Excellence Punta Cana

The resort is well maintained and the staff is friendly. The pool is beautiful, albeit a little chilly. The beach is pretty but red-flag warnings were posted the entire week we were there and we were not permitted to swim. So, if you go on a beach vacation to play in the water, this is not the place for you. It is on the edge of the Atlantic; stay in the Caribbean for swimmable beaches. (We tried the snorkel trip, thinking we would get in some good swimming but that involved a short snorkel stop and a longer stop in a shallow cove that consisted of murky water, people hawking trinkets, loud music, and lots of alcohol. Plus, we were told we would see dolphins on the snorkel trip, which we did but they were in pens--sad.) The menu and food descriptions sounded great. Unfortunately, the descriptions didn't match the taste. We were underwhelmed by the dining experience.

Great resort overall with great service and beautiful property. Very nice for relaxing vacation. All staff were incredible and would highly recommend staying here. Leinardo and Wander were especially great workers.

Unfortunately, our trip quickly went downhill due to multiple serious issues. Our room had a strong moldy smell, including the bedding, which was never properly resolved—only the sheets were changed daily, and the odor persisted due to humidity and condensation. The food quality was also very poor. After dining at one of the à la carte restaurants, both my husband and I became seriously ill with vomiting and were sick for two days. Medical assistance was offered only at our own expense. In addition, the restaurants were misleading. Menu descriptions did not match what was served, with cheaper substitutions instead of fresh ingredients and dietary options that were never available. We expected a basic standard of comfort, cleanliness, and food safety, especially booking through Expedia. Unfortunately, this trip resulted in illness, discomfort, and a completely ruined vacation.

Hipolita (I hope I spelled his name right!) was absolutely wonderful. He helped us with our bags and was one of the kindest, sweetest people we met during our stay. Always smiling, always welcoming, and genuinely happy to help — the best kind of person to be greeted by at a resort. He really made us feel taken care of from the moment we arrived and when we left
