We decided to book our honeymoon with Zoetry near Cancun. Having been to a few Dreams resorts and loved the brand...Zoetry was billed as their top brand, we were super excited. This is an honest review of Zoetry in Riviera Maya. Disclaimer: This is a long post, but may impact your decision on booking your vacation with Zoetry. Let’s start with their amazing food- 4 were all great, the service provided by their staff almost matches the good food, we also had the option to book reservation to another hotel for dinner (pending availability), which is a nice touch if you like a change of scenery. The service can be slow, but I see that more as a management issue, our servers did the best they could. Staff- I want to give a special shout out to the service/floor staff (not to be confused with management), most of them were simply phenomenal. Each person took great care in making sure that we had a great experience. From the driver to the grounds keeper, the maid services to servers from each restaurant, they took great care in making sure we have all we need daily- not to mention they do it with a sincere smile on their faces. Thank you. Room and Architecture- the rooms are large, rustic ancient design adds a boutique flavor to the hotel. The bed was really comfortable, it’s a high bed but they offer stools in case you need help getting on the bed. Now, the bad stuff. The second day after checking into our Romance Ocean View suite, we encountered a mouse running across the room around 10pm. Our room was located on the ground floor surrounded by plants, so I understand that it can happen. What surprised me was how the management handle the situation onwards. We spend some time trying to track down the mouse, finally gave up and call the front desk. We explained what happened to the manager on duty, and they asked if they could send someone to our room to check, but didn’t offer a room change. So I took the initiative to ask for a room change over the phone, but was greeted with a tone of annoyance like he didn’t believe us. Waited a few more minutes over the phone and they finally said that we can move two doors down to the exact same room. He indicated that a staff/night-time manager will come check out the room and bring the key to the other suite. It took about 20 minutes and was close to 11pm when the door knocked, I opened the door – and to my surprise, there were three guys, one of whom greeted me with “you said there is a mouse right? You Chinese? Japanese?” He was followed by two other men with a broomstick. I was a bit taken back by his lack of professionalism shown at such late hours. Then when my husband walked out from the bathroom, his attitude changed and greeted him with “Sir” and demonstrated more respect. I was offended, what does my gender and race have to do with a mouse being in our room? What if I had been single, would they have just brush me off? What were they going to do with a broomstick at midnight, killed the mouse in front of us? For the next hour, we helped them look around for the mouse, with them questioning if we really saw a mouse. It’s close to 1am and we just wanted some sleep. The whole thing was irritating and highly disappointing. I guess I expected a lot more from this hotel that claims to be competing with the Ritz. Finally, when we arrive in the other room at 2am, we were shock to see the amount of amenities this room had versus what we had received in our old room. It was truly a slap in the face since we were supposed to have the same type of room with the same amenities. I booked the hotel under my name, I can’t help but to wonder, had my husband booked the hotel, would we have receive better service? The next day, we request to see the hotel manager, which we were told that she was on vacation. We saw the chief concierge Rafael instead to discuss our experiences, he said that he would look into it. We waited for an answer all day, and finally track him down to see if something could be done. When we finally did track him down, he provide a free couples massage of 25 minutes, plus a shopping tour in Playa del Carmen. Frankly, I didn’t care about the “free stuff”, (which in of itself was a joke) but I wanted to see if our experience could warrant a sincere apology. The same evening, we saw the hotel manager walking around the restaurant. It was infuriating. To make matters worse, we accepted the trip to Playa del Carmen but I explicitly said that we didn’t want to go on a shopping tour because I knew it was a tourist trap, he assured us that a taxi will take us where we want to go. So we were under the impression that we had our own taxi for 3 hours, but I guess he didn’t understand me. All we wanted was a paid round trip taxi ride to Playa del Carmen. After hopping into a taxi, we were bought to a Jewelry store who partners with the hotel, learning shortly after that the Jewelry store had paid for taxi, so it was “free” for the hotel. I was furious, after I had explained repeatedly that this was not what we wanted before we left, it still happened. So apparently, while the tour does go to Playa del Carmen, it’s a designated group tour that requires us to wait for the other 12 people, get into a small van that will drop us off at another shopping center in playa, the tour was set to ends at 3:15pm. I was disappointed, angry and flat out done with this trip. We had booked a fishing trip at 2:00pm through Rafael earlier, so I was just completely shocked at the lack of communication, allowing us to think that this was a free trip to Playa. We told the store to get on the phone with Rafael and to bring us back to the hotel immediately as we were running short on time for our fishing trip. In fairness to Rafael, he did try, but his time management skill needs some serious improvement or he just need more help. I can only hope that this was an honest mistake and not a malicious one. I will say that staying at Zoetry hasn’t been relaxing, we felt like we were dealing with one issue after the next, and I’m sad that our honey was dampened by this experience. We will never stay here again!

