if you are looking for a place to rest and have a BEAUTIFUL beach to lay down while enjoying good food (nothing extraordinary), then Secrets is a good place to go. The rooms are nice, nothing fancy, the service and attention of the Concierges is very good. The Spa is new and is really good.

It's a great hotel, few people, relaxed environment, however, you have less than 15 minutes in the venue and staff is annoying you with private club services that you didn't ask, this kind of services needed to be offered at the end, and just if you asked!

After reading the reviews for Secrets Maroma Beach, I think maybe my expectations were high because I definitely didn't think this was a 5-star hotel. Our visit was from Visited Oct 31 - Nov 7, 2017. Customer Service: I do give high points for customer service. All employees (the wait staff, receptionist at check-in/out, concierge, etc.) were always respectful and attentive. All of the staff's English here was exceptional. Though I adore the Mexican culture and would have at least liked to be greeted in Spanish. Sounds a little odd, I know. Beach: Playa Maroma is just beautiful. The sand is powder soft and no rocks anywhere. You can jump in the ocean without the worry of stubbing your toe. The time we were there, we never had trouble finding chairs. There were plenty of waiters to bring you fresh drinks and lunch. Rooms: We had a junior suite swimout. This is where I am deducting points. The rooms were average (though it appears the hotel is remodeling many of the rooms). Our room seemed a little dated - definitely nothing special about the room itself. The bed was sunk in. We had the swimout room and enjoyed it very much in the late afternoon when we wanted to get away from other people. Even though about 6-8 rooms had access to the smaller pool, it seemed we were the only two to use it - it was like having our own private pool. Maid service was awesome. Restaurants: This is where the hotel is definitely lacking and they need to revamp the menus or recipes or something. We ate at the Italian, French, Mexican, Seafood, Japanese, and Habachi restaurants. My favorites were the Japanese and Habachi. The rest were just average and somewhat bland. Secrets Maroma should learn from their sister hotel Secrets the Vine and maybe steal some of their recipes and menus. The plus side is you never need to make reservations for the restaurants in advance. My husband's favorite was the brick oven pizza for lunch near the pool. Breakfast/lunch buffet has a very basic selection. Hotel Grounds/Decor/Pool: I enjoyed the hotel grounds. It was very zen like and landscaped beautifully. Decor in the lobby and restaurants was a bit dated but always clean. Pool was very nice. There is swim up bar and bathrooms at the pool/beach were exceptionally clean. Timeshare: As soon as you check in they ship you to a sales guy wanting you to do the timeshare presentation (though it isn't called a timeshare these days). We politely declined twice and then he freed us without bothering us again which was nice. All and all, the staff is great, the hotel is clean, the beach is beautiful but I think for the price, there are much nicer hotels with better food and rooms. I just wasn't wowed.

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach from Nov 11 to Nov 18, 2017, with its beautifully manicured beach from constant care of the fantastic, soft, white sand. Can't do anything about the weather, thunderstorm one night, rain most of the next day, but, pretty much perfect the rest of the time with 82 degrees every day. Staff was very good. Everyone, even the gardeners, greet you in passing. I believe that a good or bad (indifferent) staff will make or break a resort. I will return or not return because of it! Robert, our concierge, just couldn't have been better! Not only does he call you by name when he sees you (I don't know how he remembers everyone with so many passing through the days), he is always available to solve any problems and give information you might have missed! Without him, we would not have known we could have breakfast every day at the Oceana Restaurant where we met Alba, a hostess, who also has a great memory, and Alberto and Carlos, our great waiters. They, too, have great memories about your likes and dislikes, and are sure to make sure you have everything you want! Brandon, pool concierge, was helpful making sure your lounge bed was made and your umbrella was strategically placed against the sun's rays if needed. Lucas made sure your thirst was cared for! A couple of waitresses at the Lobby Bar that need to be applauded are Zacnicte and Neydi. Again, very astute as to your needs, and always with a big smile. I did feel that there could be more lighting on the paths at night. Although they are wide and smooth without areas that could be unsafe, they were a bit dark in some areas. I have had both knees replaced and hips are next so must be a bit more careful! We had Preferred Club service, but out room was across the resort from the Club room with more walking. I know it would be difficult to provide transportation within the resort, but it WOULD make it easier!!! Our maid service was flawless; however, the beds are a bit hard and also very high and difficult to get into!! Entertainment was good. We didn't really enjoy the Rock Show. I've seen much better, but the talented acrobatic shows and other entertainment more than compensate! Although we looked at the spa, we did not use it. Would I return? Yes, you bet! Again, great staff! And, food and drinks were great!
