If the mention of "Cancun" conjures images of endless parties fueled by those neon yardsticks of questionable alcohol, consider this: Cancun tops the list of hot destinations for wellness retreats, thanks to Zotry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun, which debuts on its namesake island in late 2014. Here Olani Thalassotherapy spa treatments and yoga classes happen in an environment that values serenity and "Endless Privileges" means top-shelf cocktails and gourmet meals made from organic, locally grown ingredients.

I just don't understand the reviews that say this facility is a letdown from what a few of the other reviews say. I've stayed all over the world in everything from midrange to five diamond facilities, and this was hands down the best boutique hotel and overall one of the best most relaxing trips I’ve ever taken. The dining alone outdid itself and made the trip worthwhile and my wife and I are foodies so we have high expectations when we look at things. The ceviche, tuna tartare, seafood risotto at Casa Rolandi are amongst 3 of the best dishes I’ve had in my life. The 7 course meals at Le Metissage were great, sure there were a few of the 7 courses that may not have been our cup of tea but when you do it 6 nights that’s a few out of 42 different dishes in a week, all plates were pieces of art with a multitude of tastes. The drinks, all very fresh, mojitos and caipirinha were excellent! The views at sunset are some of the best you will see in the world, I watched 6 of the 7 of them from either the salt water hot tub or freshwater pool (there is also a saltwater pool). The service is even beyond what you expect from a 35 room full service everything facility like this. They all know your name, they all greet you by name and the staff always get you anything you need at any time. For those that need to work or stay socially connected, the WiFi works extremely well across the resort, be it in your room, on the beach, at the pool or any pubic area. I’m always connected (wish I could disconnect more) but this was well beyond my expectations for being in paradise and having to get some work done here or there. The couples massage was great (though the message rooms a bit small I’d recommend just doing it separate), felt nice and relaxed & that was after we had already gotten them previously on the beach downtown when we rented a golf cart for 24 hours (did this off site). The price of the resort can be a bit steep when looking just at the site but it’s well worth it, that being said we got an amazing deal about 3 weeks ahead of time though a popular 3rd party website which the resort told us to call them next time and they will match that price (I’m fine handing them all the $$$ because it’s well deserved). We had one of the few rooms without a balcony as we booked the last room and through a 3rd party, but were fine as with only 35 all ocean view rooms it was like 18 steps downstairs and out to the pool deck. Even at capacity for most of our visit there was never a fight for pool chairs or ocean seating. Nothing I could say except, would love to go back and this certainly encouraged us to try the Zoetry brand in the future!

