I can't say enough positive things about Hacienda Tres Rios, definitely a 5 star resort. The staff are absolutely amazing. They take care of every detail from housekeeping, activities, dining, and really seem to enjoy coming to work. The resort itself has the most beautiful spacious suites and the pools are never noisy and overcrowded like other resorts. It's peaceful, beautiful with amazing views, food, and staff. Diego did a great job of engaging my older teens into activities at the pool, Alejandro provided them a great Segway tour, the restraunts catered to my picky eating 6 year old and I wish I could remember the name of the female staff that constantly checked in on us the whole time we were there......Our whole family enjoyed so much, we definitely wish to come back someday!

I liked this place, as it is not a huge resort. It never felt crowded, never tons of people in the pool, and our family could always find lounges together at the pool (we had 7 with us). Plus there was never a long line at the buffet or long waits at restaurants. The service was good mostly. Only once did our dinner take forever to be served but the rest of the times was fine. Drinks are watered down depending on their bartender but that is the case when at resorts (I order a double shot if I feel that is the case). In regards to the beach, well that was a huge disappointment. There was a sulphuric smell and the water was brown, even the Member beach wasn't that good. Luckily we scheduled excursions to offset our beach time. Our kids loved the Cenote river snorkeling. The resort in some areas needs to be maintained better but it's no different than many places (if you are the type of person that nit-picks and looks to what needs to be better maintained, then you will find it). It is also confusing to which restaurants are for Members only, which then causes me to say this resort need a few more choices with restaurants. I can say that I have never been at a resort where I was so obviously excluded from certain areas. I did not like that. All in all, it was relaxing and pretty. Also, the rooms were nice (we stayed in two Junior Suits.) Bring lots of USD or Pesos so you have enough money. The ATM onsite does not give USD. One last note, they will ask you if you want to be in a timeshare presentation. This rating is just under a 4 but I didn't want to give it just a 3. It was a very good stay though.

Good feedback: - Events and activities at the resort were good. The resort activities we participated included: - Kayaking, Spanish lessons, yoga, tequila tasting, martini tasting. - Michael Jackson tribute dance show, Mayan show, Mexican Fiesta dance/musical performances. My favourite was the Michael Jackson tribute--great show! - We also participated in a tour organized by a jewellery factory that also took us to 5th Avenue (downtown) for shopping. - Food was available all the time! Buffet selection was very large. The food was mostly good. - The fitness centre was decent. The gym has a Smith machine which doubles as a squat rack, though the weight plates were limited. - It was great to be able to communicate with most of the staff in English as I have no Spanish skills. - Plenty of lounge chairs to lounge around by the pools or beach! Feedback about the staff - Service staff were all very friendly and caring. Staff almost always said "hola" when they pass by. The head waiter at the buffet restaurant was particularly friendly and provided great service. - Manuel was very friendly when I saw him at the fitness centre and my parents enjoyed his yoga classes. - The activity guides, Christian, Diego, Alejandria, and Oscar were all very friendly any time we saw them and encouraged us to come out to the various activities and events. - The bartender who lead the martini and tequila tastings was very entertaining and provided lots of interesting information. - Alex Ramos, Diana, and others at the Belong Concierge team as well as staff in Member Services listened to and handled our concerns very well. They were very patient. - The bell boys and security officer were all super helpful and friendly the whole time. Things that can improve: - Make the schedule and descriptions of resort activities/tours available online (this information was only available on paper or from the concierge). - During certain events, there were several vendors selling souvenirs. I was hesitant to walk by them, let alone browse their products, as many of them try to get your attention and are very pushy. Perhaps the resort should have a rule that vendors are not allowed to be pushy. - The furniture (most noticeably, upholstery of the chairs in the rooms and restaurants) was not in great condition. - The showers in the gym was not well stocked with toiletries. - Gym should be open 24 hours, or at least earlier than 7am. - The Mayan show was interesting, but it would have been nice to know what the show was about as many tourists are familiar with the Mayan rituals. - It would be useful to have drink menus.

We returned for the fourth time to Tres Rios in April for 1 week. Often return visits can be disappointing but that was not the case for us. The staff is exceptional! We felt welcomed, appreciated and respected. ( Honestly, we are not THAT important at home!) Hector, Oscar (concierge), Christian (canoes), serving staff in ALL of the venues and coffee bar, and all of the service staff could not be asked to do any more to make our stay better. We appreciate the measures the resort takes to protect/embrace the environment. Our room was great. Food/restaurant offerings were well prepared, tasty, and varied. Lots of things offered at the resort to do. We look forward to returning again.

They got the very enticing words to get buyers for "time share. We upgraded to to the black bracelet. They promised a free cruise, that never happened. Resort need repair and service has gone down hill. We have seen decline in service and food quality. We visited this resort on the last 3 years. Raul /carina amansec
