My family visited Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana from Feb 14-24, 2018. We were three families, in three rooms - 11 people total. I started to write my review broken down by the “Good and the Bad” but that proved difficult. So instead I’ll break it down more by category. Check-in The check-in process was smooth. They met us at the front step, brought us to a private area with drinks, snacks and seating. Gave us some clip boards to fill in basic info and we got all checked in. It was very easy and comfortable. The Rooms We stayed in Building 2, third floor. We were in the Preferred section. There are no elevators at all, so be prepared for stairs. We requested the third floor because traditionally the higher floors have less bugs. The room was fine for the most part. - The bathrooms were a problem. Very nice, and very big, although they are wide open to the rest of the room. The showers are large, big enough for several people to shower together at one (if you’re into that), but there is a smoked windows that makes the shower visible to the main part of the room. Given we were a family of 5, with kids, this was awkward for us. - there is very little storage in the rooms. Total of 3 small drawers + hanging closet space (we always bring our own hangers). - the beds were pretty comfortable. - they stock the room with snacks every day or so. Usually a Milky Way, can of Pringles, and a bag of M&Ms, and sometimes a bottle of rum. They also stock the mini fridge with water, sprite, beer and coke. When we left a note they sometimes gave us our preference of snacks. That was nice. - every day they would leave a customized newsletter under our door. We are Canadian so it would be a summary of all the Canadian news. Impressive. - the beds are on wheels. They roll around whenever you sit on them. It sounds like a small thing, but it gets tiresome. - We’re pretty sure we had bedbugs. Our oldest daughter stayed with my parents and was complaining of bug bites, but we blamed it on the teen club. On our final day the resort came around to spray our rooms for bugs - we put two and two together and realized there were bed bugs. We are now almost home and planning how to disinfect all our luggage. The Restaurants There are 4 a la cartes plus the main buffet. We tried them all. No reservations required for the a la cartes which was nice, but the “long pants”requirement was a real pain - I’m visiting the Caribbean, I want to wear shorts. Please. - the Barefoot grill is the snack bar on the beach. Swimsuits and barefoot are fine. They cook, burgers, hotdogs, fries and nachos. Very convenient and tasty food. Highly recommended. - Cocoa Cafe is a little coffee shop to the right of the main buffet. Open early and serves great coffee and pastries. I started having breakfast there every morning. Cinnamon buns were great and always fast service. - World Cafe is the main buffet. I was sort of blah about it. Food was fine but the selection seemed limited and the service was mediocre. Coffee served was either non-existent or cold. Other resorts always have a theme night in their buffet, this resort does not, which I believe to be unfortunate. - Seaside grill is the only a la cartel that does not require men to wear long pants, so I expected this to be our go-to. The menu was decent, and we went there twice. Although both times we went there we had kids that spent the whole night puking. Coincidence maybe, but we decided to stop going there. - Portofino is the Italian. Long pants required. Really good menu, but service was absolutely terrible. We’re an easy going bunch, but the waiter took our order and told us “only appetizers, entrees later”which seemed weird, but ok. We got our appys and waited. And waited. And waited. Apparently they weren’t going to take our entree order. Finally we flagged the waiter down, and I think he realized he’d messed up and tooled our orders. Then when he started bringing our food he had it all wrong - I order pork medallions and he brought me pasta. He also badly messed up several orders from my other family members. Realizing his mistake, he started bringing out random dished to us - 11 of us had about 15 various entrees on the tables. Being easy going we were all just laughing, but it was still frustrating. Food was good, service was atrocious. El patio is the Mexican restaurant. Long pants required. Appy menu was good, and overall we were happy. Went back here a few times. Bordeaux is the adult-only French restaurant. Overall tasty food and service was good. Himitsu is the Japanese. Our favourite by far - we should have gone there every night. The show cooking was amazing. If you arrive at 5:55 you’ll walk right in. Room Service Room service is 24 hours which was really nice. My kids made use of it almost every night. The trick was getting your order right. Language is an issue. A couple times we ordered cheese pizzas and a fruit tray, and got a pepperoni pizza with a cheese tray. Bars The pool bars. I stopped visiting after day 2. Booze is basically watered down and sugar drinks. They had decent liquor on the shelf but would run out by mid-day. However Juan the bartender would always greet me with a smile and did a great job. I recommend the adult-only preferred bat behind Bldg 2. They serve really good drinks and Uganda (the bartender) does a great job. My brother and I are scotch drinkers, and they keep Johnny Walker Black Label in stock. We would go there even in the middle of the day from the pool for our drinks. The Rusty Nail in the lobby is equally good. Pools There are 4 pools in total. A Family Preferred pool, an adult-only Preferred pool, and 2 main pools. We stayed around the main pools. The staff does a great job of getting the pools clean. Often saw staff going around the pool with spray bottles scrubbing the perimeter, and removing leaves. Overall the pool area was kept extremely clean. - the biggest problem with the pool area - the towel-on-lounger wars. By 8 am every lounger had a towel across it, reserved, and half of them would never be sat in all day. It was a major pain and a constant source of frustration. Towels are given out like candy, so people lay out towels and don’t worry about it. I emphasize, the resort needs to fix this. Entertainment - there is a show every night at 9:30, sometimes around the pool area, the beach