We just returned from 7 nights in Cancun area, 2 of those at Zoëtry. Pros: 1. Transportation arranged with no pickup or drop off fees. 2. Spacious, nicely decorated rooms. Firm comfortable mattress 3. Room service, quick and excellent service. We enjoyed this service in the morning having breakfast on our patio. 4. Extra services included like champagne sunset cruise and Temezcal are nice additions to your overall experience. 5. Great water pressure in the shower, this isn’t always the case at other resorts in the area we have stayed in the past. 6. Hippos staff was great- Miguel and Alejandro took excellent care of us. Cons: 1. Spotty service. First lunch experience was terrible. No exaggeration, we waited at least 20 minutes for water. 2. Be aware the menus don’t describe everything in the dishes. If you eat everything, not a problem. But there may be things hidden within the dish or at the forefront that aren’t mentioned on the menu. They are sure to ask about food allergies, which is good, but I learned to tell wait staff when ordering “no this or that in my dish”, even if it wasn’t listed on the description. In general, food was okay, nothing extraordinary. 3. Chairs and umbrellas by the pool are scarce. It’s pretty sad when they told us they were 70% occupancy and still have to fight tooth and nail to get a chair/umbrella by the one pool. 4. You have to sign up for everything or you won’t be included in the activities. We learned this the hard way thinking we could just show up to the tequila tasting. Nope- no admittance for you. For the price and build up we have heard from many, we expected more consistent service. We also didn’t expect the lone pool area to be so cut throat to get a spot.

I was in the hospitality and travel business for years and have traveled all over the world for both work and pleasure. My top requirements, regardless of the number of stars, are service and cleanliness. Zoetry Paraiso de La Bonita is over the top in both categories. I have never met a finer staff: charming, energized, and, as quick as possible, given the limitations in the tropic. I can't possible name the best. They were all superb. However, I will point out that the influence of Caesar and Manny and the manager of the fine restaurant set a tone of excellence for the entire staff. The rooms are gorgeous, large and lovely. Truly, we could have stayed on the terrace and read, only leaving to eat, and the trip would have been excellent! We did enjoy the beach, but preferred to stay nearer to our suite, Ankhar, so we did not have a choice of beach lounges. However, we did find a curtained lounge for two that was even better because it did provide some shade. We LOVED the spa pool, steam and sauna. Serene. The treatments are - from what we heard - excellent, but they are too pricey. We get great treatments at home for less than half their prices. The friend with whom I traveled is a chef, and we were both blown away by the quality of the food in all of the restaurants. The resort is spotless. I could go on and on, however, it boils down to the fact that it is one of the best places I have ever stayed. There is Ritz Carleton level service without any pretention or interference with complete relaxation and peace. No pressure. Whatever you want, just ask. I generally don't go to the same place twice for pleasure, except for Cal-a-Vie, where I go every year, but I will definitely return to Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, have already recommended it to all my friends and network, and will bring a bunch with me next year. Thank you so much. Service is a spiritual matter in my mind, and you have a cathedral going on!

So we came to Zoëtry with high hopes and high expectations given the price... and we have happy with a lot- but disappointed and perplexed by more.. first- let me start with some facts that I would have liked to know before I booked: - plunge Pools- they are not heated and about 2ft deep- not really functional - but nice to look at! - sunset cruise- this is included in your rate- does not sail daily! So ensure you plan in advance if you are staying here under 6 days!! Cruise is NOT sunset and lasts 50 minutes- amazing crew and service-(cheap champagne given) takes you down the coastline for 25 minutes and you can see other resorts then turns around and takes you back 430pm- 530pm - day trip to Isle Mujeres- this was included in rate and something I was really looking forward to- only runs Wednesday and Fridays 9a departure with 4pm return... we did not get to partake since we arrived on Friday and leave on Wednesday.... - sheets- very old and very very rough- I stayed at a motel 6 when I was in college- those sheets were as rough.... I believe these sheets were nice many years ago- but they are so old and therefore have gotten very rough... - check in time- our suite was ready at 1130am when we arrived- very nice! - transportation- round trip private transportation is included in room rate! This is awesome, - laundry- also included in your rate- takes about a day and a half to get back... nice service. - alcohol- wines are very limited- cabernet and merlot only for red wines at dinner- and only one of each available at dinner for free- must purchase a bottle of wine if you want different- can be pricey! Grey goose seems to be 2/3 vodka and 1/3 water in the bottles that they pour at bars- still good- just know it is watered down... We were upgraded to the a pool suite- which is the ground floor unit with private plunge pool- amazing views- beautiful suite- only issue are the rough sheets... bed is firm- we like that- however some may not.....Suites are large and have the hacienda feel- don’t expect Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton Luxury- that’s not what this place is about... Pool- the pool area is very nice- must get up early to get a lounger as people save them with books and bags by 9am... pool water is about 80- no warm jacuzzi. Cooler then we like but but bad.... Restaurants- La Canoe is theAAA. 4 Diamond restaurant- interesting- good enough food- menu doesn’t change- so after eating here twice- we were good on not going back.... service is very spotty and it is crazy and this will sound petty- but they have canned lighting - which is great so the restaurant can dim to give an elegant feel for dinner service- the issue is this restaurant keeps the 100watt bulbs on at full blast the entire time- there are about 75 lights- it was crazy bright inside, we had to ask them 3 times to dim the lights- they thought we were crazy for asking that- here lays the problem- the staff and management have never been trained to operate at a luxury hotel level.... you would never see a fine dining restaurant at a Rosewood, Ritz or Four Seasons have lighting like that... Service- I get that it is Mexico and we are supposed to have a relaxed vibe going on- but the service is truly lacking here- example- every time you ask for something- you get it when the server feels like bringing it to you...Your burger and fries arrive- you want katsup for your fries- takes 10 minutes to get- your fries are either eaten or cold by the time it gets there- and this happens at every meal! More coffee- let’s clear off all the dirty dishes at other tables first, talk to other customers then come back 7 minutes later to pour coffee- I would like bread to go with my salad- it’s brought between main course and dessert.... every meal.. every day- all servers.... this is how it goes here at Zoëtry.... and we tipped our servers- so it wasn’t due to not trying to get better service- again, every He was ice and friendly- just don’t understand that some things are time sensitive when requested.... Suites are beautiful and service is friendly- just be prepared to wait... or remind the servers to bring you what your asked....great property for under $500 a night- but when the price is closer to $1000 a night- the services needs to be kicked up a notch...

