Cocobay Resort in Saint Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda

There is no dividing line between the paradise inside the cottages of Cocobay Resort and the paradise outside – fling open the patio door and let a breeze flow from the aquamarine Caribbean waters over the rustic wood floors and through the crisp white linens of your sleeping quarters. Adirondack chairs anchor a permanent sunbathing spot on the terrace of this waterfront all-inclusive that is equally secluded and connected to life in town.

Slip your toes into floury white sand and let the sun melt away any tension in your shoulders. Float in crystalline waters. Return to dry land for a guided nature walk through the lush hillside with a local medicine man, learning about the healing properties of plants and herbs. Dine on rock shrimp and toast the sunset as waves crash on the rocks below.

We have just returned home from an amazing 10 night stay at cocobay. It was 10 nights of stunning scenery, relaxation, great food, wonderful people and everything we could hope for for a long awaited vacation. We had a very warm welcome from the reception staff and were given the famous rum punch :) check in was swift, yet informative and we were immediately taken to our room (39) which was beautiful. Dinner was booked for us on the day of our arrival, and thereafter you make your own reservation each morning for that evening. A copy of the evenings 4 course menu is available to view when making your reservation & over 10 nights, the menu was never once repeated which is a really nice touch. Men do have to wear full length trousers and collars at dinner but for us, this wasn't an issue. However anything goes at breakfast and lunch as these are a less formal buffet style meal. The people really make this place, always friendly, polite and happy to help. We found Nasasha at reception particularly cheery and helpful and enjoyed daily chit chats. Although we spent most of our time at the beach (small fryes) the 2 pools are very inviting and always have loungers available. There are locals on the beach selling trips, jet ski rides, jewellery and clothing. They are no bother, they too like the hotel staff are just happy to say hi, and are more than happy to accept a "no thank you, have a great day". We did take a jet ski out from Rambo one of the beech vendors and it was a whole lot of fun :) We arranged a taxi's via reception for a trip to St Johns and it was faultless. We were dropped off and asked when we'd like to be picked up which worked perfectly. I only have 2 very small gripes with the accommodation: It would be nice to have a full length mirror in the rooms. I feel I may have had a better sleep if the rooms had curtains. Without them, I was forced to wake with the rising sun meaning sleeping beyond 6:00am wasn't possible.

Let me begin by saying Cocobay is an excellent resort. My wife and I spent the second week of May there. It was our first trip to Antigua so we didn't really know what to expect, aside from reviews on tripadvisor. Our room (room 6) was in a perfect location. We had a view of the ocean from our back deck and private pool. Our pool was in the sun and the water temp was perfect. I had read that the water was cold and the pool was in the shade- that was not our experience. We really liked our pool. It was completely private thanks to the angle of the cottages and the thick foliage. We commented several times that the private pool is a must. The room itself is a small wood cottage- very quaint. It has two rooms, a bedroom and a bathroom. The bedroom is a bed, a mini-fridge, a dresser and a chair. That's it. There is no TV or radio or alarm clock. There is a small AC unit that keeps the place comfortable. It's not elaborate and it's small, but it's very clean and quiet. The beach is excellent. It is beautiful, the water clear, and the view interesting as you can see other islands and across the bay. There are little huts for shade and beach chairs. You DO NOT have to get up early to claim these. I've been to resorts where you have to get up early to mark your spot. This place is not like that. You can ALWAYS find a hut and chairs. It is not crowded at all. The pools are really cool looking and have spectacular views as they are elevated. We didn't spend much time there, though, because we had our own pool. I will say the big pools had a chemical smell to them- like they had too much chlorine. Again, plenty of chairs and umbrellas- not crowded. The food was REALLY good. We have done a lot of all-inclusives in Mexico and Jamaica. The food here was by far the best. You must reserve a time for your evening meal and you have a set menu of four courses with three choices per course. The presentation and the taste were exceptional. Normally, we like to experiment and try new foods, which we did, but we found it hard to not order the pasta each night. It was crazy good. We stayed for 7 nights and menu was COMPLETELY different each night. Lunch was buffet with varied food. Breakfast was a little bland compared to the other meals, but they have an omelette station. There are two bars, one little one by the beach and lower pool and one by the big pool and dining area. The bigger one is pretty nice. O.P., one of the evening bartenders, does a great job and knows his stuff. There is a good liquor selection and it's not all the cheap stuff. I was a little annoyed that the local draft beer, Piton from St. Kitts, ran out on our second day and was replaced by Heineken bottles for the rest of the week. Antigua is smaller than we expected and seems to be a country that tourists are just now discovering. We did a day trip to St. John's. Not impressive. In fact, you will probably quickly discover that the beaches and resorts are pretty much the only areas of interest. A couple of notes: -No need to rent a car. Take a cab from the airport and stay put. -Mosquitoes weren't bad, but bring spray. My wife sprayed her ankles in the evening for dinner. I never saw one in my room. -There is ALWAYS a breeze on the big bars back deck. -Robert will take you out on a mini sail if you ask him. Nice guy.

Recently returned from the most wonderful holiday at Cocobay Resort, Antigua. I cannot really put into words how I feel but here goes. On arrival we were greeted with a rum punch and the most beautiful smiles. Taken to our room, a waterfront suite, we were taken aback by the views. The room itself was perfect in every way, bathtub on the terrace, plunge pool and the most inviting bed covered in tropical flowers. The hotel itself was perfect, rustic yet luxurious. The food was fabulous, every night a different menu. We spent our time on the gorgeous beach, dipping in the warm Caribbean sea. The all inclusive drinks were superb and all served with a smile. I cannot fault the staff and I don't want to single out anyone in particular. They couldn't have been more helpful, particularly sorting out surprises for my partner's 50th birthday, thank you to all of you. My partner had never been to the Caribbean and I chose Antigua because I had enjoyed it so much previously, it didn't disappoint. We will return hopefully very soon.

