Reviews for Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort
The hotel grounds were lovely and very well kept. It never felt over crowded. The beach was large and picturesque, but the seaweed was overwhelming. For those looking for a classic and pristine Caribbean beach, this isn't it. The pool, however, was great. Large and warm. Be prepared to wake up early though to secure a spot as lounge chairs are limited and gone by early morning. The rooms were slightly subpar. We stayed in a one bedroom suite, and the furniture was tired and worn. The TVs were difficult to operate, one of the phones didn't work and we had a LOT of mosquitoes. For the price paid, the room was a disappointment. It was, however, relatively close to the pool, beach and restaurant, and having a full fridge was very convenient. Service at this hotel can best be described as erratic. Some staff member such as the front desk manager, Jose, were exceptionally helpful whereas others were quite poor. I literally asked seven different servers for a cup of coffee at breakfast, but to no avail. This was a routine experience during meals, and I would often walk over to the servers' station and ask for coffee. Towels were almost impossible to get after 11 am. Service greatly improved once we started tipping more. Tips here are more like bribes than a recognition for good service. Tips are expected for everything. I even saw a guest tip the guy at the omelette station! Unless you're recognized as a good tipper, you will be largely ignored.

There are parts of the hotel that were really nice but overall it was OK. My friend and I had to change our room on the first day because they gave us 1 bed instead of 2 that we requested. My mom had to change her room the 2nd day because her room had really severe mold smell. Room service is included but they charge you a $5 fee anytime you order. It is like a convenience fee. This is the first and only place I been to that did that. The staff were really nice. There are only 2 places to eat for lunch including the buffet. Buffet was good sometimes and bad sometimes. My friend found a maggot on her mango. We made sure the other mangoes were okay. I guess it was just bad luck. There were a lot of flies at the buffet. Indoor, outdoor, and food area. There wasn't much to do at night. Didn't really get a chance to watch any shows. They don't have an indoor stage area. It rained one of the nights. We tried to go watch but it was moved to the Bar area near the buffet. Was not able to see anything from all the people standing and walking around. They should also have signs on the property. It took a few circle to find the best way to the pool, beach, restaurants, etc. This place is a 4 star hotel but it definitely didn't feel like one. I was very disappointed. I paid more than the normal amount I pay for vacations in DR and Cancun and did not even come close to any of the other places I been to. This place was my least favorite out of all the resorts. On a plus note, they have plenty of beds and beach chairs on the beach. The beds were comfy. Bathtub is huge. The steak restaurant Rare was good. Ibana was pretty good. I wasn't able to get into any other restaurants because they were all booked. The snack bar was not bad but impossible to find. Whenever I asked they where it was, they had no idea what I was asking and handed me a bag of chips. lol We found it on the last day.

My wife and I are very experienced travelers and can tell you that we have never been as impressed as by the staff at this hotel. Any employee at any time is willing to stop whatever they are doing to help you in any way they can. The very best is Jesus Alberto Robles Gomez. He looks like a young Marc Antony and simply couldn't do enough for us. His boss Jose Rivera is also an outstanding worker. Rafa Castillo is another exceptional person that the hotel is lucky to have. I am sure that these men will move forward in their lives and be very successful businessmen because of their positive attitude.

