Remota in Patagonia, Chile

Architect Germán del Sol took inspiration from the daily life of Patagonia and based the design of Remota on the buildings in which the sheep farm workers live. To minimize its footprint, Remota uses sustainable practices, locally sourced materials and available resources – light from the continuous vertical windowpanes provides both visibility and warmth, and also contributes to the design scheme. In support of the local community, Remota aims to train and employ only local people.

Arise in a sparse, light-filled room and breathe in the vast magnificence of Patagonia from your window. Fuel up with homemade baked goods before setting out on the day's adventure. Take advantage of being at the crossroads of Patagonia and hike unmarked trails through the peaks of Torres del Paine National Park to picnic alongside ice formations or trek through the wild horse habitats of the Sierra Baguales and hunt for fossils. Debrief at the Remota bar before a meal of Chilean flavors and organic ingredients. Enjoy a candle-lit massage and a dip in the outdoor whirlpool before a rest well earned.

Remota is a truly exceptional hotel, with a terrific in house restaurant. The hotel and its property are gorgeous, and the pool/spa area very relaxing…especially after a long hike or tour. We didn’t book the all inclusive packages, so relied on outside tour companies for our excursions. We were often the last pickup/first drop-off given the more out of town location, which was nice. Don’t forget to stock up on any desired necessities in town though, as it’s a long walk or short taxi ride back into town. We didn’t realize that and had little water for our trek, but the hotel graciously stocked us up for no charge. The breakfast was pretty good, but usually didn’t start until after our tours left. You can take away, though the offering isn’t as nice as what you’d get in the hotel. It was a meat and cheese sandwich with a piece of fruit. Coffee may or may not be available, depending on how early you leave, as the staff usually started setting up for breakfast about 30 minutes prior to it (either 6:30 or 7, depending on the day). There’s a cute little gift shop in the hotel offering some artisan souvenirs if you wish, although they’re quite pricey. We loved our 4 nights at this hotel and would be grateful to visit again someday!

I would gladly recommend this very nice and spectacular hotel in Patagonia. We stayed only one night on our way to Torres del Paine, but we would gladly come back again. The architecture was modern and unique. Especially I will thank Alvaro and Zandor for their help and kindness. Kristina

We thought this was the best hotel we had stayed in on our Chile Argentina tour, we came here before and after our Torres Del Paine visit. The staff were welcoming, the bedroom was comfortable, the food was excellent and the sauna/swimming pool area were inviting. A class act.

Looked forward to staying here and in general the hotel was very good, we loved the rooms and the location, also loved the eco style of the place. The view from the room was great and they left water and some lovely truffle chocolates in the room each day, so why you ask have you not given it a great review score, well actually it would have been excellent if not for the breakfast; First morning breakfast was quite nice, but missing anything hot, maybe that was due to the early start. The next morning at 08:30, which was our last, we were met by a breakfast restaurant which had no cleared tables available with the staff just standing around as if their day was over, we had to clear a table of dirty cutlery, cups and plates then go and find some clean crockery and cutlery ourselves, while the staff watched on, eventually after we had done this a waiter turned up and supplied us with a cold cup of tea. Unfortunately it does not get any better, the buffet breakfast was pretty much void of any food, in the hot containers there was no bacon left apart from a few dried up scraps and also there was only a small amount of dried up scrambled egg. Ok you think maybe there was some cold meats and such like, well there was but not much. So what was at first glance our favourite hotel during a tour of Chie turned out to be the worst, which was a shame.

We were there this week. First, it was recommended by Uniktour, and I am glad to have listened to them. We landed at Punta Arenas, and took a bus to go to Porto Natales, where the hotel was supposed to send someone to pick us up. It was 9 30 pm, when the bus driver stop in the middle of nowhere, telling us that there is a blockade of the road by angry citizens, and either we walked with our luggage for one hour or wait until the end, which could be very long! Luckily, Gonzalo Koo, the one who should pick us, is so smart that he took two others with their car, tracked us down, and brought us to the hotel. We had two wonderful days with Gonzalo as our guide, and Jorge as our driver, exploring by road then by boat all the region of Torres del Paine..We had never seen some one so young and so knowledgeable. We saw wild life , condors, even puma, and pieces of glaciers floated on the Grey lake. Gonzalo even took us for a short biking tour of Porto Natales. He obviously love his Patagony land, he just know every thing, from history, to fawn and flora informations of the region. At the hotel, food is tasty, and we asked to try beef, even it is not on the menu, chief cook agreed to grill two large pieces of steak with no charge! At the end, instead of taking a bus, they drive us back to Punta Arenas to catch our flight back home.
