Second time at this hotel - mostly fabulous

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

We had a two week stay in January 2026 as a couple. We had been to the resort the year before and booked a swim up room again for this year. The check in process was really quick and straightforward and it didn’t take long for us to be in our room with our suitcases. We had the junior swim up suite and the room was perfect again. Super clean and such a good size. We are pretty familiar with the hotel and found that there had been various improvements put in place. The theatre was much improved for the evening show, the pool had additional decking and sunbeds and the restaurants had been given a makeover. The hotel looks wonderful. Poolside and beach concierge and staff were excellent – really attentive and friendly. The poolside food offering at lunchtime every day was very good – plenty to choose from. No problems getting any space at the pool or beach. We also did a beach cabana one of the days and that’s a truly relaxing experience. We do really like this hotel but have a couple of grumbles. There is no evening buffet option unless you attend one of the themed nights. This was ok I guess, in 2025 as it seemed to be more couples staying but it was a truly awful experience for 2026. There were way more corporate guests of very large groups who got smashed / drunk in the day (which is fine if that’s what they want to do) but then at the buffet in the evening, the setup is formed of huge group tables, so as a couple you don’t have a choice other than to sit with the loud and annoying groups. Well that isn’t strictly true – you can buy wine so you can get a table for two but the buffet isn’t that good that you would want to spend any money. The only other option is to go and put your name down for a restaurant, which can sometimes be a bit of a wait. The buffet evening experience is not a good one and the focus seems to be on keeping corporate guests happy rather than holiday makers. Breakfast buffet was absolutely brilliant – so much choice and excellent food. The other grumble is the over aggressive tactics of the UVC staff who want you to attend a two hour timeshare meeting – we have no interest in these and must have said no on three occasions at least, to the same person. It’s too much pressure to even attend and they should be told to drop it as soon as a guest says no. As for the themed restaurants, the Italian is very good. Went here a couple of times and enjoyed the food. The French is overall disappointing and a bit odd! You are given cheese and crackers as a pre starter, which is just a bit strange. The escargot are completely bland and flavourless and should be avoided. The pork and lamb dishes were excellent. The Japanese / teppanyaki place is great – whether you do the show meal or the regular menu, it is all very good. Seafood restaurant was also enjoyable. Entertainment is much as you would expect and these places and the casino night was good fun. All in all, we really like the hotel and it’s staff like Jesica (lobby bar), Noemi (reception) and Eric (restaurant) that can make your day. Everyone is so friendly and lovely. Had a really relaxing break.

Top Notch

Our couples trip to Secrets Maroma Beach can be summed up in a single word; service. At every turn we were greeted with a smile. With every request we were assured it was their pleasure to assist. Rooms were spacious, cool and well kept. The vibe at the pool was fun, yet chill. Food and drink were excellent and the nightly entertainment was solid; though they should let the karaoke keep going if the crowd is into it.

Classy chill. Highly recommend.

This resort far exceeded our expectations. The beach was clean soft white sand. The pools were beautiful and had great cocktail staff all around who were prompt but also so friendly. Cudos to Balbina - look for her. Top shelf alcohol and Coke not Pepsi. Music at pools was relaxing . . . Not overpowering. Vibe was classy chill not obnoxious. We loved it. Food was much better than most any resort or cruise and far better than any all inclusive we have visited. We did not have a mediocre meal. Presentation was unbelievable. Rooms were clean and stylish. Slept great. The friendly yet professional staff set this resort apart from others. Our concierge, Angel was so helpful and cordial. He took care of any issue before we could even ask. Highly recommend for adults only.

Maroma experience

This was our first time at secrets Maroma and it didn't disappoint. The resort itself is very well maintained and the people couldn't have been friendlier. The beach is incredible. special mention to our concierge in building 27 Marcelo, who greeted us each morning with a smile and always asking if he could do anything for us. We also want to mention Naomi in housekeeping who worked very hard each day. Ana on the beach was always there to offer drink and food service right to your cot - all with a smile. We will definitely return.

Amazing resort, amazing people!!

This resort was amazing -- the best one we've ever been to. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, from Francia, our concierge, to the entertainment team, Isabel and Fritz, to the serving staff, Alberto, Ariel, and Miguel, and many others whose names I don't remember. The food was all top-notch, and getting into the a la carte restaurants was a breeze. The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. The only thing small complaint I have is the wine portion of this vacation. The house wines were just okay, and you could only get them by the glass through room service. Upgrading this part of the vacation would be inalignment with what else this resort offers. Also, sometimes the drinks seemed watered down -- the upside of that was that there weren't any really drunk people, as we have experienced at other resorts. We had a great time and will definitely return to this resort.