We returned to Cocobay for our honeymoon after getting engaged there last year. We truly enjoyed our initial short engagement trip at the resort and thought it would be a sentimental, easy, relaxing choice for our honeymoon. It was a unique experience for us to return to a hotel and have a comparison from one visit to the next since we rarely go to the same place twice. Generally, our trip was very nice, very relaxing and lovely. However, a few quirks were enough to encourage us to not repeat trips anymore, because expectations of a prior trip are very hard to live up to: - We booked the same class of room we had the first time, a Deluxe Pool Cottage and requested a relatively private room. We were in #20 the first trip, which was very secluded (good) but the pool was mostly in the shade and therefore very chilly (not so good). This time, we had #15, which was more exposed, especially to the cottage to our left, but our pool was mostly secluded and in full sun (yay!). - Last trip, our room had a Nespresso machine and we were looking forward to delicious coffees each morning on our balcony. #15 had a normal coffeemaker and upon realization when we walked into the room, we asked about getting the Nespresso replacement as we had in the Deluxe Pool Cottage last time. We were told the Deluxe Pool Cottages do not usually have the Nespresso machines, but they would try to get one in our room. Each day, the front desk would ask if we received the machine and each day we had not. By the last day, we were sent a note apologizing about the different voltages of the machine which could not be accommodated in the cottage. They offered a complimentary massage as apology, however as it was our last day and we were unable to take advantage. -One evening, we turned in relatively early after a long day of snorkeling and sailing but were awoken by someone trying to get into our room. After two attempts, we called the front desk and they said it was a staff member trying to spread flower petals and place candles. We had the "privacy shell" engaged, so we were confused why they would still try to enter the room. Last time, they seemed to use our scheduled dinner reservation and came in when they knew we were at dinner. It was a lovely surprise to return after the meal to the romantic ambiance of the flower and candle delivery. It was much less lovely to be awoken by the attempt this time. -We asked about a late checkout because our flight was later in the afternoon. The front desk person said it would be $150 for the extra 90 minutes we would need. This was ok with us, because we really didn't want to be covered in sand on a plane for a few hours. They also had to check to see if the inbound flights/guests would allow for our late departure. The manager of the resort, O'Neal, happened to be at the front desk and sort of overruled the front desk and said they would accommodate us with no problem. We were also not charged for the extra $150 due to his involvement, which was great for us, but had he not been there at that moment, we would have paid. -After some heavy rains one day, we requested replacement towels (as we used our bath towels to mop up some water intrusion) and some additional shampoo. Neither of which were delivered. -We booked a snorkel/circumnavigation trip through the folks on the beach (apparently not associated with the hotel? A confusing situation in itself.) and were not told our designated trip was cancelled because of weather, although other guests were notified. We were able to go the next day with no problem, but the communication left a bit to be desired. To end on a positive note - some items that were different for the better: Beach towels were no longer scarce! Fresh towels are delivered every day in your room, which is a major plus (we actually brought our own beach towels with us, since they were so hard to find on our first visit). Teatime snacks were much improved! After all of those comments, we were pleased with our visit and enjoyed our stay. My comments are mainly directed toward management to improve communication throughout the resort. Our first visit was such a shining example of customer service that a repeat visit that was anything less would be hard to reconcile. If we didn't have the expectations of our first visit, we would not have known anything was different. The resort itself is in a beautiful location with delightful accommodations and you truly will not be disappointed to spend your valuable vacation time at Cocobay. *Make sure you book directly through the resort website, you will receive many perks such as the "buy up" dinner options at no charge. *Also make sure to register with their Membership Club (it's free), you will get a 5% discount.

If you look at Trip Advisor before going somewhere then you're like myself, and like myself you've read the overwhelming positive reviews for Cocobay, so let me cut to the chase and say every positive review is the truth. The staff as a whole were awesome(couldn't remember names sorry) they were very attentive to everything that we asked for and always had a smile, it's almost as if the staff didn't know what the word no was, you can tell the staff are all about making your vacation magical and memorable. We just loved everything Cocobay has to offer and we are sad it was a short trip. The room we stayed in was called Chattel House and I highly recommend staying here if you can, probably has the best location and view of them all as well. The Chattel House also has a plunge pool which my wife and I used constantly to chill out and cool off in the hot Caribbean sun. This stay was for our 10 year anniversary and one night we came back from dinner to our room's floor covered in flower petals and candles which was unexpected and cool of the resort to do something like that. The grounds are landscaped and beautiful and while there is some small amount of walking to get to places, the scenery just makes you forget about the walking part. The 2 pools are infinity style and overlook the beautiful turquoise ocean, honestly you can stay at the pools and never go to the beach. The 2 pools have bars close by if you feel like having drinks while swimming. The dinner was delicious, but small portions just like reviewers have said, but you will not leave hungry. The rest of the food we had was buffet style for breakfast and lunch and were delicious as well. The beach is beautiful and has shade if you need it, only complaint here(public beach so not Cocobay's fault)is the people trying nonstop to sell you jet ski rentals, it was really annoying. The water was beautiful at the beach as you would expect, but there is a lot of seaweed here still attached to the sand under the water. The seaweed that does eventually was up is collected and disposed of every morning like clockwork. I know it has been a lot of reading, but if you are still with me and considering Cocobay I hope I've persuaded you that this resort is the choice for you.
