Average Resort, Luxury Pricing and Disappointing Execution

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 15 hours ago

I wish I had booked another resort like the Excellence resorts I usually stay at, because this was a very low-quality experience for what is marketed as a 5-star hotel. There were a lot of promises, but throughout the stay it constantly felt like they were looking for ways to make more money off guests instead of actually delivering a premium experience. The grounds are beautiful, but there are an overwhelming amount of stairs everywhere. It would be extremely difficult for pregnant women, elderly guests, or anyone with knee issues. Yes, they offer shuttle service, but you constantly have to call and wait for it, which becomes frustrating very quickly when you just want to move around freely. Some positives: The room was spacious and comfortable. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The resort is generally quiet and relaxing. The evening events like the jamaica night party was okay However, the negatives outweighed the positives for us. The resort is about two hours from the airport, which becomes exhausting after a long flight. Check-in was disorganized and disappointing. I noted on the form that we were celebrating my birthday, and I also mentioned it directly to the front desk staff. Nothing was done. No birthday wishes, no small gesture, no drink, no surprise, absolutely nothing. I honestly don’t understand why they ask for this information if they have no intention of acknowledging it. The food was underwhelming overall. Dinner was decent at best, but nothing memorable or luxurious. Breakfast and lunch felt very basic, and simple things like burger buns were often stale and hard. The excursions desk was one of the worst parts of the experience. The woman there came across dismissive and unhelpful, and many things advertised in the brochure as “included” actually came with significant extra costs. It felt misleading and difficult to understand what was truly part of the package. Another major disappointment was the restaurant situation. They advertise six restaurants, but in reality only about three were actually available, and two of those required reservations well in advance. Imagine arriving on day one and suddenly realizing your dining options are already limited. Another issue we dealt with was the amount of flying insects around the property, especially near the stairways leading to the rooms. Unfortunately, they also found their way into the rooms themselves. It was very uncomfortable and something we dealt with for about four out of the five nights we stayed there. The property itself also needs major updates and renovations. Parts of our room looked worn down, and there was even an area in the ceiling/pop section that looked like it had water damage. We were literally hoping nothing would fall on us. Our final night was a disaster. The only restaurant that did not require reservations ended up hosting a show that evening, with no notice given to guests. We suddenly had nowhere to eat. We returned to our room and ordered food instead, but it arrived almost an hour later and by then we were already exhausted and ready to sleep. At checkout, I mentioned my disappointment about the birthday situation and asked why they bothered collecting the information if nothing would be done. The front desk simply blamed guest services. There was no empathy, no acknowledgment, no attempt to make things right. just excuses and indifference. At best, this felt like an average 3.5star experience pretending to be luxury. This is not somewhere I would return to, and unfortunately not somewhere I would recommend.

Literally go anywhere else but here. Not worth the money.

Currently staying here and would not recommend at all. Checked in with lots of insects running around our feet. Staff (eg Stanley and Kevonne) are superficially pleasant but when you ask for help you essentially get a “computer says no” response. Could not change rooms (despite being given the wrong room, and this also had a broken door, blocked toilet and insects in the room) could not provide insect repellent for the room (not us) could not provide basic toiletries - toothbrush/toothpaste, advised buy from overpriced gift shop. Could not accommodate a stop on return to airport (obviously we offered to pay for this) and constant attempts at upselling to various tours. Buffet restaurant at dinner has horrendously slow service. Go anywhere else or allow 2 hours for substandard food.

A fantastic all inclusive holiday!

We just came back from a 10 day stay at Couples and only have good things to say! The hotel itself is gorgeous. Lots of trees, right on a beach, lots of little pathways to explore around and has a real authentic feel. As other reviews mentioned there is lots of stairs to get around but it’s perfectly manageable! There are 3 pools, one in sunset beach (the au natural section), one mineral pool, and then the main pool. We spent all our time at the main pool as it’s right on the beach by the best bar. There are comfy sunbeds and umbrellas, and we never had issue a bed and some shade either by the pool or the beach. The beach itself is lovely too, and lots of free water sports options including jet skis and snorkelling out at sea! The food is also great! There’s 3 main restaurants (+ another on sunset beach for lunch only I believe). We ate in all 3 and they’re all great. The Casanova more fine dining restaurant was probs my fave, but the beach restaurant did great easy lunches, and buffet restaurant also great and lots of choice of fresh food at all meals. Drinks were great and plentiful as always in an all inclusive. Nice and strong too and the bar staff were happy to make suggestions and great drinks. As an adults “couples” only hotel, the crowd was a mix, but I’d largely on the older side, but we are in our early 30s and didn’t feel out of place! There were more couples similar age to us to, and generally everyone is super friendly and if you like having a chat on holiday it was more than easy enough to find someone to chat to! The staff were mostly all fantastic. Particularly the entertainment staff and a few standout bar staff who really made the time special with their fun and friendliness. The reception and guest services were always happy to help with any excursions, taxis etc. and housekeeping was done to a great standard and always done with a smile. We booked excursions through our Virgin rep, lots of things to do to get out and about around the beautiful island! Dunns waterfall was a highlight! We booked through virgin holidays and had the transfer included, which they booked for us through the Couples direct transfer at the airport. Very easy to find, just located the rep at the airport who signed us in. Bear in mind it’s around 1hr 45mins drive tonite airport so just bear that in mind. It’s quite a nice drive though mostly along the coast. Overall it was an amazing holiday and the hotel is a great choice for a chilled out, friendly all inclusive in a lovely country!

Meh... I should have booked elsewhere

I expected so much better... I have to agree with the other reviews that say this doesn't align with my experience and expectations for a 5* resort. Pros: - Getting there was easy, fast, and smooth :) -- The grounds are gorgeous, but there are a lot of steps so be warned! - room is a good size and very comfortable - Most of the staff is super friendly but some of them are best to avoid, especially at the excursions desk. - Suppers are good and quite enjoyable. The rest of the meals are typical resort fare. - Generally quiet and relaxing- exactly what we were looking for 💕 Cons: - brochure said things were included but they were actually only available- at a significant cost, and even that was difficult to discern because the woman at the excursions desk was borded and not really interested in us or what we might want to do. - everything says there is supposed to be an excursion to Margarita Ville included but their app says there are no dates available 🤷‍♀️ - many activities are only scheduled for 1 day/week, so if you arrive/depart that day, too bad :( - They say there are 6 restaurants but there are only 3 for supper; the rest are the same places but for lunch or snack bars - check in was smooth but while I was told that what I requested wasn't available in my room category, I wasn't offered the opportunity to upgrade. It might not have been available at all, to be fair. We booked an ocean view suite - and we can see it, if we stand at the edge of the balcony 🙄 I wouldn't have paid for an upgrade if I had known that's what we were going to get - they asked if this was for an occasion at every turn. We shared with everyone that it was our 25th wedding anniversary yesterday, but I have no idea why they asked - they didn't do anything. - Major updates and renos needed - the pools arr chipped the windows are warped, everything could use a fresh coat of paint. This place is AGING and not in great repair. I didn't expect perfect but I expected a 5* resort worth what I paid for it. This isn't someplace I'd return to or recommend so far. I'll see how I feel at the end of my stay.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit as part of our stay at Couples Tower Isle. We only had about 3/4 of a day to spend on the resort but enjoyed our time by the pool & on the beach. A big thank you to everyone who helped us while at the resort! The food & drinks were good. Lots of steps & climbing, but that was ok w/ us👍🏻.

"What a great experience we had at the Sans Souci Resort and Spa. This resort was very luxurious, and we were very pampered from the moment we arrived."
