This may be long... but if you want an honest review keep reading Me and my husband stayed at Zoetry for our 1 year anniversary for 1 week. Starting from the day we arrived we were picked up at the airport by the transportation the hotel offers. Our driver was very nice he had cold damp towels for us right when we got in the car. He even pulled out two glasses and champagne right before we took off to the hotel. When getting to the hotel we were greeted with their special drink of the day and everyone was so friendly. Basically first impression I thought was wow they really spoil you here and they take care of you. The hotel "lobby" which is outdoors, is very nice with beautiful views of the ocean. We got to the hotel around 2pm so our room wasn't ready so we ate lunch. Right after eating, our room was ready so we were able to sleep after along trip there. Now let me get into details: Our room: We stayed in the suite with a private plunge pool(Martinica was our room name). Our room was located in the first set of rooms closest to the main pool area which was nice since we didn't have to walk too far. The room itself is nice. It's not some modern beauty but it showcases the culture in certain aspects and it has lots of character. The bed was pretty comfortable if you like a little more firm which I do. The bathroom was pretty cool it had a stand up shower with an awesome high pressure shower head. It also had a hot tub and 2 separate sinks. The bathroom was large which I love. Our view was beautiful. Fully stocked mini bar and welcome bottle of tequila and champagne. Ok so everything was great but the private plunge pool... so I booked this type of room specifically for this feature. We stayed in a resort in the Dominican Republic with a private plunge pool and I loved it because it was private and big enough to actually swim around and deep enough that when I stood up it came up to my chest. Well the private plunge pool at Zoetry was the exact opposite. It was a large bathtub literally. It's an above ground pool. When I stood up it was to my lower calf. It wasn't private either. So that was a big disappointment but I got over it since I did read other reviews stating that so I took the chance. Lastly the wifi hardly ever worked in our room which kinda sucked. The hotel grounds and food: The hotel was kept clean at all times while we were there. The walkways, the bathrooms, the pool, the restaurants, pretty much everything were all clean. The beach did have slot of seaweed which I did not like but the hotel can only control it so much. There is a lot of wildlife. There are lots of birds especially parrots that the ground keeper moves them around to different spots (they don't fly). A lot of iguanas and a handful of peacocks. I enjoyed all the wildlife and being able to get so close to them. The birds can get very loud so I know for some people it would bother them. Me and my husband didn't mind. There is 3 restaurants at the hotel. For breakfast there is only 1, for lunch there is 2 options and for dinner there is usually all 3. I will say our first dinner at Kaax was prime rib dinner night and it was great. The meat was cooked perfectly medium and had great taste. We had dinner at Canoa which is there fancier dinner which was also great. The downfall me and my husband faced was we got bored of the food quite quickly. We tried to always get different things but after a few days your back to eating the same stuff. Breakfast menu was always the same and only at one place so that become boring after day 3. We are big foodies so we get our money's worth from food more so than from alcohol. The fish dishes were always good and the fajitas at beach grill were great. Order nachos if you go they aren't on the menu but they will make them for you :) which leads me to... The staff and entertainment: The staff for the most part were all great. At the restaurants they were very polite and nice. They always had a smile. They accommodate you the best they can. I was excited to meet all the chefs since again I am a foodie who loves to also cook. All the chefs were very friendly and are more then will to make you something a little different if you ask them to. I had the great pleasure to cook with two of them in the kitchen!! So one of the activities they offer are cooking classes. Take them, they are great! The entertainment manager ( Victor, I hope that's right) hosts them along with chef Andrés. Who I loved! Anyway I wanted to learn to make paella and the day they taught that class I would be gone so they did a private class for me and my husband. It was so sweet of them. The Paella was amazing. One suggestion if victor is reading this, make the classes more hands ok not so much just demonstrations. Other than that it's great. So overall staff is attentive and nice. The one little downfall we did notice was as the days went by we felt the staff wasn't as nice and accommodating as the first day we showed up. It was almost like, ok we know you we don't need to impress you anymore. They were still friendly but overall service went down a bit as the days went by. Overall me and my husband enjoyed our stay. We had some moments like the personal cooking class which we will cherish. We would go again if we got a good deal and not get the upgrades suite with pool since it's not worth the extra money. We would try to do more excursions and eat out at the local city. I would like to personally thank Chef Andres and the other Chef that taught me to make Paella, I'm sorry I forgot his name, and the entertainment manager you guys were the best! Ok I can say more about the hotel but I am tired of typing I think this will give everyone a pretty good idea of the resort

