Beautiful Resort with Incredible Service, Great Food, and One of the Best Spa Experiences We’ve Ever Had

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 17 hours ago

My wife and I recently stayed at Couples Sans Souci for our 20th anniversary and had a wonderful experience overall. The resort has a unique charm compared to many larger all-inclusive properties. It feels intimate, relaxed, and incredibly scenic. While there were a few areas we felt could be improved, the positives far outweighed the negatives and we would gladly return. SUMMARY Couples Sans Souci is a beautiful, laid-back resort that excels in service, accommodations, and guest experience. The property isn’t perfect, but it delivers a relaxing Caribbean vacation with some standout amenities and staff members who genuinely care about making your stay special. PROS Penthouse Oceanview Room (D303) Our Penthouse Oceanview room was immaculate and easily one of the highlights of the trip. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and featured breathtaking ocean views. The balcony was enormous—without question the largest private balcony we’ve ever had at a resort—and became one of our favorite places to relax throughout the stay. Room Service & Special Requests This was the most consistent room service experience we’ve ever had at an all-inclusive resort. Orders were delivered correctly, requests were handled promptly, and everything arrived in a timely manner. Whether it was room service or a special request, the staff delivered every time. The Food The food was surprisingly good and well above average for an all-inclusive property. We enjoyed multiple restaurants throughout the week and consistently found the quality, presentation, and variety to be better than what we’ve experienced at many comparable resorts. Spa & Massage Experience The spa was outstanding. The massage treatment areas are located in private open-air gazebo-style structures perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Between the views, the sound of the waves, and the constant sea breeze, the setting itself was therapeutic before the massage even began. It was one of the most memorable spa experiences we’ve had anywhere. The Grotto & Sauna Having complimentary access to both the grotto and sauna was a fantastic perk. We visited each twice during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed them every time. These unique amenities help set Couples Sans Souci apart from many other Caribbean resorts. CONS Inconsistent Hours & Service Availability One frustration was the inconsistency of some of the resort’s operating hours. Java often didn’t open until around 10:00 a.m., the juice bar frequently wasn’t available until late afternoon, and the martini bar sometimes appeared open but wasn’t staffed. None of these were major issues individually, but together they created some confusion during the week. Pool Options If you’re primarily a “pool person,” this may not be your ideal resort. There is really only one pool area that consistently offers full bar service. Unfortunately, that pool tended to be quite warm and didn’t offer the best ocean views compared to other areas of the property. Beach lovers will likely be very happy, but pool-focused guests may want more options. Nightly Entertainment The nightly entertainment was probably the weakest aspect of our stay. It wasn’t terrible, but it felt dated and in need of a refresh. Because the resort is smaller and more intimate, it sometimes felt like the entertainment team was trying too hard to create large-scale productions that didn’t quite fit the overall atmosphere of the resort. STANDOUT STAFF Shenae Our orientation guide and member of the entertainment team. She was energetic, knowledgeable, and able to answer every question we had. Her enthusiasm made a great first impression and helped us quickly get comfortable with the resort. Jacqlyn Our housekeeper was exceptional. Not only did she keep our room spotless, but she also decorated it for our anniversary and consistently went above and beyond throughout our stay. Camille Our server both evenings at Casanova Restaurant. She was friendly, professional, and attentive. What impressed us most was that she remembered several of our food and drink preferences when we returned for a second dinner later in the week. Tamesha Our server at Bella Vista Restaurant. She was warm, attentive, and offered excellent recommendations that ended up being some of our favorite meals of the trip. FINAL THOUGHTS Couples Sans Souci isn’t the newest or flashiest resort in Jamaica, but it offers something many larger resorts struggle to provide: a relaxed atmosphere, personalized service, beautiful accommodations, and a genuinely memorable guest experience. Between the stunning ocean views, excellent food, incredible spa, and exceptional staff, we left feeling refreshed and well cared for. We would absolutely return and would happily recommend Couples Sans Souci to couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway in Ocho Rios.

