Before I come across as one of those stroppy posters, I urge people to note I submit lots of reviews and very rarely do I submit a bad one. We were staying in Playa Del Carmen for 2 weeks and decided to visit Cozumel. We opted to stay overnight and after a lot of deliberation we booked this hotel for a considerable sum, with our decision being swayed totally by the idea of the swim up rooms. We used our usual website for booking (I have booked over 100 hotels through them without issues) and we went the extra yard to get the ocean view room also. After our ferry crossing and a 6 mile taxi, we arrived really looking forward to our stay. The chap on the desk (Carlos) explained that due to essential maintenance, none of the swim up rooms were available, but he would upgrade us to a superior room, we were massively disappointed, but with his only alternative being that we could go elsewhere, we were left with little choice.. besides, we understand that sometimes maintenance can crop up and maybe the other room would be nice too? We were led upstairs in a heavily dented and dirty lift, through some tired corridors to a very musty smelling room, we went onto the balcony and noticed all the swim up rooms opposite were actually occupied and it became apparent that perhaps our room had simply been sold. We went back down to see Carlos who mumbled into silence when we presented our thoughts to him. I managed to negotiate a deal of a later check out the next day and he threw in a free massage, to be fair to Carlos he did the best he could and seemed suspiciously well versed in the situation we were in, something that was further confirmed when he printed off a disclaimer template with the massage, to say we would not pursue the matter any further. Anyhow.. to try and balance the negatives out a little, the beach was nice, the pools were clean, the staff were friendly and the food was ok, if we had paid a third of the price for a three star resort than we would have taken most of the above on the chin, but as this resort is currently masquerading as five star, they need to seriously up their game.

This was our honeymoon and had booked to stay at Sun Scape Sabor (the resort next door to Secrets). We had booked it quite last minute and we were coming from the UK. They kindly upgraded us from Sun Scape to Secrets, which we are incredibly grateful for - we loved our stay. (Our booking agent did say an upgrade was very likely.) This is the first time my husband and I had ever been on an all-inclusive holiday. The food and drinks were fantastic! Loved all the cocktails and I loved that your could drink them in and around the pool. We were there last week - so low season, and it was relatively quiet, which suited us. Our room was nice and big, kept clean - a few things were a little on the tired side, but the bed was very comfy and sheets nice and soft. Everyone who worked at Secrets were AMAZING. They really were so lovely, attentive and very, very nice. They work very hard, but they are always incredibly pleasant. The only reason I've given four stars is because of two reasons. My husband cut his foot quite badly on a broken tile in the pool, we also both had an upset stomach on two occasions. We also had a very mixed experience at the Spa. In all, we spent $500 USD at the Spa. We had a couples Swedish Massage and Hydrothrephy which was great. But I then spent $220 on a manicure and pedicure. Now, this is nothing against the ladies doing the treatment...but the quality of both the mani and pedi was no worth the amount I paid. The nail polish on my toes starting chipping after one day (she only put one coat on) and my gel manicure was not good. My gel nails were painted right from the cuticle (which is incorrect) they weren't "capped" properly, she put three coats on (two should be enough) - if the gel is too thick, they chip quicker. They were patchy and one of the bulbs in the UV machine wasn't working and it looked very old and tired. Had this been a cheap mani and pedi, I wouldn't have cared. But $220 is pretty extortionate, so the Spa needs to reduce prices there. Also, the "Resort Coupons" are useless, you can't use them anywhere. Overall, loved our stay, apart from a few little issues. The sea and sea life is amazing, so a dive is a must! We hired a jeep for a few days too, that was fun.

Prefered club was great, we spent a lot of time at the Prefered Club pool, they did check room keys to ensure that people really belonged there. Waiters and waitresses were very, nice and did their jobs well (there was one lady in the prefered club area, I can't remember her name but she worked nearly every day and always had a black headband under her hat, she was very sweet.)The food was good. the room was very large and airy. The snorkeling was great (although it would be nice if the activities desk was open a bit later.) The mosquitoes were out of control but the resort was doing EVERYTHING they could to control them but nature doesn't always get with the program. Bell staff was nice and helpful. The excursion people were kind of a pain and disorganized but they are independent contractors not employed by the resort.

So, basically I was there a year ago. And yet very disappointed not only with the hotel but with the secrets chain which I was very fond of. I would never go back to this hotel and definitely will be more careful even if it is a Secrets hotel. I really liked this chain as it was a secure brand hotels that would ensure quality, but not this time. Even they were gracious about our concerns and solve the problem, a lot of guest were very disappointed of the hotel. Not that clean, maintainance was not that good, AC´s not working properly, staff not very nice. Rooms not nice at all, unless you pay a lot of money which in that case you go to other luxury hotel, not this one. Food ok, not that spectacular. Restaurants staff nice to us. Front desk staff not that helpful. Managers better service. So, sorry to do this recommendation, but choose another hotel, do not go in this one. So many guest were complaining a lot, if you are coming from far away, you might be disappointed, so choose another one, which can guarantee unforgettable positive experience. Pictures that are on internet are for the "special guests" and for these type of rooms, you need to pay so much extra is not that worthy. Regular rooms are definetly not good.

We went last week of April/17 for our wedding anniversary. Overall is a very nice resort for all adults, food was great, drinks very very good for an all inclusive. Vicky at the Playa Oceana was very nice, thank you! All the restaurants had very good menus & again the food was amazing at each one of them. The place it's very nice, beautiful grounds & clean pools & the beach, everywhere we went. We had a great time & a beautiful ocean view from our suite. We're definitely going back to Secrets again.
