Pros: - Great Restaurants (Windows, Oceana, Coco Cafe, Sky Bar) - The restaurants at their sister resort Sunscape Sabor were better, just a walk away. - Do take the rooms which have hammocks and a slide that goes directly to the pool. - Pier was great for Instagram worthy pictures - Lots of fishes near the Pier where you can Snorkel - The Green juice for breakfast is a must - Swim up bar in the pool was great Cons: - Limited Room Service menu (They take a lot of time to deliver, 40 mins minimum for every order) - Insects and bugs found in the bedding and crawling on the floor. - Room lights were not working. - Air conditioning was not so good. - The imnteriors are old. Doesn't feel like a premium place. - Pool was not so clean. Big insects swimming in the water. - No coconuts / pineapples at the beach every day. - No Indian food at restaurants. - No ferry pickup / drop facility provided by the hotel. - Terms & Conditions for Hotel credits was not disclosed prior to Check-In.

We are near the end of our stay at Secrets Aura, Cozumel, Mexico. We had a good, but not great vacation. Some of it was not the fault of Secrets (e.g. bad weather) but some of it was (e.g. facilities not maintained to optimal condition). Check-in went smoothly, but the restroom off of the main lobby (and some others around the property) were not especially clean and sanitary. We found loose seats, dirty seats, round seats on elongated bowls; that sort of thing. I think it is important for a hotel, especially off of the main lobby to provide a nice neat and sanitary toilet facility. Our room is an economy "pool view junior suite" (or something like that). We are a bit of a walk from the beach and most restaurants, but that is not a problem for us. It is what we chose in exchange for a good price and the grounds are very pleasant for walking, once you find your way around. The bed (king) is VERY soft; not easy to sit on the edge. It feels like there is a mattress topper on it to extend its life. The springs appear to be “shot” and it is a bit lumpy. The bathroom is spacious and nice, but there is no tub (not a problem for us). The shower is large, but only partially enclosed on one side by a glass wall. It does NOT do a good job of keeping water off of the bathroom floor. The wall is not long enough, and there are leaks where the glass wall joins the shower "wet wall", so the floor is always flooded when someone takes a shower; no matter how carefully. The main room is large and well appointed; TV, fridge, coffee maker, good internet connection, good lighting and climate control, nice balcony (although there is no view through the palm trees). The maid service has been very friendly and responsive to our requests, but they did not always provide sufficient towels, wash cloths, bath mats and tissue without needing further prompts. The food service facilities were similarly "good" but not "great" (or even VERY good, in most cases). There was something unusual in the taste of many of the tropical drinks that both of us noticed. They seemed to have an after taste of artificial sweetener that was not pleasant. I could not enjoy my favorite "pina colada" and stuck mostly with coke or other less exotic drinks. Another odd feature was that the drink never came with a straw, and the table setting almost never came with a spoon. It was like they have an aversion to amenities that start with "s". (Odder still for a resort whose name starts with"S"). A straw is a very handy thing to have in a drink. It allows continuous stirring and is more sanitary than drinking from the rim. The hotel deserves big credit for their “no reservations” policy in the restaurants. At peak hours there was occasionally a wait, but it did not deter at all from the quality of our stay. They also deserve big credit for the towel and chair reservation policy (if not the practice) where chairs cannot be reserved beyond 30 minutes if left unattended. This has been a major annoyance at other resorts. The free availability of fresh towels was also a pleasure (once I figured out that they were inside the box, if not displayed prominently on top). We booked a SCUBA trip with Dive House, even before our arrival, for the first full day of our stay. It was well that we did because on the third day and all days after, the harbor was closed due to rough weather. It was a major disappointment for us, but hard to blame anyone for it. We had seen the weather forecast before our arrival, so we knew it might turn bad later in our stay. It is hard to know what to expect when you book months in advance, but this second week in January might be more prone to bad weather than other times of the year. Dive House was VERY easy to work with and very professional. Contrary to what we read in other reviews, we had a small group on our 2-tank 1:00 PM dive. In fact, we would have had just two of us on the dive, and not need a special dive master (because of our limited certification), if two other divers had not signed up on the day of the dive. The diving was quite excellent, even with our 40 ft maximum depth (more or less) limitation. Dive House may not have been the cheapest option, but they are convenient, easy to work with and we felt very safe on the dive. One last item on the sales pitch- We sat through the AMResorts breakfast sales pitch for their “travel club” (emphatically not a “time share”). It was promoted as a 1.5 hour presentation with no obligation and it saved us $150 toward the diving trip. But make no mistake, it is a pressure sales pitch and we needed to be very firm to get out in about 2 hours. They were not “unpleasant” but they are skilled sales people and can dominate the interaction if you let them. We enjoyed our stay. The staff was attentive, friendly and polite. We tipped regularly, but only a dollar or two here and there. For the price it was a good deal; ...but this is not Sandals, or even RIU Palace (our other favorite “all inclusives”) so we do not evaluate it according to those standards.

Very tired, outdated resort in need of a major update in the area we had our room. Not close to a 5 star, 3.5-4 at best. The evening meals were great at the a la cartes' but the food at buffets was not, lukewarm at best. No 24 hr bar or food (24 hr room service for food) unless you go to Sunscapes resort next door. We will not return.

First off - weather was not good - no ones fault - but high winds closed the marina so we only dove 2 days of five booked with private dive company Scuba Tony (excellent). Secrets - first impression was underwhelming - the curb appeal is “not fancy” but - people friendly - good service. We have been to Cozumel before so we know how to bypass the timeshare folks at airport and we choose not to get the VIP presentation/coupons/vacation club sales pitch.- something lots of people complain about. We had a pool view junior suite which I assume is the lower end of offerings- but - comfortable bed - clean - excellent wifi- A/C. Had issue with toilet - float would stick and keep running - used resort app to report it - was fixed within hours! Only other complaint was hot water in shower is “Iffy” depending on time of day. Food - as good as we have ever experienced at the Bordeax restaurant- al a carte and you can go every night. Where else can you go to an all inclusive and get Filet Mignon or rack of lamb every night! Buffet breakfast was good as well. Having 3 al a carte restaurants and a sushi bar with no limits and no reservations is nice. If you eat early I.e.6 pm you won’t have to wait - later may lead to a line up. This is a small resort 238 people - lots of place to sunbathe - long beach - seating by pools - everything’s clean and well groomed. All-in-all - a good experience. We would definitely stay here again.