Stayed at this resort for 9 days, and chose it because it was billed as an "ultra-luxurious health & wellness" resort. It was a nice piece of land and the rooms were a good size. But the food and service were terrible. Food was either undercooked or overcooked, and very slow to arrive. Service was also very slow or non-existent - we had to ask &/or phone many times for coffee, water, room service, housekeeping service, towels, etc. The beach was poorly maintained - full of seagrass and the seagrass full of garbage. Because there was a hedge in front of the resort, we had to stand on our tiptoes to see the ocean. There was a beautiful and expensive spa, and it was poorly maintained - the indoor jacuzzi was full of foam and the foam was full of dirt! I showed the girl who worked there and she was disgusted.

Scratchy sheets. You ok with that? This place is a has been wannabe. So sorry bout that. But I am paying big money for Mexico???? Really, and I am on nubby Sheets? Wow. Who can b leave that? And other sorts of two star things. It is never a about the staff. God, I hate places that bill themselves as a five and are really a three. Whatever.

We just returned from 7 nights in Cancun area, 2 of those at Zoëtry. Pros: 1. Transportation arranged with no pickup or drop off fees. 2. Spacious, nicely decorated rooms. Firm comfortable mattress 3. Room service, quick and excellent service. We enjoyed this service in the morning having breakfast on our patio. 4. Extra services included like champagne sunset cruise and Temezcal are nice additions to your overall experience. 5. Great water pressure in the shower, this isn’t always the case at other resorts in the area we have stayed in the past. 6. Hippos staff was great- Miguel and Alejandro took excellent care of us. Cons: 1. Spotty service. First lunch experience was terrible. No exaggeration, we waited at least 20 minutes for water. 2. Be aware the menus don’t describe everything in the dishes. If you eat everything, not a problem. But there may be things hidden within the dish or at the forefront that aren’t mentioned on the menu. They are sure to ask about food allergies, which is good, but I learned to tell wait staff when ordering “no this or that in my dish”, even if it wasn’t listed on the description. In general, food was okay, nothing extraordinary. 3. Chairs and umbrellas by the pool are scarce. It’s pretty sad when they told us they were 70% occupancy and still have to fight tooth and nail to get a chair/umbrella by the one pool. 4. You have to sign up for everything or you won’t be included in the activities. We learned this the hard way thinking we could just show up to the tequila tasting. Nope- no admittance for you. For the price and build up we have heard from many, we expected more consistent service. We also didn’t expect the lone pool area to be so cut throat to get a spot.

I was in the hospitality and travel business for years and have traveled all over the world for both work and pleasure. My top requirements, regardless of the number of stars, are service and cleanliness. Zoetry Paraiso de La Bonita is over the top in both categories. I have never met a finer staff: charming, energized, and, as quick as possible, given the limitations in the tropic. I can't possible name the best. They were all superb. However, I will point out that the influence of Caesar and Manny and the manager of the fine restaurant set a tone of excellence for the entire staff. The rooms are gorgeous, large and lovely. Truly, we could have stayed on the terrace and read, only leaving to eat, and the trip would have been excellent! We did enjoy the beach, but preferred to stay nearer to our suite, Ankhar, so we did not have a choice of beach lounges. However, we did find a curtained lounge for two that was even better because it did provide some shade. We LOVED the spa pool, steam and sauna. Serene. The treatments are - from what we heard - excellent, but they are too pricey. We get great treatments at home for less than half their prices. The friend with whom I traveled is a chef, and we were both blown away by the quality of the food in all of the restaurants. The resort is spotless. I could go on and on, however, it boils down to the fact that it is one of the best places I have ever stayed. There is Ritz Carleton level service without any pretention or interference with complete relaxation and peace. No pressure. Whatever you want, just ask. I generally don't go to the same place twice for pleasure, except for Cal-a-Vie, where I go every year, but I will definitely return to Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, have already recommended it to all my friends and network, and will bring a bunch with me next year. Thank you so much. Service is a spiritual matter in my mind, and you have a cathedral going on!
