The good. Food was great and we loved dinners without reservations! Favorite was the portifino. Beach was awesome. We found a quiet place by the volleyball court with either sun or shade. Coco cafe was wonderful and the workers were tireless! The overall vibe of the place was really fun and relaxing. Foam party was a blast. The average. Service and worker friendliness was just ok. Rooms were mostly clean and decently supplied... more later. Lunch options... except for taco day, which was really good. The bad. On the Third floor rooms, you could hear straight through the walls. You could clearly hear conversations, the TV, and alarms (at 5 am??????). This was a huge source of frustration. We were missing cash from the safe, and things had been moved in the safe. We complained, and didn’t hear back from management or our Apple rep. Be very careful..... We were not privilege and didn’t feel it would have been worth it. The amenities seemed pretty similar. Overall a very good and enjoyable vacation, but we would not return.

My friend, her young son and I stayed for 11 nights in February 2018 (a first trip to the Dominican Republic) and compared to our many previous trips to the Caribbean this hotel was a disappointment. The good... - some staff were great - PIcasso, the beach waiters, housekeeping, our female waiter in Oceana - fresh omelettes and pancakes in the buffet restaurant were great for breakfast - The asian and sea food restaurants are superb, try the hibachi cooking - lots of wildlife around the hotel - red rock crabs, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, lizards, butterflies and flamingos - more than enough sun beds so no need to rush - no real bother with mosquitos - room fridge refilled daily - covered walk ways from rooms to the main areas and umbrellas in the rooms for when it rains (every day unfortunately for us) - Lovely spa - cool ecological reserve - wifi pretty much everywhere - no straws at the beach bar approach to limit plastic in the oceans - recycling bins The bad... - Prior to travelling I emailed the hotel twice to check that they could support our twin room request (we had booked 11 months ago so didn't think this would be a problem), and to request an upgrade if available, I received no response. - We requested a twin room, were told at check in we had a twin room, but when we reached the room it had one double bed for the 3 of us to share. I called reception to resolve and had to explain the issue over and over again to 5 different members of staff, each one of them rudely disappearing from the call and handing over to a colleague with no explanation. Eventually I managed to reach the manager who said they could put a room in the bed for the child - I'm curious as to who thought that at 10pm at night, checking 2 adults and a child into a double room without this prepared already was acceptable. After being forced to sign a legal form while standing in the corridor relinquishing the partial sea view we had paid for (for no refund) the hotel eventually granted us access to a twin room with no sea view. I requested that the manager schedule an appointment with me to discuss our complaints and the upgrade request we made prior to arrival. I am still waiting to hear from them. - Room bathroom had mould, a damaged warped ceiling that little spiders kept dropping out of and a leaking shower tap that didn't work properly - The change in room wasn't correctly updated on the hotel system. When our key stopped working and I went to reception I was told I couldn't be in that room and where did I get this key from? The behaviour towards me was one of suspicion and challenge for 15 minutes in front of other guests, with no apology - Many of the staff behind the bars were completely rude and ignore you even when you are standing in front of them unless (it appeared) you were male. - At various points during our stay the hotel ran out of white wine, champagne, vodka, tonic, disaronno, pina colada mix, malibu, ice cream and beach towels - I was refused 1 glass of white wine at the lobby bar (as it wasn't available). I returned to our seats to ask my friend what she wanted instead and when I returned to the bar, 2 minutes later, they were serving white wine to a male customer and looking decidedly uncomfortable when they saw me watching them do this. (It was our first drink of the day so there was no allegation of being too under the influence.) - The porters at the front of the hotel blatantly ignored us - The concierge told us we couldn't check in for our return flight through him and he couldn't help us - until he found out we were travelling business class - then miraculously he could help us do this. - The Amstar representatives on site gave incorrect information about the trips we had booked e.g. told us there are no lockers for valuables on the dolphin explorer trip when there are but when we got there and discovered this we had already left all of our valuables (like cameras!) in the hotel. They also tried to get us to pay extra for transport costs for a trip which was not described when we booked it on line and was not part of the terms and conditions. - one member of staff told us we could eat in the adult only French restaurant with my friend's son if we sat outside, then another said we could only eat there with a child if we paid $30 for a bottle of wine - this makes no sense, we declined and ate elsewhere All in all, I wouldn't be rushing back to this hotel

We stayed at Dreams La Romana for 3 days before and 3 days after a week long cruise. Had previously stayed at this resort so we knew that it was beautiful. Food was good, but not as good as we had remembered it. We stayed at Dreams Palm Beach for a week before going to LaRomana and both agreed that the food was definitely better at DPB this time around. The service was good but again we both felt that it had been better at DPB. The rooms, however, are definitely more updated at DLR.