of the theatre. Shows are ok, we especially enjoyed the Magic Show, 70/80s Show and the Dominican Show. - the Entertainment Staff around the pool/beach during the day is very poor. No real games or bingos like I’ve seen in other resorts. The lack of pool entertainment was very lacking and some thing the resort really needs to focus on improving. - Don’t know if this is a pool issue or an entertainment issue - they had music playing from the entertainment desk all day long, and separate music playing at the pool bar. All I could hear all day long was a mix of relaxing Latin guitar with party music. All-day Taylor Swift mixed with acoustic Hotel California - use your imagination. Beach - The beach has great potential. White sand. It was extremely windy every day we were there. This isn’t anyone’s fault but basically made the beach unusable. They have sailboats, paddle boards, kayaks, banana boats to be used, but we couldn’t use anything because of the wind. Again, nobody’s fault, but something to be aware of if you want to make these activities part of your vacation experience. - Vendors are constantly trying to sell statues, cigars, beads,weed, massages all day long on the beach. They are relentless. It got tiring. - There is lots of seaweed that washes in but the staff is constantly cleaning it up. Didn’t see anyone swimming in the ocean the whole time. Kids club/Teen Zone The kids and teens club is on the far out-skirts of the resort. Our kids checked it out with high hopes. Lots of bug bites, I assume because it’s on the edge of the resort. At the kids club the staff didn’t want to really interact with the kids so our kids didn’t like it. We didn’t go back. High potential but low likability. Conclusion Ok, so looking back I realize this might be a long review. I think this resort has high potential but I would not recommend it. We thought we were booking a fairly high-end resort for a fun family 10-day vacation. We were ready to come home after day 7. I would advise looking elsewhere. 2 stars out of 5 ( that’s probably being generous).

First let me say we had a great time and the resort is beautiful and well maintained . The staff very friendly . The food was very good , better than an average AI . We travel alot and have done many of All Inclusives . Very disappointed in the drinks . Throughout our stay we felt like the liquor was watered down . We never felt like we had drinks in the hot sun . Later in our visit we engaged in a conversation with another couple who brought up that they felt the drinks were watered down . So we weren’t alone . Would never expect this from a so called 4 star resort. But after our stay no question this was happening . I witnessed a bar tender pour left over no name Kahlua into a name brand bottle. The rooms were nice , and the entertainment was very good . I would return but would be inclined to buy a bottle of my favorite drink so I know I’m getting a real drink ! One more thought , yes it’s very windy and lots of seaweed , not their fault just a observation. So the chairs around the pool fill up fast , down by the beach, empty most the day .

Let me start off by giving you the the end I'll give you the negatives. We checked the reviews before we went down. And as many said the staff was amazing... The few that stood out the most are Wilnquin... he is in charge of entertainment. Felix who is part of the entertainment staff and Brayan... stood out and made my family and me feel special from the first day to the last day. They work a lot of hours but you could never tell because they always had a smile on their face. They made us get involved and do different activities from beach volleyball to learning how to salsa, well, I didn't salsa but my family did. If you don't do an activity it's your own fault because there's plenty to do. That's how we met other families from across the world. With that being said if you don't want to do the activities there's plenty of quiet areas that you don't have to do them. The food was good even at the buffet, and the specialty restaurants were well worth going to. At the pool bar Jose' Mota always greeted us with a smile, and ready to serve you Presidente or a dirty monkey. The room service was spot-on and housekeeping was great. We had three rooms and they were always well-stocked to our needs in the morning and the turndown service was nice. The entertainment every night was perfect with the exception of maybe the Western night. They brought in outside entertainment such as a magician and a circus. The pools were huge and never felt crowded.. My daughter and I played ball in the pool often and never felt like we were infringing on anothers space. There are people in the beach trying to sell you stuff but courteous if you said no. There is a company called Sea Pro which gives you opportunities for snorkeling and other excursions.. Please know you can wheel and deal. Gabrielle...aka Gabi sold us and Excursion the second day there and always stop by and said hi every day, even when he wasn't making money... Just showed us the Dominican friendliness. We've been to a lots of resorts and I have to say that the entertainment here rocks. Jesus works as a timeshare salesperson and I have to say he would be the person I would go to if you're interested in an upgrade. Now let me share a few of the negatives: the rooms do have a musty smell when you first get there but you seem to get used to it. We were on the third floor. the chairs get taken very quickly in the morning with towels, which was an everyday occurrence and very annoying, we would get there around 7 because my mother-in-law gets up before God. The staff was ready to help if you needed help with chairs, they were bring them off the beach if you needed them. Umbrellas were easily accessible. The housekeeping in the hallways in the morning was a little bit noisy at times. The bathroom shower is kind of awkward because it's not much privacy allowed. The water is a little bit murky but we were there in February. Now having said the negatives we've never been to a resort that we said we would go back to again and that goes back to the courteousness of the staff. I know it's their job, but they're good at it. I hope this helps with your decision. In reference to the entertainment is probably one of the best places we've been to. Have a nice vacation.

