It is an awesome resort, beautiful gardens and unbeatable beach. Very up to the "Secrets Resort" standards. Quality of the food is good and the service you would find is great, like Luis a waiter on the Italian Restaurant. Ask for a dinner in "The Cava", is gorgeous. Entertainment team is excellent and they do a great job with the shows and daily activities. They also have some variations with thematic dinners and shows, besides the typical restaurants. Now, there are things that can be improved, hotel is not very new and not very practical in some ways, for example, very limited restrooms in restaurants, only one for men and one for women for two restaurants!! It's ridiculous! they must solved that soon. Also, seating in restaurants is limited and sometimes waiting time can be extensive. All the service in the Oceana/Seaside Grill was always extremely slow!! Not sure what is the problem in that kitchen but no matter if it was for breakfast (Preferred only), lunch or for dinner it was always very slow service, you get tired of being sitting there! Who knows if it's part of the strategy on this all inclusive resorts.. to be slow. SPA is really good but also very expensive, yes, even with the special offers and discounts it's still very expensive. For the price of the hotel, which is not cheap, I wish they could include better top shelf drinks.. they have the standard and then you have to pay for other special tequilas, etc... Wine bottles are also very expensive. Internet doesn't work very well. Out of that I enjoy this hotel, I would go again... but it is always hard to decide between this one and Secrets Akumal, which is very similar but new.

The food was superb. Our favorite was the seafood restaurant in the pool area. The staff was extremely attentive to all of our needs I would highly recommend this resort to all no matter what your age The entertainment was first class also.

Stayed for four nights, was not impressed at all with the vacation membership pitch we were hit with upon check-in. Took 30 minutes to get the guy to understand we were not interested and get on with our vacation. Staff was friendly and attentive although twice we did not receive turn-down service after requested. Everyone seemed happy to be there and willing to do whatever you asked. I was put off by a few of the cooks at Barefoot Grill however when they started making fun of the guest in front of me for how he spoke, totally unprofessional and made me think twice about requesting anything for fear of being ridiculed for it. Rooms were clean and comfortable, had more than enough amenities/towels, etc. my only complaint was the frosted glass door to the toilet. The whole room is open to the bathroom and said frosted door has a large cut-out for the handle so anything going on in the toilet is not so secret. Mini bar comes stocked with beer, juice, soda and water, no snacks (so we just ordered room service often). Beach was outstanding, free of seaweed and when it did wash up on windy days they were cleaning it up quite efficiently. Umbrella covered chairs on the beach are first come first serve and we never had a problem finding a decent location. We did not rent the private cabana but did check it out and to be honest, the beach chairs looked more comfortable with wet sand, etc. Food was the major disappointment of the resort. The only restaurant we did not visit was Oceana. Breakfast buffet was my top pick, make sure you go to the quesadilla or huevos rancheros stations, much better than an omelette you can get any day of the week elsewhere. Tons of fresh exotic fruit and fruit juices, really nice after drinking the night before, every pastry you can think of and random odds and ends. The Italian place was the best feature restaurant in my opinion, the lasagna was good, small portions, a half green tomato was used was for the caprese salad. Tomato soup was divine and listen when I tell you, I HATE tomato soup, tried my husband's and wished I had ordered that instead! Melted salmon was also good. The French place was lacking in quality, the filet I had should have been tender but this was quite chewy, cooked perfectly to my request though. The Japanese place was AWFUL. Like, horrible, I cringe every time I think of it and the "veal satay" appetizer. I know it's their most popular restaurant (I think more for the cooking show though) but save yourself the trouble and just don't do it. Or do it and try for yourself, it's "free" after all. Drinks are weak but you have options here: tip well and ask for doubles, drink twice as much, or ask for a shot on the side and mix it in yourself (which works out quite nicely). This was our first time to an adults-only resort and we loved it, more than we thought, it'll be hard to go back to family friendly places. We heard no construction that is apparently going on BUT it is still very noisy. As in, there seems to be no insulation and every time room service or the luggage cart would go by it would make the loudest ruckus. Naps were not happening in our room. We called the concierge at one point but nothing was done about it, which I understand why, but the volume seemed a little ridiculous.

Secrets Maroma is a pretty awesome place. The beach is beautiful, the staff is incredibly friendly and very service oriented. Roger, our concierge for both of our trips, is always there to take care of all of our needs and to offer a friendly greeting. The only complaints I have, are the same ones from our first trip. 1. The wine - i know since it is all-inclusive, it is not going to be the best, but the wine offered was not very good. 2. The beef - probably the worst steaks I have ever had, were at Secrets. 3. The dive shop - two trips - two cancellations, and not much enthusiasm about offering alternatives. That being said, I still had a great time and would return again. I had many great meals (sans the beef), I spent a little $$ on better wine, and I learned that the diving is not a priority for Cancun. We loved everything about this resort. The food was great and the people are always willing to help make your stay perfect. Entertainment was also very enjoyable. There are plenty of places to go to be alone but there are also place to be if you want to talk to others.