The resort is breathtakingly beautiful. We upgraded to stay at the Reserve. We had a beautiful ocean view room. The room was large, clean, well stocked, and the air conditioning worked great. The room had lots of home touches. Robes and slippers to use or purchase if you want. Large closets with a safe, many hangers, drawers, umbrellas, iron and ironing board. The room was stocked every day. There were plenty of clean laundry every day. The housekeeping staff did a great job. The room overlooked the main swimming pool and had a view of the ocean. our private deck had two rocking chairs and a table. The shower was great, the tub was nice and the double sinks are what we are use to. The bedding was very comfortable. There was a television in the room but we never used it. Of course there was a coffee maker in the room, but we never used that either. You could get food basically anytime you wanted. The buffet was closed from 4-6 pm but that was about all, I believe. I could write an entire review about the food but I will keep this simple. It was delicious. There are many restaurants to choose from for many types of food. Just remember to make reservations for dinner ahead of time. There was not a bad restaurant on the property. The general buffet are is called Naos. It too was spectacular. If you can't find something to eat there, then you is something wrong with you. We were there for our anniversary. One night after dinner they had laid out rose petals and put more petals in the bathtub for us. They also left a beautiful fruit plate. On a couple other nights there were special treats waiting for us also. Besides the beautiful facility I have to mention the staff. They were spectacular. All of the staff and it didn't matter the position, they were the most attentive, respectful and competent. The USA could greatly benefit from figuring out how these staff are trained. At first I thought it was because we were new to the facility, the excellent service was all week! Every staff person we encountered was great. Staff were friendly and helpful and very respectful. Shout out of our concierge Leidy and Louis! Our main complaint has to do with the evening entertainment facility. Since this is an all inclusive resort we had expected evening entertainment every night. The first night was a Michael Jackson show but we missed it because we had been up since 3 am and needed sleep. The next night was a circus/acrobat show. It was vey good. The next night we didn't see anything listed but while walking we heard some music and did end up watching some music and dancing. It too was very good. The problem was more the facility. It looks like a huge conference room. It had hundreds of office type chairs to sit in and a make shift stage. It was very not a very nice room. The room is called some kind of theatre. I forget the name. Anyhow, the rest of our trip the theatre was unavailable to us as it was being used to set up for some conference called PACDA. This group also took over the main plaza for a night. We were sitting in the plaza that night listening to their musicians and we were asked to leave, as we were told this was a private event. It was disappointing. There is a bar facing the ocean and the next night there were some dancers performing there. I was embarrassed for the dancers as they were very good, very professional but were trying to make it work on a bar floor. The seating was awkward and we ended up leaving early. We spent most of our time on the beach. We were greeted every day by Dionis with a huge, "hello family" He always walked us to the ocean and set up our chairs with fresh beach towels. He was very considerate and quick to bring us drinks anytime we wanted! The only bad part of the beach experience is the constant barrage of vendors selling their products. They were very good about not bothering you if you just said no. However they also have "shopping center" vendors that are not allowed to come up to you but they will talk to you if you go toward the water. I will not get into the long ugly story but I will safe you a lot of heartache and money if you just do NOT do any business with these vendors. They are awful!

Honneeyyy, let me tell you about my vacation to Punta Cana. This was a pre-birthday trip and it was EPIC! I stayed at the Paradisis Palma Real and I paid a little extra for the ROYAL SERVICE...because it was my birthday. Let me tell you, from the moment I checked in...up until I checked out (6 days).....I WAS PAMPERED LIKE A QUEEN. I had my personal/favorite butlers, bar tender, masseuse and waiter that thought of everything! Towels pre-laid under a cabana, my favorite drink waiting on me, you remembered I love shrimp (extra on my plate), you remembered I was diabetic and I skipped lunch and you had a beautiful mix of cheeses, crackers, & fruit waiting in my room for me....you even had special baths drawn for me in the evening with rose pedals! Now, if that's not special treatment, I don't know what is.... Let me add that this was my 2nd stay at this resort and my 1st time using the ROYAL Service. Trust me it's worth every dime. I will definitely be back next year because of the exceptional service these people provided with a smile every single time: Luis Sanches, Jose Lugo - Butlers, Cristian Castro - Waiter @Fuego restaraunt, Lee Valdez - Bar Tender and Ms. Evelyn @The YHI Spa !!! When you come to a place and it feels like the home you never wanted to leave...That experience deserves to be "repeated"! Thanks to all the staff, the beautiful property, the amenities and exceptional FOOD (can't forget the food, lol). I will DEFINITELY be back next year, but I think I need to add on additional days next time. P.S. To Management the people I named DESERVE a promotion...YESTERDAY!
