Good but not for the price

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

We spent 10 days at this resort with a party of eight people and while there were some highs and lows, overall it was good but not worth the price. The positives: - The staff was incredibly kind! We found them to be very hospitable and focused on service! - The rooms are very spacious and beds are super comfortable with solid AC. - Room service was always delivered hot and while the menu selection wasn’t robust, it was decent. - The pool was very nice with lots of various areas however we were waking up at 6:30 just to secure chairs as the demand was very high. - The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. - WiFi coverage was excellent both in the room and across the property. It did get slow by the pool when all the people were trying to use it. - My wife and I both used the spa. I had a great therapist while she had a mediocre one. As always, the prices in these kinds of places are so high and we probably wouldn’t do a spa service again. - Entertainment is decent. Some shows are good and others not so much. The not so good: - We had bugs in our room! They were in the toilet room, the tub and on the bed! Apparently they’re a larvae of some kind but it was disgusting. Housekeeping did come and change the sheets when we found them in the bed. - After our third day and for the remainder of our stay, our hot water smelled like a petroleum product and that it was burnt. As strange as that sounds, it smelled bad. They came and did a water sample and acknowledged it smelled strange. Later they told us they used a chemical to clean the pipes which caused the smell. We still do not know what caused it. - We were on the first floor and could hear a lot of stomping and furniture movement above us. The walls on the side are great but the ceiling and floors are apparently fairly thin. - The food was decent but not great. We would recommend you steer clear of the buffets (they were horrible) and the restaurants were good. We particularly liked the Asian and steakhouse options. The French was also good. Note: there is a strict dress code at this property. Men have to wear slacks to dinner and closed toed shoes. And they will not seat you until your entire party is present. - There were strange spots on our TV. Almost like where pixels had been burned in. - When you check in, there is a push for you to buy a time share where they give you coupons when they could have been given by check-in staff in lieu of time share staff. So be ready to be sold and just say no if you don’t want it. - While this property is now part of Hyatt, because we booked our trip through Costco Travel, they did not honor our Hyatt membership. This is the first time I’ve ever had this issue and it was very disappointing. - The resort struggled to keep up with the massive amount of seaweed on the beach. It was so thick, we could not swim in the ocean. Overall we had a good time with our family and friends but wouldn’t choose to come back to this property because of the high cost vs value

Amazing Experience/Service

My wife and I stayed at the Secrets at Maroma Resort and we were blown away. The resort was outstanding. Everything was very well maintained and bulit. Very easy to get around the resort. The room we stayed in was amazing. Super spacious and fantastic amenities. It was worth every penny and we were already planning our next trip to come back! Roger Arroyo (our buildings concierge contact) was phenomenal. His service level was excellent and was extremely helpful with any request we made. He was very attentive and responsive and did everything to make our honeymoon memorable and special. 10/10 would recommend visiting.

A Concierge Unlike Any Other

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

As a couple that has stayed at many resorts over the years including tons of Sandals resorts, we were blown away at the service of this resort. I would personally like to shout out Hector Arenas. He is the concierge in Villa 14. I have never in my life seen a level of service that Hector provided, and I work in the service industry. Hector has every name memorized in his villa, and he goes out of his way every day to either find you at the pool or the beach and make sure that your day is accommodated to the highest level. Everything was so thought out and he made us feel like we were the only people at the entire resort. Hector Arenas is the reason we will come back to this resort, and with extra people this time. I would also like to give a shout out to Manuel the beach concierge, and Balbina who were both amazing at their jobs and became friends over our 6 days there. Thank you so much Secrets Maroma. You are the hidden gem of Cancun. We are loyal now. Jesse and Morgan: Room 1439

Great value, relaxing time and overall A+ stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at Secrets Maroma and will most likely be back next time we visit the Cancun area. It was really the easy button for a relaxing stay, and great vibe. All of the staff were friendly. A few observations: 1. Similar restaurants as all of the rest of the all inclusive resorts, but each was a step up from what we had at other resorts. 2. The Preferred Package was great. Additional restaurants, beach area and lounge were good perks. The absolute best part was the concierge for our building 25 - Roberto. He made sure we knew what was going on for the day, and seaked us out everyday to ensure every part of the stay was exemplary. 3. Also wanted to give a shout out to the hardest working and best swim up bartender -Gonzalo, or Mr. G as he introduced himself. He needs an upgrade to "Dr. G". Great drinks, fun to talk to and made sure all was good. 4. We didn't make it to much of the evening entertainment. Did catch a band in the Prefered Lounge that was fun. Also had a few musicians performing during the morning and afternoon. 5. Spa was incredible, definitely worth what we spent for the 50 min massage, which included the sauna, steam room and relaxing pool area before the message. 6. Room was great, clean, well kept and stock nightly. Quiet too. We were on 4th floor. I can see that the 1st floor rooms may be noisier, but not sure. Nothing really bothered us from our location - pool, music, etc. 7. No one was pushing upgrades or upsells. A simple no thank you and that was the end of any ask. Vendors on the resort didn't try to bother you.

5 STAR STAFF

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

Where do I begin? Everything about Secrets Maroma Beach is amazing ! This is our fifth visit to the resort. We did a private transfer with Kalido Travel, and they were once again great. I highly recommend them On the first day we ran into a familiar face and friend we had met on previous trips Bramdon Gomez, he welcomed us home with a big hug and smile. Although Bramdon is now the building concierge in #27 he still checked on us daily at the pool to make sure we had everything we needed, he also had Gatorade sent to our chairs when I needed some additional hydration and had a special pizza prepared for my husband since he is a big pizza lover. He truly is an asset to Secrets Maroma and goes above and beyond to help please the customer and make you feel so special. We met our concierge Francie in Building 24 when we arrived and she was very friendly and helpful throughout the week, she helped with our Himitsu reservation, specific mini fridge requests as well as made sure she sent some Gatorade, ginger ale and crackers to the room when I was not feeling well. The pool concierges were all great starting with Edy (who we remembered from the past trip) as well as Manuel, Ezekial and Luis—they would greet me each morning and we would chat and check on us throughout the day to see if we needed anything at all. We had two rockstar pool servers Eder and I believe Ismar (not sure on her spelling) that were excellent, they provided outstanding service each day. If you see Eder, ask for a “Canelo Special” As you can see the staff is what stands out at this resort and there are so many people that are wonderful it’s hard to remember all the names. A couple standout performers from the preferred club and/or lobby bar were Jessica, Carly and Estrella—all were extremely efficient, friendly, and always asking if there was anything else they could provide. We loved some of the new renovations including the preferred club, Oceania, Seaside, Desires and theater were all beautiful and nicely done. it certainly enhances the resort and vibe. We look forward to some of the upcoming renovations including an additional pool and updating the Sugar Reef (sports bar) I know we missed some people but thanks to the entire team at Secrets Maroma you are truly outstanding and one of the main reasons we continue to come back.
