Zoetry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun in Isla Mujeres, Mexico

If the mention of "Cancun" conjures images of endless parties fueled by those neon yardsticks of questionable alcohol, consider this: Cancun tops the list of hot destinations for wellness retreats, thanks to Zoëtry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun, which debuts on its namesake island in late 2014. Here Olani Thalassotherapy spa treatments and yoga classes happen in an environment that values serenity and "Endless Privileges" means top-shelf cocktails and gourmet meals made from organic, locally grown ingredients.

Greet the day on your suite's private balcony looking out across the Yúcatan Peninsula's emerald seas. Catch a morning pilates class, snorkel on the second largest coral reef in the world, and unwind on the private dock jutting far into the Makax Lagoon. Order a personalized, unforgettable dinner for two served seaside, raising a glass of chilled zinfandel to a perfect retreat. Keep the wine flowing late into the night with complimentary room service.

I’ve been travelling to Isla Mujeres since the late 90’s, staying either at Casa de Los Suenos or at Villa Rolandi. Both properties are on the side of the island that is peaceful, quiet, and offers those marvelous Isla Mujeres sunsets you read about. This year, I returned to an “all inclusive” version of this hotel, now part of the Zoetry collection. I booked a 4-day stay out of familiarity, but with some trepidation about what “all inclusive” might mean. I was happily surprised on arrival to greet the staff I had known for years (vs. staff turnover with an ownership change). The room was as beautiful as I remember. When I asked for the full explanation of “all inclusive”, I was floored. Get this... First, all meals are included. This wouldn’t necessarily be a big deal except for the fact that Villa Rolandi has the two finest gourmet restaurants in Isla Mujeres on property, the acclaimed Italian Casa Rolandi (see my review), and the newer Le Métissage with its 7-course French degustation. Yes, that’s where hotel guests enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. That alone made the price of my room a unbelievable bargain. But there’s more. I had ferried over from Cancun, prearranged by myself, via Ultramar as I always do only to learn that my transfers to and from the Villa Rolandi private dock were also included! Yes, private transfers are included. Waiting in my room was an ice-bucketed bottle of chilled champagne and fresh fruit. But, this wasn’t a welcome gift. They will deliver this luxury daily. All libations and wines are also included: at the bar, poolside, in your room and in the restaurants. Although the free flow of alcohol can make for a rowdy poolside environment as the afternoon wanes on, there are two other pools (including an adults only pool) less frequented, and there’s a gentle private beach, too. On certain nights, take a ride on the Rolandi sunset cocktail cruise (included, of course). If you want to go into town some night for dinner or shopping, the Villa Rolandi yacht can drop you off. No charge. How about this: They will do your laundry. Yes, really. Included. Need good strong WiFi? There's a router in each of the 35 rooms. Hosted bicycle rides in the morning, yoga lessons, beach kayaks and paddle boards. Want to see the turtles hatching (in season)? The front desk will phone you in the middle of the night so you don’ miss out. There’s also a significant spa at Rolandi, and you will be handed a fist full of discount coupons for spa services as you check in. This upscale property is an unbelievable value, especially for foodies. If you are a foodie like me, then, my friend, this is the place for you. It’s foodie heaven. I’ll won't be staying at nearby Casa de los Suenos again. I stopped by to check it out on this same trip. Trust me, steer clear. Since the change in management in August 2017, I’ve given up all hope on that formerly well-run property. The five-star reviews on Trip Advisor were all earned by the previous owners and now-gone management team. Instead, head over to Zoetry Villa Rolandi for beauty, value, and round-the-clock gourmet dining. Finally, don’t be scared off by high prices on the Zoetry website. You can find terrific bargains by searching around the Internet. The best I found was on the Chase Bank Ultimate Rewards website, and you don’t need points to take advantage. If you have a Chase card, you can get their bargain pricing whether you pay in all cash, cash and points, or all points.

I have stayed at the Villa Rolandi when it was privately owned, and now owned by the Zoetry Properties. The people and experience are the same! EXCEPT, this time, my husband surprised me with a private Vow renewal on the Beach at Sunset. It was sooo special. Cynthia made everything perfect & I will remember it forever. The pools, the food and the people are what make Rolandi (and Isla) an amazing gem to travel too. We will be back!

We stayed at the Zoetry Paraiso de La Bonita and took the day trip Wahoo Express over to the Island of Isla Mujeres. Rented a golf cart and was able to have lunch at their CASA ROLANDI restaurant. What a lunch it was! Friends have stayed at this Zoetry and raved about it so had to try their lunch. Prosciutto with melon to start was so large and fresh, could have been my lunch. This was followed by Fish fillet wrapped in banana leaves seasoned with a Mayan sauce, onion, tomatoes and habanero. Also Excellent. Style of service vs other Zoetry was so different in a positive way. Entree Dishes were brought covered and all opened at once by staff. Staff was excellent. Potato Gnocchi with four cheese sauce, tomato or pesto sauce also was very good. Rooms are slightly smaller here vs La Bonita.

Wonderful exclusive resort. Impeccable service our whole stay, personalized, friendly and dedicated. Their attention to detail is very impressive. Both restaurants are excellent, there wasn't one item we didn't like! Isla Mujeres is beautiful, we visited the whole island over a few days. Great vacation!
