Beautiful location but property needs repairs/updates

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

We stayed here about 10 years ago and the property and service were exceptional. This stay however, was lackluster. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms are in dire need of repairs (Slow draining sinks, floor tile has huge gaps, water damage along walls, jacuzzi tub on balcony falling apart) and SOME staff appear to be upset if you make simple request or ask questions. On the other hand, there were many pleasant staff that made our stay rather nice. Overall, I would rate this resort a 3 out of 5.

Extremely rude service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 15 hours ago

The staff was incredibly rude. Very few members were friendly. We were very generous tippers and it didn’t matter, in fact whenever we tipped it was as if they were upset it wasn’t more. We spent a lot of money to stay there and know that tipping isn’t expected, but we did every time we went to eat or at the bars. When we wanted to try out the paddle boarding and snorkeling 🤿 the lady who was working seemed annoyed that we were there. We were told to arrive at 8:45 for a 9:00AM snorkeling session. We walked past the building on accident making us 5 minutes late (still there before 9:00) but she said because it was just the two of us she wouldn’t send us out so we were told to come back at 9:45 for the 10:00 AM session. We were annoyed, but we were like okay fine let’s try paddle boarding while we wait. She was annoyed with that request but let us go. Finally we get to the building to go snorkeling 30 min before scheduled time and she had sent out a couple so again needed to wait for them to come back. Then she sent us to talk to someone else. We walk over and that person said no you need to go see her so we go back and now there’s a line of people wanting to go snorkeling. Fast forward to getting in the water to snorkel. Our guide didn’t give us any information and just assumed we knew what we were doing, even though several people said they never tried snorkeling. We were on our own. I kept getting water in my mouth I was so confused until I realized my mouth piece was broken so I couldn’t bite down properly. I tell the guide and he was not helpful or didn’t offer to get a new one. Needless to say I never made it to the reef. Only 2 people out of 8 made it to the reef. Terrible experience for something that should’ve been really fun. The sports bar rarely had sports on and when anyone asked to find whatever sport there were looking for they didn’t try very hard or simply ignored them. One of the bartenders didn’t even talk to the patrons he didn’t want to be there. At one point he was gone for 20-30 min without anyone covering the bar. People started cheering when he came back. It was unfortunate he was the bartender for 3 of our nights there we went to other bars. There was 1 bartender at the piano bar that was great, but the other bartenders with him paid no attention to us. The lifeguard was sleeping. We never had a server come up to us if we were on our lounger. When we were walking to dinner a staff member in the lobby stopped us and asked how our stay has been and after we answered she said “ can you go get 3 ice creams for me and two other girls?” It was very uncomfortable. We stopped by the ice cream place and I asked if I could get ice cream for the staff in the lobby and she said no and they know that. It was as if she was only nice so we would do her a favor. A couple positive things: The view/property was beautiful Easy ride to and from the airport Asian restaurant was good Italian restaurant was good Freestyle was very nice and made everyone feel welcomed. I will not be back to this particular resort.

Outstanding Value at a Beautiful Resort

This was my first trip to an all inclusive and let me tell you I will definitely do it again. We upgraded to a room with a swim out porch that had butler service included. Before I got there I wasn't sure how that was going to go but our Butlers Kenton and Betty really wowed me. Even when you're on vacation there can be work to do, like figuring out where to eat, setting up beach stuff etc... Kenton and Betty handled all of that for us. They made dinner reservations for us every night and made sure we had a spot at any pool or beach on the property ready to go in the morning. And talk about first impressions: there was a maintenance problem with our room that we discovered shortly after check in. Kenton and Betty swooped right in to help us change to a different room down the hall. We stayed in a Preferred Club Junior Suite with a swim out porch. The room was clean and well appointed. The wild orchid preferred pool and beach were nice but very quiet. If you are looking for more social interaction one of the regular Saint James or Wild Orchid pools may be your thing. The food was fine. I liked the breakfast buffet. My favorite meal was the Oxtails at the Blue Mountain Restaurant and the Piano Bar had the best selection of liquor that I saw. The chefs working the hibachi tables were out of this world energetic and fun. All in all this was a great trip. The whole resort is nice but if you can book something with butler service it will take your experience to the next level. Thanks again to Kenton and Betty for their help making our trip to Jamaica a memorable one.

Lots of fun

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Fun resort, not too big and everything walkable. Food and drinks were excellent by all-inclusive standards. Hibachi was phenomenal. Some wear and tear on the buildings but as expected for a humid climate. Staff were wonderful, polite, cheerful (not rude as some reviews mentioned). Sometimes hard to get a lounge chair in the shade - make sure you don't burn your first day! Beach was nice (although not walkable for long stretches). Could even see some cool fish right off the resort! Pool drinks seemed watered down but they would make them stronger upon request. Night drinks (Desires, Piano Bar) seemed to be normal/high strength without asking. Bring earplugs for sleeping as some rooms are adjoined to strangers. I used them for some shows that were loud and at the Hibachi as well so carried them with me all the time and they came in handy. Overall, enjoyed the trip and would do a Secrets and Jamaica again! The airport was also really nice inside and ~20 mins away.
