Couples Trip to Secrets La Romana

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

Hi Travellers, My wife and I went to Secrets La Romana mid- May and had an amazing trip. We flew into Punta Cana from Toronto on Air Canada, then got a private transfer for the 45-minute ride. We were booked as Preferred Guests and really enjoyed the experience. Check-in was in the Preferred Lounge area and was quick and easy. We had our bags brought up by Edwin Guerrero, who was very nice and professional. Great immediate first impressions. We then met our concierge, Antonio, who was amazing all week long. Every day Antonio got us a great spot by the Preferred pool and a soft cooler full of water, Corona and White Wine for my wife. Later each day, Antonio came by with a fresh fruit platter and checked in on us throughout the day. The non-preferred pool was great as well, however, if your budget affords it go Preferred and its worth it. Private pool with swim-up bar, private portion of the beach, concierge, private lounge with full bar and premium drinks. Also, in the preferred pool and lounge, there was imported beer including Corona, Heineken, Miller Genuine Draft and Bourban for a Cdn who misses it :) At the pool each day was one of our favourite staff members Wilfrido Garcia. Wilfrido greeted us each day with a smile and helped get us towels and fresh towels throughout the day, was quick to set up our pool umbrella and always checking in to see if we needed anything. He was awesome, thank you Wilfrido. One of our absolute favourite things about the resort was there were no dinner reservations needed. You just showed up so we never felt rushed on vacation. The exception was the Japanese restaurant. There was a sports bar which allowed us to watch a little NHL and a small casino if your into that. Good resort food all around and good service. Our rooms were cleaned really well each day as well. Also this is essentially a non smoking resort which was great. There are designated smoking areas and we never had to experience someone next to us in a lounger chain smoking all day (sorry smokers) Finally, the ocean was awesome, no sargassem! We did literally bump into a manatee, which was a scare and we were told a few lived in the area and were harmless. The beach is not ideal for long walks as its not that big. We have travelled to countless resorts the past 30 years and we will definitely be back to this one. Thank you to the Secrets Team for an awesome trip.

Just returned from secrets la romana with my wife and we had a great holiday . Waited on like royalty . Every member of staff greated you as you pass them . Waiters & waitresses always seem to be smiling and cant do enough for you . Room was spacious and cool . Pools was a good temperature and plenty of sunbeds available. Plenty of choices on restaurants. Next to the beach again with plenty of sunbeds . Would definitely recommend this hotel to visit.

Let me begin by saying if you want a great dining experience, start off at Spice Market and aak to be seated at BIENVENIDO’s area. He is the absolute BEST employee this resort has. What a beautiful person. So attentive, always with a smile on his face. Location: THE BEST. Gorgeous beach, no waves. Always found lounge chairs for everyone that was on vacation with me. Atmosphere: great to relax. But needs more up beat music to liven the place up. It was a bit boring listening to spa music all day. FOOD: Buffet, Japanese restaurant, Coastal Grill are outstanding but the food at other restaurants ie.. Chinola, Mare lacked. Most of the food is not fresh seems more like Costco/Pricemart food. Rooms: Bathrooms need an upgrade. Air conditioning worked beautifully. Cleanliness of resort was 10/10. We have traveled to Dreams/Secrets for over a decade, hotel has changed owners a few times. Somehow it’s not getting better as far as whats offered for preferred guests, food keeps getting worse. Please offer more DOMINICAN food. Apart from the atmosphere which is GORGEOUS, the food should be fresh not bought frozen and served.

An amazing experience! Great babymoon experience!

Honestly beat our expectations. The food was so delicious it felt like we were going out to a nice restaurant for dinner rather than an all-inclusive. The staff was super friendly, I heard things about staff in DR not being as friendly but I did not experience that here at all. The grounds were perfectly kept. The water park was great. I came here for a Babymoon so we stayed on the Secrets side but we plan on coming back with our kids and staying on the Dreams side next time! I think with the hotel being about an hour from Punta Cana, you don't get the crazy party crowd here but the crowd was still lively and fun!

Unfortunately it doesn't live up to its high star rating.

We encountered far too many problems right from the start that made this anything but a relaxing, enjoyable holiday, although the staff did do their best to put things right. Just some of the problems we encountered were: had to change rooms on day one as the first was damp and musty. Safe didn't work. New room still felt damp, with paint peeling and mould on the bathroom wall. Shower controls fell off the wall. Kettle didn't work. Curtains jammed. Overcrowded beach with lack of shade. Patio flooded when it rained. Both suffered diarrhoea/stomach complaints. Glass fragment found in buffet food. The following comments are more subjective rather than factual: we didn't feel the 'Preferred Club' facilities warranted a premium rate. The 'house wines' were sub-standard and the alternatives highly priced. The food in most of the outlets was not we expected of such a highly rated venue. Too much loud music in the public areas. The resort location is an a very isolated area. In our view this resort probably appeals to the younger set but is not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful sojourn. Our comments/observations were made to Jean Carlos Rivera of Secrets before we left who was very apologetic, offering by way of compensation an upgrade on any future visit, a gesture we feel unable to accept. We have voiced our concerns with BA Holidays and await their comments.
