Low key and relaxing

The view was wonderful, grat food. Staff was terrific. There was a problem with the air conditioning. which is being resolved. Coud not as for a more unique resort. Adults only, low key, not a party resort. Awesome for relaxing and chilling out.

NOT ROYAL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 21 hours ago

We have been here several times and loved every bit of it. This time it has been a disaster. We are on day 6. Still no properly working AC in our room. It was 80 degrees in our bedroom at bedtime last night. The bathroom is significantly hotter than that. We should not be going outside in Mexico to cool down. Where is management? No apology. No offer of compensation. No care or concern for their guest. The poor staff is taking the brunt of everyone’s frustration. We should be seeing management staff and maintenance workers everywhere trying to resolve this. Thank goodness for one staff member that took pity on us and brought us a fan. We will be bringing our pillows to the lobby to sleep tonight if we are not moved to a cool room today. We are heartbroken. This was our favorite getaway.

Beautiful place

Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. Our only dissatisfaction related to the fact that air conditioning does not work well in many of the rooms. We know this because our room's A/C was terrible and other people had similar complaints. Room was damp, too warm, and had a musty odor. Everything else about Royal Hideaway was top notch.

Very nice resort in a private, gated community. The grounds are beautiful and the staff works hard to maintain it. The rooms are very nice, but are not cool in temperature by any means which is why I knocked my rating down a star. Numerous people I spoke to during my time there all had the same issue. The temperature made it difficult to sleep and unfortunately our room did not serve as a sanctuary away from the heat. We asked the concierge about it and were told that they set the AC so it won’t cool below a certain degree and unfortunately it is way too high for comfort. The only real way to be cool on the resort was to be in the pool or in the ocean. That was really our only gripe. Men…be sure to bring pants if you want to eat at the restaurants for dinner. Men must wear pants to dinner to 3 out of the 5 restaurants on the resort. We had to make a trip to the local Walmart to buy pants to be able to eat dinner some nights. The pants rule is kind of ridiculous considering how hot it is and how hot the restaurants are inside. I broke into a sweat at most dinners. The resort offers a buffet style breakfast every morning. We really enjoyed that. We ate most of our lunches pool side brought to us by servers. The pool side service was excellent. There are 5 different restaurants to eat at for dinner. A Mexican theme, an Asian theme, an Italian theme, a Mediterranean theme, and an American theme? We did not enjoy the Mexican themed restaurant, but we enjoyed the rest. They definitely try to be upscale with the exquisite, small portioned dishes. That isn’t exactly our style so we weren’t used to that, but we made it work for us. There were lots of activities offered. We really enjoyed the opportunity to do a free Scuba demo in the pool for the first time. That led to us doing our first dive in the ocean after just an hour or so of training. We highly recommend giving it a try. They also offer free use of paddle boards and hobie cat sail boats. Also near by was the ability to rent jet skis or go parasailing, or go skydiving. As far as entertainment goes, they had good poolside activities every day such as water aerobics and trivia. The resort kind of lacked in evening entertainment compared to other places we have been. There were no extravagant shows that were a must see. They mostly had instrument performers and karaoke nights. All in all, I’d say we would consider returning to this resort if they can figure out the AC situation. That really made it difficult to be comfortable. Other than that the food was decent/good and the service was excellent.

Will not return

My Fiance and I just returned from a week at Royal Hideaway and wanted to share our experience. Overall we had a great time and met some amazing people but the resort itself has many short comings. As soon as we walked into our room we noticed the door did not close completely and we could not get it to lock. We immediately called the front desk and they sent someone to try to fix it. We were unable to shower or change while they were trying to fix the door. After 20 minutes of sitting there with the maintenance worker my Fiancé grabbed the concierge and she told us they would need another 30 minutes to fix it but if we wanted to shower and stuff we could just place the “do not disturb” sign on our door and no one will come in. We explained we were not worried about staff members entering our room but other hotel guests who may have had too much to drink and mistakenly walk into our room thinking it is theirs as the door would not latch and anyone from the outside could come in. We were then thankfully moved to the open room next door. Then there is everyone’s main concern, the A/C. Our room and a lot of other guests that we were talking to had issues with it. We tried the tips of keeping the bathroom doors closed and it helped a bit but not enough to where we could comfortably be in the room relaxing or sleeping. Even some restaurants were very hot making it difficult to enjoy our meals. Our mini fridge did not keep anything cold, it seemed to be emitting heat. The hair dryer was broken and it took 3 days to get a new one. The phone in our room did not work either and we mentioned it to our concierge but nothing was done about it. Without a phone it’s difficult to order room service or anything. One night, we had reservations at Azia for 7:30pm booked by our concierge a week before we arrived. So, at 7:30 we get to the restaurant and all the lights are off and no one is inside, we then found out it is closed. We immediately go to the front desk to see what it is going on and what we could do for dinner. The head of the front desk staff and manager on duty told us we could wait until 9pm as that is the only time they can get us in at another restaurant. We explained we hadn’t eaten since 2 as we were preparing for our dinner at 7:30pm. They then told us we could go back to our room and order from a menu of any of the restaurants and eat the meal in our room. We explained how that would not be ideal for us either as we got dressed up expecting to be able to sit at a restaurant and the room is very hot and we would not be able to enjoy sitting in there eating our meal. They then were able to get us into the grill at 8:30pm and we were very grateful for that. We understand that things can happen we just wish we were made aware that the restaurant was going to be closed instead of having to find out ourselves at the time of our reservation. The food at Palazzo and Ventanas was amazing and the food at the other restaurants were ok. The service and entertainment teams were amazing! We had great drink service on the pool and beach and loved participating in the daily activities that the entertainment team put on. Overall, we still made the best of it but will most likely not return or recommend this resort to others in its current state.

Second to none. My husband and I stayed here and were so spoiled, it was very very hard to return home. Your every wish is granted and some you didn't even know you wished for. It is sophisticated and elegant with out being stuffy. The food is wonderful. Drinks are all prepared with top-shelf liquors, wines are good to very good, and champagne is always flowing. I could not imagine anyone having any complaints.
