Excellence Punta Cana

My wife and I spent eleven days at this beautiful resort. Seven days planned, four unplanned thanks to Westjet going on strike ! All I can say is this is one of the best resorts we have stayed at in the Caribbean. We have been to many over the years, as you would expect some excellent and some not so good. This is the flagship of the Excellence brand, and it is incredible that they have been able to maintain such a high standard for all of twenty six years. although it was renovated and reopened in 2017. This resort is immaculate and the maintenance and support staff do an amazing job keeping this resort beautiful. We booked a Ocean View in the Club section of the resort. The room was lovely and was well appointed. The fridge was stocked full every day. Double sink in the bathroom and the shower was outstanding. The room was cleaned every day and turndown was available as needed. The room was cleaned to a high standard no issues.The room overlooked the quiet pool and it was never too busy. There were plenty of beds and umbrellas to keep you shaded if required. The concierge in the early morning placed towels and it was first come first served. We spent all our time on the beach and the concierge looked after us every day. They also have Bali beds which makes it really comfortable. There was also beach staff coming by regularly to keep you hydrated. The ocean here is a little rough, so if you are a weak swimmer it may be a little bit of a struggle, There are lifeguards on duty every day, just in case. Sargassum seaweed was present most of the time but the beach staff did a good job of cleaning it everyday. On one occasion I was going to put some towels down for the day, the bed which we normally liked along with others were a little messed up from a party the night before. No big deal I thought, good for those guys enjoying the moment. Along came a manager and asked if everything was ok, I said no worries we will come back later as it was no big deal, when we returned after breakfast we were met by the beach concierge and we were told we were to have a private cabana for the day, along with Champagne. I was taken back a little as I did not complain or make a fuss to anyone, but the gesture was very much appreciated. All I could think was outstanding customer care !! You do not need to make reservations for the restaurants, which was great. The longest we waited was about thirty minutes. We ate at the Steak house, the French and Lobster restaurants all of which we enjoyed. The Magna restaurant was perfect for breakfast and dinner, and available for Club members. All the staff in the above restaurants were outstanding, very attentive and polite. The coffee shop opens at 0700 on the dot. i was greeted by Katy every morning with a smile and after the second day, my coffee was waiting for me every day after, thank you :). Have to mention the Excellence Club staff also, they were outstanding. On the morning of our departure I got the message that our return flight had been cancelled. Proceeded to the Club lounge to explain out predicament , and they were amazing. As we did not know our return date, they made arrangements for us to go day to day extending our vacation as needed totally making the decision stress free. We also met with the resort Assistant General manager Yulissa Mari , whom assured us that we would be looked after. Yulissa made a point of interacting with us almost every day. I let it be known to her that this property needed to be known for one of the best experiences we have ever had. Customer care along with customer service, and overall property image was outstanding. Sorry I can`t remember all the names of the staff that we interacted with, but thank you all. We will return to this resort with hesitation !!

We came to excellence punta cana for 5 nights. Pros: the location was stunning, the rooms were large and beautiful, the the cleaning service for the rooms was so kind and wonderful, guest services were wonderful (but it was hit or miss for waiters at some of the restaurants). The spa was exceptional. Everything was clean in whole hotel. The shower was great in our room. Tub in bedroom was great. Drinks were good. These restaurants were really good: hibachi, Mexican, breakfast buffet (the omelettes were good and there was so much to pick from in rest of buffet that you were prone to find something good), the private dinner on the beach (costs extra) Cons: the food was often just not good or very mediocre. We would be very surprised when it was good, and were not foodys at all. Examples: the lobster in the lobster house was genuinely hard to bite into bc it was so dry and had been laying out for so long. We were given burgers at the las olas restaurant with a bunch of mold on them. We also ordered a poke bowl at las olas which was like a giant plate (not a bowl) with a tiny bit of rice, a decent amount of tuna, and like 2 Lima beans and some carrots. The sushi at spice had rice that was hard and seemed like it was made days ago, and the imitation crab in California role was also just hard to bite into. The breakfast at magna was terrible (for example- the croque madam was inedible, the parfait was like 80% honey, 10% oats, 5% yogurt, 5% berries). Very early in our trip, we had the mantra to just order the most basic thing on the menu so as to not be disappointed. The room service food was pretty bad (example: vegetable soup was so salty it was inedible, and I like salt quite a bit!; the chocolate cake was very average). Another con was the service at the restaurants. Some waiters were straight up mean and wouldn’t acknowledge you when you ordered or make eye contact. Con: the Latin music at the bars was very loud and hard to get away from when sometimes you just wanted peace and quiet. While we wouldn’t return because of the food, it was still a nice experience, especially because of how beautiful the beach and views were, and the very kind guest services (especially those at the excellence collection).

This place and the staff were amazing! Very customer service oriented, professional, helpful. I cannot say enough great things about the staff and the environment.

I was very impressed with the resort. My first time there and would definitely come back. All of the staff were courteous and helpful.

Excellence Punta Cana was well… as the staff would say “EXCELLENTEEE”. Me and my wife had such a blast on our honeymoon. The atmosphere was beautiful with a perfect mix of Sandy beach and clear and clean pools. We loved the variety of food such as Oregano the Italian restaurant with our favorite server Denny. All of the service was excellent from turndown service, guest experiences, to the event staff. We made bracelets, painted traditional Dominican faceless dolls, and enjoyed multiple rounds of Bingo poolside with our favorite event coordinator Maria! Overall it was the perfect get away for our honeymoon and we look forward to coming back sometime soon.