Epicurus, a Greek Philosopher held the highest good is pleasure and that the world was a series of fortuitous combinations of atoms. Not sure about that last part, other than it could be attributed to the newest in culinary wizardry, like molecular formulas, some of which you might even experience at Le Metisage. Executive Chef, Felipe Vega, (originally from Chile and who has trained under Master Chef Paul Bocuse) is true to his heritage & of Mexican, Italian dishes and is constantly pushing the gastronomic envelope with his Chef d'cusine, Adrian Regalado, to deliver new and memorable nuevelle cusines. His other Chef, Pedro Pina, for the main restaurant and his crew are masters at preparing the classic dishes that have mainlanders and hotel guests raving. Fast forward 2,347 years from Epicurius' view and you have the epitome of epicurean delights at Zoetry Resorts, Villa Rolandi. Longtime Restaurant Manager, Gerardo Burgueno (who trained in Paris) keeps both restaurants running like a well-tuned race car, making sure guests want for nothing. By design, Z/VR is devoted to the pursuit of sensual pleasure, especially in the enjoyment of excellent food and comfort. The sensuous and luxurious living is yours to be enjoyed while staying at this quiet little gem of a hotel. The list is evident in their pledge of 'Endless Privileges', perhaps only eclipsed by their one-on-one service and wish to 'Create Memories'. I have written previously of Villa Rolandi, 'Bella Amore', 'Mi Casa su Casa' & 'Escape to Fantasy Island'. And like so many here who have reviewed and extolled the virtues of this small boutique hotel, it's really really hard to be more effusive. Safe to say, if you are seeking to rest and relax, (the Wellness Spa, although a little pricey, as noted by previous guests, is a Mayan experience not to be missed). Especially nice new touch is Ricardo's complimentary ice cold cucumber eye bath and soothing head & neck massage poolside. Be pampered and enjoy the simple pleasures of being catered to at every turn and savor artfully prepared food - you have found the perfect spot. All hotels of this caliber, strive to provide extraordinary service. It all starts with General Manager, Marco Soria, originally from Naples, Italy, his Italian charm is infectious. He is the consummate host who makes a point of getting to know his guests. He manages his staff, with a gentle touch and emphasis on perfection. The smiles and gestures of kindness that come from these VR staff members, is nothing short of, 'best of the best'. All you have to do is ask and your wish is granted. They have an uncanny ability to anticipate your every need. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't make it a game behind the scenes, to know each guests name and favorite menu or drink items. That is dedication, followed by their saying "con mucho gusto" making their personal service, unquestionably genuine. Tipping is neither required or expected, but how can you not reward these hardworking people with your gratitude with a few extra dollars a day during your stay. Awards are nice, but it's the guests that truly recognize what Z/VR has to offer. Maybe it's a result of getting older and set in one's ways, you become a little less adventurous and resort to being exclusive to those places and things that are familiar. The Ultimate Driving Machine is our joy on the road, at sea, we only cruise on Windstar, a pre-dinner Martini to sooth away the rough edges of the day and our favorite place for peace and serenity is Villa Rolandi. It has been said, 'it is the journey that counts, not the destination'. Well, why not make this an extra special journey and upgrade to First Class, on your favorite airline, you'll be met at the airport in Cancun, driven to the marina and taken by Private Yacht to your destination, where nothingness begins. If by chance you have to take the Ultramar ferry service, it's quick and efficient. Due to rough seas on our return, the hotel arranged it all dutifully coordinated by Karen the Concierge on hand at the Island Ferry dock and at the other end. Do yourself a favor, give yourself permission to treat yourself to a vacation like no other. Here on Isla Mujeres, a unique island in the Caribbean, at a resort who's reputation precedes itself. If you are a returning guest, the point is mute, you already know what to expect...Epicurean Delights. PS: As always, our sincerest 'thank you and fondest wishes' to all our VR extended family who looked after us, hasta luego until our return - Muchias Gracias & Tanto amore, your Villa Rolandi Jack.

We loved our stay at Zoetry. Service was fantastic throughout our stay - from arrival to departure. Our pool service was the best. Every employee we encountered (from housekeeping to waitstaff in the restaurant ) was friendly and attentive. They got to know us and remembered our names by the third day. It was truly the most relaxing vacation. The room was perfect and we enjoyed our patio as well. It was the absolute perfect, relaxing vacation and we can't wait to return.

We so enjoyed our stay. We just wish we hadn’t blown 3 nights a Secrets Akamul before had. We so enjoyed the boutique small ambience all ocean front room property. The property is an older property and needs some continuing upgrading but nothing to detract us from going back. Let us tell you what we liked: 1. View of Cancun skyline at dusk and night. 2. Sunsets 3. Food: both restaurants were great. 4. Room: concert walls. Quiet and large. 5. Beach and soft beach sand. Great for swimming and cooling off. 6. Pools: 2 different temperatures to choose from plus pool size jacuzzi facing the ocean. 7. Staff service and help. Berenice, Malena and our breakfast waiter Genner were all really helpful. Went out of their way to be helpful. Lastly, we have been to all the UVC properties in the Cancun- Playa area. This is our favorite if you like relaxing and quiet.

We had such an amazing trip. When we arrived it was pouring rain. When we arrive at the Resort on a private yacht transfer from Hacienda Marina Del Mar the bellman from Zoetry was waiting for us in the rain until someone ran out to give him and us an umbrella. He kept a smile on the whole time. What a way to start the trip!! The staff is so accommodating. The 7 course meal in the Le Metissage was simply amazing! If there is something you don't like they will bring an equally deli shish alternative. We had an amazing time!
