Reviews for Velas Vallarta

Love this place!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Anne and Nick’s wedding was amazing. Thank you for everything. The pool service was great and the attention to detail in the rooms was great. I love how friendly everyone was and I can’t wait to come back. This was my second time here and it is always a fun and relaxing experience. The spa is amazing and massages near the beach are so great.

Kind of a cross between a hotel and a condo suite

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My wife and l had a suite without a balcony which was quite common in this hotel. There are rooms with balconies that you can book, but we found them to be at minimum 40 USD per night extra when we checked at the desk to see if we could get an upgrade. Our room 3405 was a bit dated, the toilet was hidden behind the door as you entered the bathroom. Nice size shower room but a real squeeze in the toilet area. Just me and the wife so okay, but this would probably not be okay if you had kids. The gardens around the pools were beautifully maintained - best l’ve ever seen at a hotel. There were a few peacocks wondering around, very tame. The hotel only has 2 restaurants, l’m used to at least 4 or 5 at a hotel resort. They try hard to mix it up with different menus and the food was generally good, l would recommend the menu rather than the buffet. They obviously had some talented chefs there as some of the evening meals were excellent. The buffet was pretty much useless. Overall, the staff were cheerful and friendly, they had some limited entertainment around 9.30 pm for about 45 minutes. Other than that, it was a good place for retirees and the elderly, very quiet, proably only about 20% or less occupancy. ln the mornings, there was often only several people in the pools. l believe a large number of the rooms there were timeshare or owned privately and rented out. If you’re looking for a quiet place by the pool, this is it. The local town, shops and quay was a 15 minute walk away, not much to see there, a bit run down and no where to sit which was a pain.

Great service, good food and pools, little older but well maintained, value OK

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Stayed March 2024, family with 2 kids--8 & 11. One bedroom suite. Good amount of room for a small family. I assume these were built with timeshares in mind, as kitchen space is largely wasted at an all-inclusive resort. We used it for charging devices and storing sunscreen and hats. The furniture and fixtures are a little older but well maintained and not tired. Speaking of timeshares, nobody approached me or anyone else I could see about attending a 2 hour breakfast. Velas Vallarta, that’s a BIG plus. Nothing says no class like the unwelcome hard sell at a place you just flew to and paid $800 a night for. If you’re a resort that does that with the remotest amount of pushiness, you are the worst. The grounds were well maintained and relaxing. Peacocks postured on green grass between being chased by 9-year-olds. $5 fish food bags available to feed the colorful carp that filled the streamlets. For zero incremental cost, some frugal kids were feeding them cereal from the single serve boxes found at the breakfast layout. The resort has 2 restaurants, one closer to the lobby area and one at the end of the pool complex overlooking the beach. For breakfast and lunch you can walk up to either. The lobby proximate one requires reservations for dinner. They open up the reservations making process when breakfast starts, 7:30 am if I remember correct. You can call it in or make the reservaciones when you go there for breakfast. If you’d like a table between 5:30 and 8:30, make them early. Restaurant setups were pretty similar, they both had a buffet setup and provided menus and a la carte menu service. The lobby proximate restaurant was a little more refined and traditional restaurant layout with a small buffet. They had a pianist at dinner, he was pretty solid. The beach proximate restaurant—the walk up dinner option—had the larger buffet. Early or late for dinner you could walk up and get seated pretty quick but there was a peak window where you would wait. We got in late the first day and around 8:00 pm the line was 25-30 minutes. Kids were hangry and the buffet was pretty demolished when we got to it. Not a great start. Guy behind me said he’d been coming there for 9 years straight and never saw a line like that. For the rest of the trip we never saw it that bad again, maybe 10 minute wait or so, but I wasn’t monitoring it all the time. They have a crepe station in the lobby area from around lunchtime through late evening. It was a hit with young and old. It looked like 90% went with the sweet option, and they had solid choices of fixings. Sit down with your crepe, watch whatever sporting event they had going on the big screen and cocktail waitresses would deliver your beverage of choice to the table. Except for the pool bar, they didn’t seem to have any bars you could belly up to. They had them in the restaurants and the cocktail servers in the front lobby area that would get it done—though if it was busy you might be waiting awhile. But I missed having one bar I could walk up to . Not that I ever wanted for a drink. The proximity to the airport was nice, probably even more nice if you were flying in for more than the 3 hours our direct flight took. This appears to be a popular resort with a loyal following. The food here is solidly good, but I wouldn’t quite give it a great rating. The service is great at the restaurants, the pools and pretty much everywhere. We go to a lot of Mexico inclusive resorts, and I can see why this place has a strong following. But if you’re going for value, this resort is a little steep. If it was 15%-20% less, I’d say it was a deal. And you can get that deal at comparable resorts in the area if you do your homework. I spent the second half of this vacation at one of them. I probably won’t be back Velas Vallarta, but I wouldn’t not recommend it.

Outstanding, elegant & luxurious retreat. A+++ standards

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We are members here and we believe it’s worth every penny for it. “Welcome home,” is how you are greeted- and a home in Puerto Vallarta, is how it feels. Top tier service by ALL employees. You can expect a well kept compound of atmosphere, quality and relaxation. This place is close to the airport and the marina. It’s just taxi ride away from down town and as soon as you walk to the front a taxi is called up the driver to your service by the bellhop. Private beach that is quiet- you will be served and checked on by servers where ever you seat by the pool or down at the beach. Big bathrooms, big balcony with views, great water pressure, kitchenette stocked with plenty of cookware, plates and stuff to accommodate small stuff you want to make yourself. 24hr room service. Lots of activities provided if you want to stay at the resort. Bed turn down service around 8pm- they open the covers and place tasty chocolates at the pillow… so many above and beyond services that make you feel catered to and appreciated as a guest. There’s so much more that I could go on and on! I should also add that our first year here- they helped us move out of a dump of a place for no charge for the rest of our visit- before we even made the purchase to become members. I truly believe that Velas continues to give you the best service available in PV to make your vacation truly feel like a get away even long after our commitment to vacationing here in Puerto Vallarta! Special thanks to Wilberth for always being an excellent concierge from the airport to the last day of our stay.

My wife and I have just completed the sixth stay we won in a Luxury Link auction. We have been totally pleased with all of our LL purchases and this one at the Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was no exception. We are grateful to the Velas people for all their personal attention and the high quality of their facility; the food was exceptional.