Please do your homework before you go!!!!!! The resort was really beautiful. It is a small resort, with approx 100 rooms. This is what we prefer. There are only 3-4 restaurants on the property (they are open on a rotation schedule). This is more than enough restaurants to handle the number of guests. We never had to wait more than a few minutes (maybe 10, at the most) to get a table. The pool is fabulous!!!!! I love the fact that you can have sun, or shade, whenever you like... just ask one of the staff for shade, if you want it. There is also a wonderful open air restaurant near the middle of the pool. They constantly serve drinks and appetizers from there, all day. The beach is small, but certainly sufficient for the number of guests. The catamaran looked to be a fun thing to do, but we were only there for 5 nights and the weather wasn't perfect for the night we could have gone. Be sure to book your trip as soon as you get to the resort, the spots for the catamaran fill quickly!!! The missed opportunity was just another disappointment on this trip. This is why you do your homework: We paid for upgraded outdoor shower and the private pool. Please, please do NOT pay for this upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The outdoor shower is under the walkway of the unit above you. It is NOT private at all!!!!!!! The "private" pool is on the patio, which is accessible to the public grounds of the resort. It is NOT private! It should be termed "exclusive" as you are the only guests to use it, but you will be seen by absolutely anyone walking by (guests, staff, etc.). The resort also allows small children. I sincerely do NOT mean that in a rude way, but we were certainly looking forward to a vacation of adult only activities, and not listening to children splash in the pool, calling for their mom to watch every single jump into the pool. It would be a resort I would want to return to, if the upgrades were private, as they are advertised and it is was an adult only resort. As it is, we will never return, because is just another nice resort. There is nothing special to separate it from the other really nice resorts in the area.

The grounds are lovely and so are the views but the rooms are tired and so are the amenities. We love secrets resorts and Zoetry was a promise of the best of what they have to offer. Upon arrival our room had no air conditioning and we were put into a room temporarily, that eventually was our room. Yet it was a forgotten room, without replenishing of in room services such as coffee, room service menu, or hair dryer. Empty glasses were never picked up outside our room the whole three days we were there. There are limited food choices. Only three restaurants (one being a pool side grill) and sections of the outside restaurants closed for weddings. Why would I spend this much money to not have access to one of only two restaurants. There is also no real beach to walk on or to swim in. Also only one pool. So if a wild wedding party isn't your idea of wellness and top notch luxury then this resort is not for you.

I have nothing negative to say about this place. Staff standouts, Enrique our bellman, Bernice, Alfonso, Guadalupe & Esmeralda at the spa, Frederico and Fernado- pool bar and our favorite waiter Julien from Canoa. THX for a beautiful week!!!

We were here to quietly celebrate Our 30th wedding anniversary. We have traveled to many resorts in our 30 years. Our review is a bit long, but very upfront and honest plus its spot on to what we experienced. I wished that more people would be honest to the details in their reviews. Although we liked the small boutique resort,  there were a few disappointments that I feel need to be expressed.   Zoetry advertises that they are a small,  adults only quite boutique resort. We found this to be totally untrue.  It seems that Zoetry is geared more towards catering to weddings, which also allows children of all ages. Our 8 day stay consisted of a total of 3 weddings,  each with little children and very rowdy,  more like spring break, young adults. This is not the Zoetry that we were expecting.  As they advertise and portray they are a wellness,  quaint, quiet, adults only resort. Not True! There is a faint smell of sewage throughout the resort,  especially the lower half from the disheveled tennis courts on down. Our room in particular had a constant stench. As we complained a few times and asked to be moved, each time just fell on deaf ears.  The rooms are nice, well stocked refrigerator and attention to the cleanliness is fantastic. The resort does allow smokers to smoke freely around the pool and throughout the outdoor eating areas. There is not a designated area for smokers, which is a bit disheartening being a wellness resort. On two different occasions, one of the two main restaurants were closed for what they called "maintenance". This again was an inconvenience especially with the large wedding parties taking over the opened restaurant. The resort actually tried to stick to their dress code after inconveniencing us. Sorry my husband was dressed beautifully, so I definitely wasn't having that. After expressing this, we were seated. The spa is nice, however we had a couples message and facial scheduled upon arrival and was told it would cost 459.00 as advertised in the brochures. Just before we started, we were informed that it was actually 918.00 so unfortunately we canceled.   Lucia was able to extend a 25% discount for two 50 minute massages that was nice for $515.00 The concierge who went over our perks with us sighed us up for what he said was a tour of their sister resort Secrets.  Only to find out when we were there that it was a membership/time share sales pitch.  Once at the resort,  we realized this and politely  declined.  It was just another big inconvenience anda waste of half our day.  Zoetry did however cover the taxi ride to and from Playa Del Carmen. Which was a lot of fun. We enjoyed a delicious private dinner in the wine cellar. However, be aware that the cost is 200pp and a bottle of wine is extra. It is not a wine pairing as advertised The food is subpar to delicious depending on what you order. Fish dishes are the best, meat dishes left a bit to be desired. There is a charter boat that will transport you to and from a beautiful Island. Various activities are available if one wants something to do other than sit, drink and eat by the pool. The beach is nice, a TON of seaweed is at the shoreline daily. It's a bit difficult to swim without coming out of the water covered in seaweed. However, we did understand that this is mother nature and out of the resorts hands. They did run a gas fueled tractor back and forth during the day every morning into the afternoon. A bit smelly and quite loud. As I stated, overall we did have an enjoyable time, especially our first 3 days before the weddings arrived. The service and attention to detail is impeccable.  However, these things made it so we will think twice before returning to Zoetry in Maya Riveria
