Overview of first holiday without children

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

Sorry for long post but might be helpful for some: Went down to Gatwick and stayed overnight before flight at Crowle Plaza- excellent service, room, food and holiday parking Flight out- London Gatwick British Airways. Overnight delay and put up in hotel- not a great start but communication from BA and overnight accommodation in Hilton was efficient and well communicated. Flight itself - room in economy - terrible- seats too narrow and row in front way to close for long haul. In flight service good, but would avoid BA and this plane for long haul given the option again Secrets Maroma- absolutely excellent levels of service from all staff at all levels- loved the sunglasses cleaning! Drinks are top shelf if you want them, good cocktail list, room was huge with big balcony- standard room not swim out or preferred. Excellent cleaning and towel replacement and choice of what want in minibar. Let them know if there is a celebration- we got some fizz in the room. Minimal sea view but gardens are lovely. Food excellent choice, preparation and display. All individual dining options were great, the rib eye is awesome at Seaside Grill and sushi at Himitsu are great. Beach is great, nice and quiet with bar service and they do a sterling job of clearing the sargassum- loosing battle sometimes but on bad day the smell was not overwhelming and could still be on the beach. Bali heads for hire but hardly used…They provide all towels you need and will keep a log of the beds you use each day but never had any issues. Pool is great if you like a pool holiday- tended to split between a quieter one and one for those that like the pool sports and swim up bar. Background music was a bit too loud at times- think they were covering construction noise. Construction- building a new pool so would book buildings staring with ‘2’ as couldn’t really see it. There was noise but they do a great job of keeping it as minimal as possible - it didn’t affect our holiday at all. Night shows- best ever seen for skill and variety Entertainment team- awesome! Always things going on if wanted to do anything round pool and on beach. Would not hesitate to go again especially when new pool built. 4 stars due to BA flight room but hotel would be 5 stars

We had a great stay at Secrets Maroma Playa Del Carmen for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredible. The rooms were very clean & housekeeping came everyday. The entire resort is beautifully maintained. The customer service was exceptional! Every staff member was so friendly & attentive. A special thank you to Roger, our concierge, who made our stay so lovely. He was very kind & helpful & made sure that our stay was perfect throughout the week. It was the perfect place to relax & celebrate our honeymoon. We highly recommend!

Great time

Had a blast at this resort. The staff is the best, especially Roger our concierge in building 26. He was very accommodating and welcoming to us and making sure we had a good time. Also Angel on the entertainment team kept us laughing and full of activities every day! Can’t wait to come back

Beautiful Resort (except for construction), lacking in the food quality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 20 hours ago

Beautiful resort with wonderful staff. We knew the construction would be in full swing but honestly underestimated it's impact. There is a giant construction zone in the heart on the hotel grounds that was quite the blatant but was unnoticeable when sitting at the pools facing the ocean. Food was average at best. Breakfast was the best and we preferred the World Market buffet over the PC option. We tried the buffet, PC restaurant, Seaside Grill, Pizza by the pool for lunch. They were just ok . The barefoot Grill was terrible. They threw precooked burgers and hot dogs on the grill for a minute to reheat and the guy looked miserable every day. I just gave him back the plates and grabbed pizza instead (which was pretty good). every day had pop up food by the gazebo but nothing stood out and most things where just ok. Same for the dinners with the exception of Hibachi which was great and the meat portion of dinner at Seaside Grill (sides where not good). Desserts at this resort are typical cafeteria style (except the French chocolate souffle at Bordeux which was fantastic). Poolside drinks all tasted the same or where flavorless. The resort lobby is underwhelming but the ground are beautiful and once the construction is complete, I'm sure they will be spectacular. Most of the service was top notch - friendly, polite, helpful and our concierge, Guillermo, in building 17 was incredible. We've visited quite a few resorts in Cancun. Most food is average, just ok. I thought Ziva Cancun had better dinners, Live aqua's MB was very good as well and Moon Palace Cancun had the best room service food. Xcaret's Asian restaurant stands out as well. We thought the breakfast at Maroma's buffet was pretty good. I have noticed a lot less variety at adults only resorts vs family resorts. Hopefully that changes in the future.
