Excellence Punta Cana

The trip started out well until checking into our room. As soon as the air conditioning in the bedroom came on it wreaked of mold and mildew and was impossible to sleep the first night. This was room 5202 in excellence Club. After having to complain several times about the smell and effects on me and my asthma they finally transferred us two doors down to another room. Thankfully that room smelled better. After that the complaints that we had were related to the food. Much of it was Bland and repetitive. The only restaurant I would recommend is Magna. The worst part was on the night before checkout my friend's gold necklace was stolen out of our room. It was there at 5:00 p.m. and then gone at 10:30. Between then turn down service happened. We told security and management but instead said I probably took it. The only good thing I would say about this place is the staff at the bars and restaurants were attentive and pleasant.

We had a nice vacation, the resort is beautiful, the grounds are kept up very nicely. The food at all the restaurants was very good. There could have been more games, during the day. The room was nice, functional. The pools were well maintained and clean. We were very disappointed the days the owners were there because they wanted the place very quiet, so no games or music. This is a message to the owners, “You don’t get it! People want to play, have fun, and listen to music, this isn’t church! I hope the owners see this because we won’t be back if you continue to do this.”

This was our first time going to an all-inclusive resort, and we could not have been happier with our experience. It was very clean and well maintained, the resort and the grounds were beautiful, and all of the staff were so friendly and attentive. The pool and beach areas were exactly the type of Caribbean vibe we were hoping for for our vacation. There was a good mix of guests present, from honeymooners, to girls trips, or friend groups. There was also a nice variety of dining options and bars. I would love to come back!

We returned to Excellence Resort after three years and unfortunately noticed a clear decline. The property is still beautiful, and the staff remain friendly and attentive, but the food quality has taken a noticeable step down—it often felt like they were working with lower-quality ingredients. My wife and I don’t drink, and during our last stay that wasn’t an issue at all—there were plenty of non-alcoholic options available at every restaurant. This time, it was very inconsistent and limited. Entertainment and activities also seem to have been scaled back. Previously, we enjoyed things like a cigar rolling workshop, which is no longer offered. We did try a pottery class and an amber jewelry class, but both felt rushed and lacked the same level of care. Overall, it feels like new management may be cutting corners, and the experience just isn’t what it used to be.

Overall, we had a pleasant and enjoyable stay. We pre-arranged a car through the hotel, and the process was seamless—after clearing customs, we checked in at the designated counter and were quickly escorted to our vehicle. The room was clean, and the minibar was restocked twice a day (morning and afternoon). As for the all-inclusive dining, it was unfortunately average, and neither the food nor the service stood out. However, the steakhouse and the Mexican restaurant became our favorites. Service in the restaurants varied significantly depending on the staff; at times, we had to be quite patient waiting for our first round of drinks. It’s best to keep your expectations modest regarding the service speed. We visit different resorts every year, and while our stay was fine, we likely won't be returning to this one because the cost performance.
