Outstanding property just 35 minutes from the Cancun airport. I like how it was a smaller resort and the layout of the buildings of a horseshoe made it easy to get around. We stayed in an ocean front room in building 17 and it took less than 5 minutes to walk back to the main building where most of the restaurants were. We have Guillermo as our concierge and he was AWESOME! Anything we needed he got. Asked for something to heat some water and next thing you know we had a kettle pot. Checked on us out at the beach to see if we need anything. That's the type of service that will make us come back. Not great with getting names as we were there only 5 days but I can't tell you anyone who didn't provide great service with a smile on their face. Won't hesitate to go back and hopefully soon!

We had a great time and really enjoyed this resort. We’ve been going to Secrets and Dreams resorts for 20 years. Our room (1724) was ocean front, and it was amazing. Not just the view, but the room itself and the patio tub was in great shape- not run down or old-feeling. The resort overall is in great shape and very clean. Our building concierge Guillermo did a fantastic job, constantly checking in with us in person to make sure all our needs were met, even coming down to find us on the beach. The pool chairs were mostly taken if you don’t get one early on in the day, but we like the beach and there was plenty open through the day. Marco was our favorite waiter at the beach. Be ready for a sales pitch when you get in. We didn’t expect that at all as we haven’t experienced that before. As Preferred Club guests, we felt like we should have been taken to a separate area for check in, but we were made to sit near the bar while they tried to sell us into a ‘timeshare breakfast’ sales meeting like everyone else. We were persistently offered discounts on massages or beach beds in exchange for our attendance, but we wanted none of that and kept telling the very nice person that we weren’t interested only to be offered more in exchange for signing up for the meeting. It was quite annoying. The first ‘no thanks’ should have been enough, and not surprisingly, our wait to check in was over immediately after the sales pitch concluded… It felt totally intentional. We’ve never had to wait to check into a high end resort like that. We were a bit disappointed with the preferred club bar. On our first stop by the bar when we got there, we waited for a couple minutes just to get the bartender’s attention. He didn’t even acknowledge we were there. Eventually a waiter walked behind the counter and took care of us. It wasn’t uncommon to wait like that as the only customer at the PC bar and we caught a few other couples surprised by that. Bar staff there seemed to be very preoccupied by filling orders for wait staff to take to the beach. It’s also completely open-air and therefore affected by weather and they didn’t have any better liquor than the other bars that I could tell. At the Dreams resort in Cancun we visited last time, the Preferred Club definitely felt more upscale - it was in a separate building, enclosed with exclusive food options, top shelf liquor, and waiters focused only on keeping Preferred Club guests happy. We did’t get the sense that the Preferred Club was worth it in that regard. The restaurants had fantastic food - truly great food. One exception was that I was disappointed in the sushi at Himitsu. They used to hand craft every sushi roll just like anywhere else. The spicy tuna roll was a refrigerated pre-made roll of rice with a drizzle of some tuna mix on top. Same with the salmon roll. Not good, but I still ate it. Oceana, Bordeaux and Portofino were outstanding. The beach was great at first. On the 22nd, seaweed started rolling in and they can’t keep up with it. It’s quite a project with tractors constantly running on the beach and it still piles up. We were glad we had the first two days of a peaceful beach with clear water before the mess. Hopefully it slows down soon. In all, we highly recommend Secrets Maroma and we may go back. Resort staff is very engaging and there seems to be something going on all the time. It’s not loud and doesn’t have a party atmosphere but there were lots of fun people to chat with and lots of young couples.

My husband and I started our vacation at a different Secrets resort. On our first day, construction on the resort next door began at 7 am and continued until 6pm, projecting loud drilling throughout the entire resort. My husband had not had a week off in over 2 years and I found him fuming on our private (upgraded) balcony with earplugs in. When we booked, we were told the room would NOT face the construction site, but that was a lie. I tried to move our room with the UVC concierge but every quieter room had already been filled with other guests requesting a move. We were given no other option but to leave the resort and find a new place to relax. This is where Secrets Maroma Beach saved our week! We have visited Maroma 3 times now and each visit gets better than the last. We awoke at 5 am to workout, eat, pack and make the move to Maroma where we were greeted by the kind and patient Edwin at the front desk who immediately put our minds at ease. A few of the other employees who made our stay fantastic were: Roger served us two days in a row and was very friendly (breakfast and lunch International cafe), Carlos was a very skilled barista (coffee shop), Armando & Edwin went out of their way to make us our favorite pineapple and watermelon drinks - blended fruit and tequila with a splash of simple syrup (preferred club bar), Hugo (preferred beach concierge who taught us about the local flora and fauna - we found his company especially inviting, authentic and comforting). Hugo is the real MVP and truly embodies the Secrets motto of “Welcome Home” and we are very grateful to have befriended him. We had a fantastic outdoor meal at Himitsu for my husband’s birthday. Unfortunately, I did not catch our waiter’s name; however, he was fantastic and everything he recommended we order was amazing! After a chaotic start to the week, we chose to stay in and enjoy room service to get some extra rest before the long trek home. Carlos brought us a delicious meal and prepared a beautiful presentation of our meal. He was also genuine and kind. Cassot (amstar) was very helpful in assisting us in moving our airport transportation. Our pickup was delayed due to a traffic accident but Octavio and Daniel (doorman & baggage) took special care of our luggage and came to get us in the lobby when it was time to depart. If you are looking for a perfect CLEAN beach with tons of huts, beautiful well kept and relaxing rooms with a full resort of expert staff, Maroma is for you! We were very happy to see less disposables being used and special attention paid to respecting the land around the resort including the sea turtle nesting grounds! This resort is also low EMF, allowing you room keys and paper menus rather than the hassle of carrying your phone with you at all times. We could safely turn them off and leave them in our rooms to truly disconnect. We always walk the beach and pickup trash and would love to see a weekly activity bring other guests together to assist in the process. This week would have been an opportune time, as Thursday was World Recycle Day. Please add a few recycling bins around the resorts to further the process. Also, adding a bit of new concrete and plants to the walkways and pools at the spa would benefit guests. The fruit tree growing at the center is a beautiful part of the spa experience.

A wonderful paradise, been to a few cancun resorts but this one is definately the best so far. There attention to detail and really going out there way to make our stay the best it could be was outstanding. Our concierge. Roberto in block 25 was a true gent and was always at hand belong out. Even out of hours when he had gone home. The food was all on point. The pool stunning and the beach beautiful.