Fabulous Sans Souci we love you

We should have been in the Maldives but we was unable to go to due the war in the Middle East . We had booked to go to Tower island but after 4 days we asked to move to Sans Souci after a Hotel swap for the day we asked to move and so happy to return. We feel we had come home what a welcome by staff thank you so much for the letting us return . The beach was as beautiful as ever with new sun bed cushions arriving while we were there. The beach room was absolutely beautiful on block B. We really enjoyed Casanova restaurant but sadly Palazzini in the evening had a limited menu and had a few disappointing meals. Breakfast was great with the lovely Carol cooking the eggs and Omelettes. The lake was absolutely beautiful. Thank you to Dwight in the water sports who was super helpful and took us out on the hobbi Cat . I really enjoyed guess keep fit instructors Maria water Zumba and Alexis aerobics and the Yoga Majji thank you . We really enjoyed the Jamaican night, however we were kind of shocked because usually the food goes all the way around like a horse shape and this time it was just one side of the field maybe less guests this time ?. I enjoyed my facial but at $184 is every expensive: We know that things are expensive but felt the food offerings were not up to standard as this was out 5 th time and it’s so expensive to come to Jamaica from The uk . Things for improvement food the evening meals if you visiting for 2 weeks limited offerings to be honest. We’ve been coming for five years over a 10 year period and Couples need to change it evening entertainment format it’s the same women’ Singers singing the same songs prince Alicia Keys, Wintney Huston etc most people when they go on holiday they want to dance and if you’re visiting Jamaica, we want lots of reggae nights not just one reggae night as per the offering here . But we absolutely love Sans Souci and will hopefully return . Things for improvement entertainment lots of similar women singers Power ballads so boring we are on holiday we want to dance . People come to Jamaica to listen to reggae music which is missing here please please review your entertainment. We have been coming to San Souci for five years and each time it’s been the same format if want us repeaters to return please review. We missed Pierre and the new general manager we only saw once when we were here last year we saw Pierre every day walking around and checking things maybe that’s why things weren’t as good this year . Also Wayne the food and beverage manager we saw you out and about on your Segway every day last year this year I think we only saw about three times. Don’t let things deteriorate. Saying that please go you will enjoy as we did . Love you Sans Souci . Alison and Will Mitchell block B 2201 thank you .

Average Resort, Luxury Pricing and Disappointing Execution

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I wish I had booked another resort like the Excellence resorts I usually stay at, because this was a very low-quality experience for what is marketed as a 5-star hotel. There were a lot of promises, but throughout the stay it constantly felt like they were looking for ways to make more money off guests instead of actually delivering a premium experience. The grounds are beautiful, but there are an overwhelming amount of stairs everywhere. It would be extremely difficult for pregnant women, elderly guests, or anyone with knee issues. Yes, they offer shuttle service, but you constantly have to call and wait for it, which becomes frustrating very quickly when you just want to move around freely. Some positives: The room was spacious and comfortable. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The resort is generally quiet and relaxing. The evening events like the jamaica night party was okay However, the negatives outweighed the positives for us. The resort is about two hours from the airport, which becomes exhausting after a long flight. Check-in was disorganized and disappointing. I noted on the form that we were celebrating my birthday, and I also mentioned it directly to the front desk staff. Nothing was done. No birthday wishes, no small gesture, no drink, no surprise, absolutely nothing. I honestly don’t understand why they ask for this information if they have no intention of acknowledging it. The food was underwhelming overall. Dinner was decent at best, but nothing memorable or luxurious. Breakfast and lunch felt very basic, and simple things like burger buns were often stale and hard. The excursions desk was one of the worst parts of the experience. The woman there came across dismissive and unhelpful, and many things advertised in the brochure as “included” actually came with significant extra costs. It felt misleading and difficult to understand what was truly part of the package. Another major disappointment was the restaurant situation. They advertise six restaurants, but in reality only about three were actually available, and two of those required reservations well in advance. Imagine arriving on day one and suddenly realizing your dining options are already limited. Another issue we dealt with was the amount of flying insects around the property, especially near the stairways leading to the rooms. Unfortunately, they also found their way into the rooms themselves. It was very uncomfortable and something we dealt with for about four out of the five nights we stayed there. The property itself also needs major updates and renovations. Parts of our room looked worn down, and there was even an area in the ceiling/pop section that looked like it had water damage. We were literally hoping nothing would fall on us. Our final night was a disaster. The only restaurant that did not require reservations ended up hosting a show that evening, with no notice given to guests. We suddenly had nowhere to eat. We returned to our room and ordered food instead, but it arrived almost an hour later and by then we were already exhausted and ready to sleep. At checkout, I mentioned my disappointment about the birthday situation and asked why they bothered collecting the information if nothing would be done. The front desk simply blamed guest services. There was no empathy, no acknowledgment, no attempt to make things right. just excuses and indifference. At best, this felt like an average 3.5star experience pretending to be luxury. This is not somewhere I would return to, and unfortunately not somewhere I would recommend.

