Excellence Punta Cana

I thought the resort was great and that lots of the amenities were really nice. I do wish the food quality was a little better but overall had a great time.

I stayed here for 6 nights on vacation. The location was great and the hotel itself was nice. However, neither can make up for the traumatizing and surreal experience that I had while staying here. I spent most of my time by the beach and by the pools where I relaxed and ordered food and drinks. Approximately half way through my stay, I received a phone call to my room in the morning. It was from the assistant manager, who sounded very stern and upset. He asked me if I was free to chat later that morning and I said yes. After sitting down with him, I asked what this was all about. He stated that yesterday, the poolside staff witnessed me rip one of the light poles out of the ground, that it was completely broken, and that I now had to pay for a replacement. He stated that these lights were very expensive, that they were imported from Italy, and that the cost of one was greater than $1K. I was absolutely astonished, not only by the absolutely bogus and outrageous claim that he had just made, but also by the fact that more than one staff member would blatantly lie on me! I adamantly denied breaking the light and demanded to see the video footage of me doing so. He stated that he would get back to me. He then had the general manager meet with me. She again presented the bogus claim that I had ripped the light out of the ground. It was so firmly set, one would need a set of power tools to be able to remove the light. She said that I was an "extremely strong man", making it sound as if I had superhuman strength. She then told me that I would not be able to leave the country until I paid for the light. I again denied the claim and requested to see the video before paying for anything. She said that she didn't believe me and looked at me with extreme suspicion. The next day, I got a phone call to my room from the general manager. She apologized to me and said that I was correct. She stated that in fact, the poolside staff had lied and that I did not break the light. She never told me what actually happened to the light, only saying that she could no longer "trust" her staff and that she would have to fact check what they told her from that point on. She didn't even have the decency to apologize to me in person or to offer anything as an apology! For all that I know, she was a part of the scheme herself! I enjoyed the rest of my trip as much as I could, but I felt SO uncomfortable and disgusted to stay there after this happened. It was an absolutely horrible feeling that I never want to experience at a resort again. All in all, I stayed in what was SUPPOSED to be a 4 star resort in the beautiful Dominican Republic just to be EXTORTED by the staff there and THREATENED with arrest! This has been an absolutely surreal experience and I will NEVER stay at another "Excellence" resort as long as I live!!! They need to change the name because there is nothing "excellent" about them!!!

This trip was amazing!!! The staff was so friendly, they called us family the whole time we were here but what was special was that they made us FEEL like family! Great food, great entertainment and activities, and super clean everywhere. We will definitely be back.

Hi, Overall, the experience was great. I wish someone told me about the restaurants and how it all works. I wanted to go to the Hibachi but I had to make reservations before 4pm, I didnt even know about the restaurant. If the app was given to me in advance, I would have been able to plan my dining The staff was great. very clean place.

Everything was top notch! Every bit as nice as sandals, and half the price. Will be staying with excellence on our next all inclusive trip.
