We spent a week just relaxing and enjoying the peace and quite. The only real problem we had was getting a place to eat Valinetines night but a manager took care of the problem and everything turned out fine.

The rooms were very nice, nonetheless we chose just standard rooms without jaccuzi and other extras. Very peaceful surrounding. We really enjoyed our time at the pool, at the beach and swimming in the river. We spent amazing family time kayaking and sailing with a catamaran. Special thanks to Julio Cesar and Roy who helped us at the beach with the kayaks and catamarans. Also special thanks to the Hostesses at the International buffet Fernanda and Carolina - always very kind and smiling. Some of us enjoyed playing volleyball, other enjoyed water-aerobics, the kids loved the ice-cream and burgers by the pool :) We loved the food at the buffet and the coffee and tea in the cafe.

Enjoying another multi-week vacation at Sunset’s Hacienda Tres Rios Resort in Mexico’s beautiful Riviera Maya. The staff at this resort always makes us feel welcome, recognizing us by sight and name. It starts with a warm welcome from Concierge supervisor Andreina (Andy) Mastranza, who makes sure we are rapidly checked in as members of their premier La Herencia Club status. Customer Relations Manager, Miguel, was also available and responsive. Our ocean and beach view from the La Herencia building really makes our multi-week stay special. Every morning, we awake to an unobstructed sunrise. And every night we view the stars from our balcony. We can count on these stupendous vistas because their weather is usually balmy. Our room is kept spotless by Anayeli and her assistant Martin. She presents us with various playful folded towel figures virtually every day. They never fail to please. Butlers at the La Herencia building make every effort to make our visit as pleasurable as possible. Led by Charlie, they make sure we get our preferred liquors and assist us with poolside and beach chair reservations. When language is an issue with special requests (our Spanish is very rudimentary), they help us with our restaurant and room service orders. Rafeal adds a consistently cheerful poolside presence. He is always willing to bring us cold grapes in the middle of a hot afternoon, or to arrange to get us towels and an umbrella.

This was, by far, the WORST hotel I’ve ever been to. The service was non existent to negligent. Everywhere you turned someone was trying to sell you a timeshare stay or other activities. We were duped into what we thought was a “Mexican traditional jewelry/ silver demonstration “ into a free bus ride to a jewelry store/showroom where they expected us to buy things. There was no demonstration. The room smelled so bad that after a few days we asked for a new room and they did move us to an equally dated room. The toiletries do not include hair conditioner, and the housekeeping treated me like I was an alien when I asked everyday for conditioner, which they did not provide. The food was the WORST. How can a Mexican resort screw up Mexican food? The other restaurants were Italian which was an abomination and an “American” grill which was utterly forgettable. When we asked for the concierge to arrange a taxi for us to the airport (we asked a day ahead of time) they said they cannot help us, gave us a number to call ourselves, which was difficult because we didn’t have cellphone service. The only nice thing about the resort was the stream/river we could kayak, this was pretty. Other than that the pool was filled with middle-aged people wanting to socialize all day, no reading books or relaxing here. The beach, which may not be their fault, looked like an oil spill, not kept up and definitely not suitable for sunbathing or swimming. If you booked here, cancel now. There are so many other nicer places, I’m shocked they are still in business.

Our family enjoyed the several activities they had to offer. Their staff is great. Jose really made the difference with his great attitude. If you decide to come make sure to ask about how it’s become a sustainable hotel. It’s pretty amazing and they really don’t explain much about it.