Literally go anywhere else but here. Not worth the money.

Currently staying here and would not recommend at all. Checked in with lots of insects running around our feet. Staff (eg Stanley and Kevonne) are superficially pleasant but when you ask for help you essentially get a “computer says no” response. Could not change rooms (despite being given the wrong room, and this also had a broken door, blocked toilet and insects in the room) could not provide insect repellent for the room (not us) could not provide basic toiletries - toothbrush/toothpaste, advised buy from overpriced gift shop. Could not accommodate a stop on return to airport (obviously we offered to pay for this) and constant attempts at upselling to various tours. Buffet restaurant at dinner has horrendously slow service. Go anywhere else or allow 2 hours for substandard food.

A fantastic all inclusive holiday!

We just came back from a 10 day stay at Couples and only have good things to say! The hotel itself is gorgeous. Lots of trees, right on a beach, lots of little pathways to explore around and has a real authentic feel. As other reviews mentioned there is lots of stairs to get around but it’s perfectly manageable! There are 3 pools, one in sunset beach (the au natural section), one mineral pool, and then the main pool. We spent all our time at the main pool as it’s right on the beach by the best bar. There are comfy sunbeds and umbrellas, and we never had issue a bed and some shade either by the pool or the beach. The beach itself is lovely too, and lots of free water sports options including jet skis and snorkelling out at sea! The food is also great! There’s 3 main restaurants (+ another on sunset beach for lunch only I believe). We ate in all 3 and they’re all great. The Casanova more fine dining restaurant was probs my fave, but the beach restaurant did great easy lunches, and buffet restaurant also great and lots of choice of fresh food at all meals. Drinks were great and plentiful as always in an all inclusive. Nice and strong too and the bar staff were happy to make suggestions and great drinks. As an adults “couples” only hotel, the crowd was a mix, but I’d largely on the older side, but we are in our early 30s and didn’t feel out of place! There were more couples similar age to us to, and generally everyone is super friendly and if you like having a chat on holiday it was more than easy enough to find someone to chat to! The staff were mostly all fantastic. Particularly the entertainment staff and a few standout bar staff who really made the time special with their fun and friendliness. The reception and guest services were always happy to help with any excursions, taxis etc. and housekeeping was done to a great standard and always done with a smile. We booked excursions through our Virgin rep, lots of things to do to get out and about around the beautiful island! Dunns waterfall was a highlight! We booked through virgin holidays and had the transfer included, which they booked for us through the Couples direct transfer at the airport. Very easy to find, just located the rep at the airport who signed us in. Bear in mind it’s around 1hr 45mins drive tonite airport so just bear that in mind. It’s quite a nice drive though mostly along the coast. Overall it was an amazing holiday and the hotel is a great choice for a chilled out, friendly all inclusive in a lovely country!
