First the good – the beach, it’s a great beach. The staff are also good overall, with some great and others not interested at all. Everything else is varying shades of OK, not so good, or bad. We stayed in the Preferred area, which is only good if you‘re there to smoke, drink, and listen to loud bad music on someone else’s boom-box. That’s a pretty accurate description of the pool in the preferred area. We wound up using other pools in the complex, which were much more laid back. The rooms in the preferred section are not much better than in other sections, at least ours wasn’t. We paid for the most expensive ocean front suite in the preferred section, and the interior was tired and breaking down. The shower drain had been attempted to be fixed by breaking floor tiles around it, and it still backed up every time it was used. The wall between the shower and the commode leaked, and so the water from the clogged drain ran under the wall into the commode area. Some of the electrical outlets and lights in the bedroom didn’t work, and the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine right over the bed. It cooled OK though. The food in the restaurants was mixed, with the two best ones being the Bordeaux (best by far) and the Patio next door at Sunscapes. Service at the restaurants was hit and miss, with those two places again coming in at 1st and 2nd. The service at The Market Café was OK, the service at Windows was not.

We stayed in the Preferred Section, which includes a private beach with palpas, a private pool with swim up bar, a daily stocked mini bar in room, and access to the Preferred Bar. We were primarily there for the diving, but also were looking to relax. I will address the room, restaurants, overall complex and the diving operation in my review. The room had an excellent view of the pool, with a good view of the ocean. It was well equipped with soaker tub, comfortable beds, and excellent wifi. The room was cleaned daily and restocked with ample towels and amenities. Very satisfied with the room and quality of the furniture, services etc. The resort is a series of resorts that are inter connected and thus there are multiple restaurants to choose from. Most were very good for dinner and there were a few that were so so for lunch. The Ocean Grille was very good with a great menu and good dinner service. Twice at lunch our meals were served cold which was a disappointment. The sushi restaurant and Skye Bar are a must. The sushi is fresh and the views fantastic. Sunsets at the Skye were remarkable. The Market Cafe was reliable and did an excellent breakfast. The overall complex is well laid out with great views and central locations. The lobby staff were always willing to help with luggage, rides and transportation. Its fairly easy to get around with a beach side walk way interconnecting all the resorts. Overall the facility is in good shape and showed signs of continual maintenance. My biggest issue was the palpas at the Preferred section. It was difficult to get a shaded palpa due largely to people going out early and laying a towel and a few items on the loungers, then taking off for hours. The resort speifically has a 30 minute rule regarding occupation of the palpas, but I never saw it enforced. The diving operation (The Dive House) ran two boats daily with 830 am departures to excellent reefs and gardens. Generally there were 10 - 12 divers on each boat, with Boat III being the most comfortable. The staff are all local and very easy going. They tended to leave divers alone and were helpful with gear issues and questions. The real plus is never having to touch your gear and having it washed and dried for you each evening - well worth the slight extra cost. Overall an excellent vacation and I would return to this resort.

I paid a bit more for this resort but I got my money's worth. You can save money by going to a cheaper resort but you end up at a cheaper resort. My choice was an ocean view room in the non "Preferred" section. Pros: The beach views there are fantastic. The selection of alcohol is great(4 kinds of Mexican beer) The staff is happy. It's a clean resort. Some of the food is quite good. Good drink/food service on the beach. (Thank you Arely and Eugenia!) Pretty good room service. Not super crowded like other resorts. Cons: Very very few beach umbrellas. I was ok because I moved my lounger under the shade of their palm trees after mid day but shade was a definite issue. Over all I would recommend this resort for those who want a quieter get away for an all around better stay. Prosit T

The room was beautiful and the ocean view is amazing. The bed is super soft and the cleaning staff leaves flowers and incense. The beach is very clean and beautiful. The resort is quite on the adult side and most of staff in friendly willing to help. Finally, it GREAT to have 24hr room service. But there was a lot of things that I was not satisfied with the resort. The drinks are not strong. There is not enough umbrellas at the beach for people on the non-preferred side. The level of harassment of the staff trying to push attending the 90min presentation and the staff trying to get information about excursions plans is ridiculous. Also, I was asked 3 time upon arrival to come visit the VIP desk as soon as I arrived. This was horrible. I was heading to dinner as soon as I got there and this lady chased me down to ask about my excursion plans and if I booked anything at the airport. I told the lady I pre-booked before I arrive and she didn’t accept that. After traveling most of the day the last thing you want is people to bothering you constantly about visiting the VIP desk. The rooms are hallow and you can hear your neighbor normal conversations.

Our first time visiting Cozumel. I would rate Secrets Aura Hotel as being nice & relaxed. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms certainly need updating, especially painting. There is a need of more cleanliness throughout the day. I did not see any activity as far as mopping and cleaning the areas - hallways, bathrooms - etc. The beach is very rocky getting into the water, so I suggest swim shoes. The excursions were awesome and the tour guides are very friendly and make you feel comfortable. The food and restaurants were just ok (the quality of food not so good) and the drinks were lousy. My overall rating would be 3 Stars.