This is not a luxury hotel. We had a long flight and the drive is at least 30 minutes from the airport. As soon as we checked in, we were hit up to schedule a tour of the other properties before we could even get to our room to settle in. Not a timeshare-right!! We were promised a 90 minute presentation the next day and it lasted 3 hours! In exchange we did get $200 towards spa services. The spa was excellent! As we walked to our room, we were bombarded with vendors trying to sell us jewelry, cigars, wood carvings and other souvenirs. Total turn off. Our room definitely had a mildew smell and we had to practically beg for housekeeping services. In room bar was basically a college refrigerator with some pop, water and 2 beers. Dirty too. This resort is more for families than couples. Bartenders are very busy making virgin cocktails for kids, while adults have to wait a long time to get real cocktails.

This was our fourth visit to DR and this was the smallest resort we had stayed at. The service the resort offered and attention the staff paid to us was excellent. Our rooms were 6104 and 6105 and these were an excellent position, very close to the pool and beach area and also renovated. We had connecting rooms as a family of 7. These were spacious, one room had a huge king size bed and the other had two double beds. Plenty of space for our large family. The showers were great, hot and powerful, with a large overhead shower or a smaller side mounted one as an alternative. We ate at the buffet which offered lots of good food choices. We also ate at the italian, asian and seafood/steak restaurants. Our favourites were the buffet and the seafood/steak which is a beachfront restaurant and offered good steaks and fresh salmon, amongst other dishes. There is no reservation system for any of the restaurants. I would say that the earlier you attended, the quicker you got seated. We attempted to eat at the mexican one night but left it until 8.15 pm and could not get a table that evening. We ate at the italian early, approx 6.30 pm, and got a table straight away. We ate at the steak/seafood restaurant at various times and either got a table immediately or only had a short 10 minute wait. There is also a coffee shop which offers coffee, hot chocolate and frozen drinks with a selection of cookies, cakes and sandwiches - also great. There was also the barefoot grill on the beach which did get busy, offering burgers, hotdogs and chips etc each afternoon. There was also occasionally paella or fish or other specialiity foods offered on the beach. The pool waiter service was also good and Ambiorix was particularly attentive. The staff at the resort were excellent - Very polite and couldn't do enough for you. It has been the best resort we have stayed at for customer care. Our two youngest boys, Liam and Brad, had fun with the staff. Particularly good was Winquin in entertainment and he really paid special attention to our younger children. We took part in some of the daytime activities offered around the pool/on the beach. In return for taking part/winning, you are given funny money which can be used at twice weekly auctions to win t shirts, caps or rum. Good fun! Free wifi throughout the resort which was pretty good and free digital safe in the room. My husband used the gym daily and Jonathan in there was particularly helpful and deserves a special mention. The kids club was a bit remote from the pool and beach area, having to walk through the lobby entrance and around the building. For this reason, it was not often used by our children. The reason this property was not given a five star rating was the beach area. There were plenty of sunbeds available at most times of the day but there was alot of seaweed in the sea, making it a murky looking colour rather than the turquoise waters we had had on other areas of the island. The seaweed did wash up on the beach but the staff did work each day to remove it. Obviously this is not something which the hotel can control and it is a real shame but for us, as a family with young children, the beach/sea is a large part of our holiday and this is the only reason that we would not return to this resort. Overall, an excellent resort with excellent customer care and amenities but disappointing beach area.
