Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma, Bahamas
Merging sophistication, comfort and an unspoiled setting, Sandals Emerald Bay sets the standard for paradise, island-style. This temple of gracious living resides on secluded Great Exuma, in the Bahamas spectacular Exuma cays. Each guest room and suite has its own furnished terrace or balcony, and Residence Suites boast indoor and outdoor dining areas. For a la dolce vita gourmet treat, dine at El Cielo, whose enchanting Bahamian ambience is accentuated by floor-to-ceiling glass panels.
Steps from your room, you can savor a homeopathic treatment in an outdoor spa cabana, the tranquility of the quiet pool or the serenity of a white sand beach. For the tee set, the resorts championship 18-hole golf course was designed by golf legend, Greg Norman. Divers and snorkelers will relish Exuma Cays National Park and the brightly colored tropical fish, delicate coral and graceful manta rays right outside the bay. If you need a dose of culture, head for the George Town Straw Market or Little Exumas 16th-century cotton plantation.

If you are fortunate enough to get Sonia as your server, then you are in for a great experience. She took wonderful care of us and made the best recommendations! She truly cares about you having an enjoyable dinner or breakfast.
This was supposed to be the most magical, romantic honeymoon. First time we were ever out of the US, so needless to say we were super excited. Everything looked wonderful online (eye roll). The Pro's: The beach is beautiful, grounds are well kept, the pool bar is awesome with mostly friendly and funny bartenders. Quenton- one of our butlers was a true gem! He did things without us asking and he really takes his job seriously. The Con's: UGH where to start. Our curtains were broken. One sliding door literally took all my husbands strength to open. We had NO screen door; we saw other rooms had them, so therefore we could not sleep with the sound of the ocean. Our bar was NOT replenished everyday as other reviewers have mentioned- we had to ask even for waters some days. I would say 30% of the employees are truly friendly and happy. Forget about the others- they look miserable doing their job! We were shocked at the amount of employees we encountered that gave us snarky looks and appeared bothered by questions- it literally became laughable to us towards the end of our trip. We were like "is it us"? Especially the waitresses in Bahama Bay for breakfast- they were not nice at all. Then the fact that they kick you out of your room at the butt crack of dawn to wait around for an hour for the taxi ride back to the airport, to then wait another 2-3 hours for your flight!!! We had to wait over an hour for our luggage to be brought into our room our first day- and it was only brought after we called asking for it. We were scheduled for a massage and a woman with an attitude called us 15 minutes before our time and rudely asked where we were and said this would cut into our massage time. Well NOBODY told us we had to arrive 15 minutes before. They were super sweet once we got there though and we did get an hour massage as paid for. The lack of communication to the guests is horrible! Other couples we spoke to, got an envelope under their door outlining the details of their departure- we did not get that. We had to ask the front desk. Other couples mentioned they received a quote outlining their costs for booking their next Sandals trip- we did not get that. We really felt snubbed. They do not treat everyone equally. Oh- and the "private" candlelight dinner on the beach- is NOT so private when there are 4 other couples on the beach with you. We laughed at the signs around the resort advertising it to be "private". It was nice with the waves crashing in the background, but seriously, don't expect a private dinner. Our waiter for the dinner Trevon was awesome!!! I seriously can go on and on.... Please don't judge me for all this complaining. My husband and I are not complainers- we dealt with a lot there and didn't say anything until halfway through our trip- to which they only simply apologized. But when you spend over $7000 you expect perfection. Sandals is not for us. And we will not ever go back to Emerald Bay or any other Sandals resort. Maybe if you're super rich you get treated differently and wouldn't care about throwing this money out the window, but for us middle class young thirty-somethings- this was a true let down. Definitely not the honeymoon we hoped for. The food was hit or miss as well- chewy steak.. gross. Seems as though they have plates made already and stick them in a warmer like they do at weddings. Kimonos and Il Cielo were very good. I have never written a review on here but we were just so upset, I felt the need to share my experience. I wish we had the same experience as some of the good reviews on here say- I really don't know how they are raving the way they do!? What would be amazing is if Sandals would comp a new trip to prove they can do better. Sandals is know for luxury and stellar service but this resort was just disappointing.

Gordon “Butch” Stewart the founder of Sandals would be ashamed of this resort. If his idea is based on giving people more than they expect then something has gone wrong. From the moment we booked this holiday we started to regret it as the customer service following booking was so dismissive to the point of being upsetting. Having got past that hurdle we looked forward to the trip. Arrival at club reception was difficult - possibly language issues but more likely staff being tired. Our room was well located, albeit damp and musty and we chose to take a quick shower. On getting out of the shower we discovered that we had no towels at all -a common and recurring problem not only in the room but at the pools. There were very key things missing in the room such as a clock, fully stocked bar and patio furniture. The Dive Crew was good and young guy on the Cats on the beach was very nice. The food on the whole was good - especially Bombay (the manager there was so professional and charming). The buffet should be avoided unless you have a liking of tuna sandwiches with curled edges and chicken in cornflour gloop. I will choose not to continue about the issues that other reviewers have covered. The resort is marketed as more select and smaller than some other sandals but it is still full of noisy drinkers especially late afternoon. Given the premium that The Sandals brand demands it really does not offer luxury and value. It is not a holiday I would recommend to anyone.

This was a trip of a lifetime! We arrived at the airport and Sandals had a long line of cabs waiting for the guest all organized by Sandals staff at the airport. Once we arrived we were immediately met at the door with a refreshing cold cloth (it was hot), then escorted into the lobby where we were greeted by our butler Sydney. He gave us a tour of the property as he escorted us to our over sized beach front walk out villa. Having the butler and the ocean front was worth every penny. The room was spacious, the bar was replenished every night. Our butlers Sydney and Corey we excellent. They took care of everything; dinner reservations, spa reservations, drinks at the beach or pool, snacks at the beach or pool, they would set fresh towels up for us each morning under the palapa on the beach near our room. They would do the same at the pool. They made us a lunch to take on our excursions off the resort. They anticipated every thing we could possibly ever need or want. The entire staff was very friendly. Food was good, our favorite was the Japanese with the Teppan. We had the breakfast buffet at the Bombay only once, because we preferred the food we could order from our Butler, so we ate breakfast on our patio every day. We used the spa one day, the service was good, but I don't feel they give you enough time to just relax and enjoy the spa area. We took an excursion off the resort from Four C's tour group. It was an 8 hour trip that took us to swim with the pigs, see iguana island, swim with the sharks, snorkel, get lunch at a local eatery and tour many cays. It was a great trip and I highly recommend it. The resort has many restaurants and activities that are all included. This was by far one of my favorite vacations for relaxing and rejuvenating and I will be going back.

We visited Sandals Emerald Bay Oct 2 - 7 and had an absolute wonderful time! Resort is beautiful, water and ocean are beyond words! We were celebrating our 21st anniversary so splurged and stayed in an ocean front walk out villa and had the pleasure of having Action Jackson and Garth as our butlers! We flew out of Louisville at 7:15 am on Monday morning and were in the ocean by 2! Very easy to get there! Ventured out and did the swimming with pigs excursion and lunch on a private island! We sat on a private beach and had an awesome packed lunch! Only thing I would like to mention to maintenance is with the humidity and tropical climate, sometimes the blankets felt damp and a little musty. If you haven't been to Sandals Emerald Bay you need to put it on your bucket list and get there! And when you get there ask for Jackson and Garth and tell them we said hello!