Stayed at Dream La Romana Feb 14 - 21 Flew down from Saskatchewan with Sunwing and had to land in Cuba on way done to fuel up. I would have thought that a plane could make it all the way to Dominica Republic with stopping to refuel. So we ended up getting in late to DR. The 45 or so min ride to resort was Ok, highways are nice. Check in went quickly and smoothly, no welcome drinks though. Bags taken to room by bellman with us. Rooms were adequate size with balcony, nice bathrooms with shower, safe, air conditioning worked well. We had 2 rooms for 4 of us. One room had 2 double beds and one had a king and twin... beds firm. We asked for rooms close together and they were, with one room between us. Rooms clean and housekeeping came daily. Mini bar restocked daily - 2 beer, 3 soda and 3-4 water. The buffet restaurant was good, we ate there several times as teens liked the variety vs the a la carts. Food was tasty, adequate variety, fairly hot. We did eat at the Italian and enjoyed it. The Oceana had seafood options and beef tenderloin and was good. Enjoyed the mixed grill and ribs at Seaside grill, steak was ok not great. We ate lunch at the beach grill several days,where they had burgers, hotdogs and nachos. And there was fresh fruit at beach in mornings. We also enjoyed the pizzeria by the pool bar, several options , quick and tasty. The beach bar and swim up bar at Infinity pool were awful. Staff would ignore you and instead straighten straws and wipe counter rather than take your order. The lobby bar and pool bar by pizzeria were better. Enjoyed the mojitos, banana mammas and dirty bananas. The beach was great. No seaweed, gentle waves, not clear water I think due to waves and fine sand but still beautiful. The pools could have used a bit of maintenance but were clean. The pools were cold though. The water sports were just ok. The paddle boards were missing the rubber foot pads, probably an easy fix to glue back on, safety issue. The beginning of week 4 or 5 sail boat/ hobie cats and by end of week only 2 working. Saw kayaks and pedal boats as well. Could snorkel past pier but water not as clear as other places , saw some fish. Several salespeople trying to sell vacation club. We went to the presentation to get the leisure money that we used to book excursion $100 per room. The presentation that was supposed to last 90 minutes lasted over 3 hours. But in the end we said no and there was no pressure. We went to Scape Park, which was about 45 minutes away. We did the "blue hole" which is a cenote/sink hole in the side of a cliff. It was awesome. A bit of a hike, my daughter did not enjoy the walk after she saw a snake, and her Dad was bitten by a wasp, but was worth it. Jumped into cool blue crystal clear water and swam ( my son used the stairs). It was natural beauty. The lunch was very nice at the cafe. The second part was a waterfall adventure. Travel down a trail in an army type truck. See more cliffs with caves, taken to ocean area that is rocks and crashing waves where stop for photos, then back to a farm house to see what life is like there. The waterfalls look man-made. There are man-made rocks around, water freezing, not very clean, no water running or falling from cliffs, water doesn't run out of lower pool area, saw a black pipe outside of area. Was disappointed. Overall was good. Liked this area better than Punta Cana as beach was calmer and not as windy. Could walk into Bayhibe and watch excursions leave to and return from Saona Island or walk around the town. Didn't speak with any management but think if bar service was better and water sports equipment was maintained this would be a much better vacation. The housekeeping and restaurant staff was Good, the Spa was great. I would say was ok but not great.

Best holiday ever relaxing fun staff fantastic white Russian cocktails the strongest ive tasted .would stay again in a heartbeat. Fantastic beach coffee shop maids pool bar restaurants good .rooms spacious no problems with anything.
