dollars. There is a pretty hefty fee at the hotel to exchange dollars to pesos. So in hindsight, it would have been better to get more pesos from the ATM at the airport before our arrival.

We visited Villa del Palmar Cancun May 14-21. We are members at this group of resorts (VDP), and this was our first stay in Cancun. My husband and I take an annual vacation with our family, so we were traveling with our 21-year old daughter, our son and his wife, and our two grandchildren, ages 5 and 7. The resort is absolutely beautiful, very well-maintained, and the service is wonderful. In our past trips to other VDP resorts, we found that towels were rationed and pool chairs were frequently difficult to find. Not the case here. We particularly enjoyed having a pool butler, Otikio, who took care of us each day, finding and reserving chairs with umbrellas for our large group, as well as placing towels with "pillows" on our chairs. He truly treated us like family, and his special attention is one of the reasons that we'll return in the near future. His outstanding service and special attention helped make our trip truly memorable. With regard to food at the resort, I find it difficult to believe the bad reviews. Of all the VDP resorts, my family agreed that this one has the best restaurants and food by far. At dinner and breakfast, the managers would personally check on us, and we had a visit from the chef at the Japanese restaurant as well (food was outstanding!). The breakfast buffet is amazing, and the staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. Can't say enough about the food and service - friendly, professional, and prompt. The menus at the various restaurant are carefully crafted and the food is amazing. Ramos served us by the pool for several hours every day, and worked really hard to make sure we always had what we needed. He constantly was coming by to check on us. We travel a lot, and have been to the Caribbean and Mexico several times, as well as a number of other locations in the world. This resort experience ranks as one of the best we've had. We will definitely return!

Airport offered 4 tickets and a $300.00 US gift card. There employee arrived and paid for the taxi to take us to villa del Palomar. We did your with Patty who was excellent. To get gifts promised was hard. We did get tickets but they would not give us the gift card. The hotel called the sales person who brought us to the hotel and I spoke to him. He had all our paperwork and never returned it. He told me on the phone that he would leave it in lobby of hotel. I just checked again a day later and still no 300.00. My fault for listening to the lies. My advise is to avoid any sales people trying to get you a taxi from the airport. They all lie. If I ever get card it will be too late unless it is in US cash. If this is how hotel sales operate then I would have nothing to do with the time share. They lie. I knew better as we have been to Cancun about 20 times. Very bad memory of trip.

We had a great time at this hotel. They were very friendly, everything was top notch, very clean, excellent maid service, fully stocked fridge, the suite had everything we needed and then some. We each had a shower and my room had a hot tub and we had 3 bathrooms, 3 large screen tvs, 2 balconies, 2 kitchens (one was kitchenette), and 2 hammocks and we were lucky and got the 1/2 price sale for the room. The only bad thing would be that they will try to sell you a timeshare. However, since we weren't a married couple we couldn't have bought one anyway.

We had the pleasure of staying at this resort for 5 days in March and it was a truly enjoyable vacation experience. From our first encounter when we arrived to our last encounter when we checked out, the staff was very pleasant and professional and showed an interest in making our stay enjoyable. Our concierge, Zoe, was lovely and very helpful when I had a problem in the room. She got it resolve it quickly. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite which included a full kitchen. The room was nicely furnished and had plenty of space. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The room had 2 bathrooms and a washer/dryer which was convenient. All of the rooms have terraces with hammocks. The hammock was a really nice feature and we used it often both in the afternoon after a day at the pool and at night. There was always a nice breeze coming off the ocean at night and swinging in the hammock in the breeze was lovely. There are several restaurants on site and we tried most of them. The breakfast buffet at Caprichos had a good selection and the smoothie/juice bar was great. Our dinners at Hiroshi and La Casona STK really stood out for both the food and the service. Carmen (Hiroshi) and Mauricio (La Casona) went out of their way to make our dining experiences exceptional. I also used the spa and really enjoyed that experience as well. The spa has an outdoor "wet" area with heated whirlpools of varying temperatures. A staff member guides you through the different temperature pools before your treatments. It was a very pampering experience. I also liked that each treatment room was a separate "hut" so it was very private and quiet. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the beach area. The sand was quite rocky and the water was loaded with seaweed so we just used the pools every day which was fine. Unfortunately seaweed is an issue for many of the hotel beaches in this area so its not unique to this resort. I saw several negative reviews for this resort so I was a little concerned before our trip, however, we really enjoyed this vacation and would be happy to return to this resort.
