Amazing Solo Bday Trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 hours ago

I traveled for the first time solo to Secrets which is known for romance/ couple getaways but never as a solo traveler felt out of place or unwelcome. Greeted with remarkably cool towel and “Welcome Home”, as well as my first drink was a great way to kick off my birthday. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate (except when I asked for a kiwi margarita🤣) and continually pampered and catered / met every need. I was Preferred club and stayed in Building 25, with Roberto as my concierge. He greeted me promptly upon arrival in my room, walked me thru the room, preferred benefits. He also booked the Bali bed & all my spa services, notifed them of my birthday which made the services extra special. His attentiveness and follow ups to all request was exactly what I needed my birthday weekend. Highly recommend! The room was cleaned everyday, refreshed at night and the staff worked hard. The spa was phenomenally relaxing- I’m glad I listened to the reviews. My massage was so relaxing and a great reset. Lily performed my make up and mini facial and explained every step without trying to oversell the products, and my make up came out flawless! Preferred club was 100% worth it. The lounge alone for provided the absolute best and freshest drinks, and the conversations with the bartenders and other members were always nice. I didn’t eat there often but fresh fruit and chia seed pudding was great post workout, and they had delicious salmon and beef skewers. The Preferred beach club= most efficient with drinks. Though I rotated the same drinks throughout the resort, the preferred beach club seemed to be less sweet. I would have appreciated loungers with cushions but service was the best in the resort. The preferred resturant was good, however I only ate there once for lunch. The short walk from the room to the beach & lounge were nice, as well as the upgrades that came with Prefeered (upgrading massage, etc) Restaurants - Portofino (Italina) - My favorite. I dined here my first night. Bernardo & co. made it a seamless and quiet experience. The beef carpaccio & lamb osso busco 10/10 Bourdeaux (French) - Birthday dinner was here . The beef tartare was remarkable. The filet with shrimp were great, well cooked. Kitmu (Teppenyaki) - great show & good food. They give you just enough. Flavorful and well rounded . Buffet- I attended breakfast here everyday. Always an assortment of fresh fruit and veggies, atleast 2-3 meat options including non pork , 2 omelette stations, smoothie station. Activities I actually never made it to any of the shows but I did catch the live pianist, singing / guitar duet, and sprinkles of pool activities like fun hour. aqua aerobics was always packed, as was the gym(but you can still find something to do). Casino night was great, silent disco was a hit, and so was karaoke. They always had fresh food by the pools, and differnt stands depending on the day (coconut / pineapple fresh, Texas de Brazil, tacos etc) Retailers on the beach weren’t pushy or frequent, which I liked. The resort was beautiful and just big enough to interact with others, but also have space and peace as an introvert. Everyone was friendly, always willing to talk & just good company. 10/10 Personnel! Roberto: concierge in building 25 Ceasar: Bell Hop Julio & Eduardo : UVC sales person Manuel : preferred beach waiter Bernado : Waiter @ portofino Angel : bartender preferred club lounge Alejandro & Gina : breakfast buffet Lily : Spa Danielle : concierge I’ll be back in the summer!

This is a beautiful resort with the most friendly staff. Shout out to the BEST pool server Miguel. He greets you with a smile and you never have to wait for anything. He remembers your name and your order daily. We have been to several Secret resorts and have never had someone as special as Miguel. He is the reason we will be back. Ruben at the Barefoot grill will make you an amazing lunch and snack that won’t disappoint. Our concierge, Roberto, greeted us every day by name with the activities for the day and made sure our room was stocked with anything we needed. We were disappointed in the Preferred Club check in. It is beside the regular check in and when declining the timeshare presentation were left to explore the resort on our own. We found out that there was a Preferred Club restaurant tucked away behind the pools on our third day. If you are there to relax then this is your kind of resort. The music is very boring except when water aerobics is going on. If you are looking for a more upbeat atmosphere this is not the resort for you.

Wonderful vacation!

My husband and I just returned from a week-long vacation at Secrets Maroma. The room was comfortable, the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Few minor annoying things like restaurants closing randomly and the light flashing on the fire alarm in the room. These are minor. Food portions were reasonable and everything we had was truly delicious. Special shoutout to staff who made our stay enjoyable: waiters at breakfast buffet, Victor and Wilberth by the infinity pool, and Dante at the Mexican restaurant. After going to several resorts in the area, this one stood out for food, service and gorgeous views and the white sandy beach. The resort truly makes an effort to clean out the sargassum and it shows. Resort is very clean overall and well-run. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing adults-only getaway.

Near close to perfect!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach as a group of eight (parents, siblings, and partners), and from start to finish it was a trip we’ll be talking about for a long time. Was it absolutely flawless? No. Would we go back in a heartbeat? Abso-freaking-lutely. What Made It Special: If there’s one thing this resort absolutely nails, it’s the service. It’s not just good—it’s the kind of consistently high, thoughtful service that genuinely elevates the whole experience. And the biggest reason for that? The people: - The entertainment team were brilliant, and Uriel deserves a huge shoutout. He brought energy, fun, and personality every single day and made a real effort to get to know us. He didn’t just do his job—he made the holiday better. - Our concierge, Francia, was an absolute star. Nothing was ever too much trouble, everything was handled quickly, and always with a smile. She made everything feel seamless. - The pool staff (we were based around the seaside garden/gazebo area) were spot on—attentive, friendly, and somehow always there at the right moment without ever being overbearing. Safe to say, empty glasses were a rare occurrence. - There’s also so much to do. Whether it was the evening shows, pool volleyball, archery, painting, or heading out on kayak tours, there was always something going on. It gave the whole trip a great balance of relaxation and activity—perfect for a group like ours. - The food deserves serious credit too. We made it our mission to try every restaurant, and honestly, not one meal disappointed. The hibachi night was a standout (both for the food and the experience), and Darwin made it even better. Across all venues, the staff really went out of their way to accommodate us—which we appreciated, especially as a larger group. A Few Small Niggles: - The air conditioning in my room was noticeably louder than in the others. Ours sounded like a plane was taking off in our room. It took a few attempts to get it sorted, but once Francia stepped in, things moved quicker. It improved, but never quite matched the rest of the group’s rooms. One reception interaction along the way wasn’t the most helpful, which stood out given how great everyone else was. - Getting a table for eight wasn’t always easy, so we were sometimes split into two tables of four. Not a huge issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re travelling as a bigger group. - We had initially thought there is complimentary green fees included with our booking (due to information on the travel agents website), but it isn’t—and it’s fairly pricey. - Water sports are run by a third party. The included options are great (kayaks, paddleboards, sailing), but the weather limited access, and there was a bit of a push toward paid motorised options when we did go out. - Out of Their Hands: The weather didn’t fully play ball. It was warm, but quite windy most days, plus one full day of heavy rain. The wind also brought in a fair amount of seaweed, which meant the beach wasn’t as usable as we’d hoped. The Bottom Line: No holiday is ever perfect—but this one came pretty close in all the ways that matter. The atmosphere, the staff, the food, and the overall experience completely outweighed the few minor hiccups. We left relaxed, happy, and already talking about coming back—and that says it all.