We knew that Zoetry bills itself to be a quiet and relaxing luxury resort, before we came, so that guests will have as few outside distractions as possible. This concept took us a few days to adjust to before we could start to enjoy it. If you are looking for more action than this, go to one of the other Amresorts/UVC resort lines like Secrets, Breathless, or Dreams. With that said, the degree of service here is top shelf all the way and very personal. By the time you leave, you will know the wonderful staff and they will know you. We have left many new friends and wish them all the best! The restaurants are very good with great food but do not have the variety of food which other Amresorts/UVC resorts have. For us, we would have preferred a more varied selection. They do offer their "Speciality Dinning" options beyond their all-inclusive dining but these dinners cost anywhere from $300 to $400 per couple per dinner extra. We are UVC members and used two of our VIP certificates to reserve a room. We hoped that we would receive at least a one or two level room upgrade upon check-in from our existing one bedroom double bed terrace reservation. No luck with that because they were full with no availability. Overall, if you are looking for a luxury resort that peace and relaxation is what you need, this definitely is the place and we would very highly recommend Zoetry. For us however, we will go to Secrets next time and wait to come back to Zoetry when we are a little more older.

The ideal beach getaway probably varies from person to person. If you choose this property, make sure that it matches your vision. Consider the key features that you'd want in a beach hotel. Would you want a great view, service, food, activities, lounge chairs, or just what? Zoetry's strengths are the food, the room sizes, and staff politeness. The weaknesses are the beach quality and the chairs, and perhaps some odd inefficiency in service. We've rarely encountered such excellent food. The menus are nicely done, and the portion sizes are just right. Top marks are deserved. Likewise, the property comes with attractive grounds and room layout, so you won't feel cramped. If you just want to hang out in the room and go to meals, you'll be in heaven. Also, the grounds come with peacocks and tropical birds which we Americans would call parrots, although a purist would know the right name for them. If you want to sit on the beach under a palapa hut, however, forget about it. You won't find any. At all. Study the beach photos very carefully. There are none. You'll see some 2-person mattress structures, but those force you into the same posture as your partner, and they don't come with a thatched hut. You'll also see some individual lounge chairs on the beach, but they aren't especially comfortable, and again, they lack any huts. So if you want shade, you've got a problem. There are not enough umbrellas. Not even close. This is odd, because umbrellas or huts cannot cost that much. So be ready to get up at an unreasonably early hour in order to "beat the crowd" ... You know, rush out to a good spot, lay out a towel on your territory, toss a book and some magazines on top to warn others away. And wait, there's more. No matter where you end up, the sun will move and leave you exposed again in due course. Now if you just want sun and are exceedingly easygoing about chair design, great. You will be happy. If you prefer shade, you're gonna have to fight for it. Personally, I consider this scene a deal-breaker. We stayed at a Zoetry in Cabo a few years ago (loved it!) and never had lounge chair competition. This is different. The beach is not especially lovely. Lots of seaweed. You can do better. I am not sure that a property should've been put here. But that is probably a matter of personal taste, and you may have a different opinion. There are plenty of personnel on staff. I am not so sure about how efficiently they are used, as service tended to be remarkably slow. But to be fair, the employees are very courteous and work very hard. You will be treated very kindly. This, in fact, illustrates one of the ambiguities about the place. Staff will cheerfully go search for an umbrella for you if you ask. There might not be one available, but they will absolutely go look, and if they find one, they will lug it a long distance to your side. But why make employees work so hard relocating a scarce supply? Just add more. We did a tequila tasting one evening. It was a lot of fun. The wine tasting was filled, so we missed that, and we also missed one of the late afternoon sailing excursions. The gym was ok, in that it is modern but awfully compact. All in all, we absolutely loved the food and the layout. But the deficiencies in the beach and lounge chair scene left me stressed every day at having to compete for a place. Again, study the photos with a keen eye. You might love it. You might not.
