Cocobay Resort in Saint Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda

There is no dividing line between the paradise inside the cottages of Cocobay Resort and the paradise outside – fling open the patio door and let a breeze flow from the aquamarine Caribbean waters over the rustic wood floors and through the crisp white linens of your sleeping quarters. Adirondack chairs anchor a permanent sunbathing spot on the terrace of this waterfront all-inclusive that is equally secluded and connected to life in town.

Slip your toes into floury white sand and let the sun melt away any tension in your shoulders. Float in crystalline waters. Return to dry land for a guided nature walk through the lush hillside with a local medicine man, learning about the healing properties of plants and herbs. Dine on rock shrimp and toast the sunset as waves crash on the rocks below.

We had an amazing stay at Cocobay in May (second week). The resort is incredibly beautiful and has amazing views from both sides. The sea is the clearest I’ve ever seen and the sand so white! Everytime you walked through the resort it was simply breathtaking. When we arrived they greeted us with rum cocktails whilst one of the staff parked our car for us and the other unpacked the bags and took them to the room. Great service. Our room was lovely with a huge bed and a white mosquito net that looked lovely hanging over it. The shower was good and always had hot water and the balcony was lovely with two large chairs and a very sturdy hammock which we both could lay on! We didn’t book with the hotel so we didn’t get our mini bar refilled each day, however if you needed water in the evening you could ring reception and they would bring it to your door which was great service. Two new beach towels were provided daily, with a towel drop just by reception for the end of each day. The rooms were quickly cleaned each day - with beds made and new shower towels too. It’s worth going to breakfast earlier than later as things tend to run out later on, but there is a lovely egg station where omlettes/eggs are made to order, by a lovely lady. Lunch we thought was one of the best meals – with delicious varied food. There is also a special you can order and this was always delicious! They bring you drinks from the bar and also there is always a dessert option – the ice cream was amazing! Dinner is a 4 course meal – starter, soup, main, dessert, which you order from a menu. The majority of the food was very high standard – one piece of advice would be to always go for the fish! We are at the beach after all. The one time I had a beef brisket wasn’t too good. But on a whole the restaurant was a very high standard. A lady would come round with sorbet around 4/30 and offer to people around the pool which was lovely. Cakes and sandwiches were available later in the afternoon in the bar area, which we ate a few times but we were being quite indulgent! We ate at Sheer Rocks one night which was one of the best meals we have ever had! Beautiful setting and incredible food. Quite pricey but we thought worth it. The cocktails were dreamy! The Pina colada was definitely the best. The bar offered a large selection of drinks and also did a lot of cocktails not on the menu. However my other half was upset not to have a full pint of beer at any point! There were two infinity pools which were beautiful and also a plunge pool which we used quite a bit in the first half of the week – second half the week it was quite busy. We had a massage whilst we were there which was a lovely experience – great massage and the women were lovely and professional. The room we had it in was beautiful, overlooking the sea. They brought us two glasses of sparkling wine when we had finished which we enjoyed in the room. The beach was lovely and there were watersport equipment that cocobay provided – we used the hobie cat, snorkels and kayaks. All great experiences. Each night there was some evening entertainment which was sweet – singers/bands mainly but all were very happy and lovely to watch. Negatives - There was a large generator right next to our room that was very loud. We were room 53. - Towards the end of the week it was hard to get a sunlounger in the shade if past 8.15am. I am sure people came down early before they even went to breakfast, put their towels down, and then went back to their room to get ready! Not sure what the hotel can do about this but it got quite silly towards the end of the stay. - The resort ended up being quite loud towards the end of the week, with groups playing drinking games and very drunk. The start of the week was lovely and serene. - Watch out for giving your room number to the ladies on the beach who book excursions for you! We booked the stingray experience with a lovely lady from the beach, however she decided to ring our room at 6am to check we were coming to give her the money – this was not appreciated considering we had been struggling to sleep due to jetlag! The hotel should really not have put her through at this time. She later made me a bracelet with sea pearls which was beautiful. Worth looking at her stall. - The cocktail service at the bar / beach is quite irregular. We felt we only got offered 1 or 2 times a day at the pool and maybe once at the beach. Not a huge problem as we can just walk to the bar to get a drink! - No shaded areas at the second pool area. A couple of umbrellas would be good. - We paid 26 USD for a small bottle of factor 15 suncream in the cocobay shop which was outrageous. We originally thought it was in Caribbean dollars! Other things we did on our stay was scuba diving with Jolly dive – which was great. The sting ray experience which we booked with the lady on the beach and it was incredible – definitely recommend this. We went to Shirely heights on Sunday evening which was fun – quite touristy but fun steel drums and rum punch and incredible view. We also went to the English habour / nelsons dockyard which was interesting. Definitely would return to Cocobay, I think it is quite good value for money and was a lovely stay. One of the most beautiful resorts I’ve been to. Hope to be back soon.

My husband and I recently stayed here for 5 days to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Cocobay did not disappoint. Upon arriving, the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We loved Janine. She was so sweet and always made it a point to make sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in Warri, which is a premium pool cottage. The views from the room were wonderful. The food for us was a little different but overall good. Breakfast consisted of omelets made to order, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, pastries, cereal etc. Lunch there was always a fish, meat and vegetarian option. Dinner was “a la carte”. The food was a little fancy for us but good nonetheless. If you are looking for a more causal style dining, this is not the place. Dinner attire was smart casual. Women wore dresses while the men wore shorts or pants and collared shirts. Oh, be sure to book with the resort directly as there are special perks to booking direct, including extra dinner meal options and a fully stocked mini fridge in your room. Drinks were always great at the bars. Saskia was our favorite bartender. She was always so sweet. The pool was never crowded. We didn’t have any problems finding some shade. Robert who is in charge of the water sports is great as well! Overall, we had a wonderful first time in Antigua and Cocobay. Thank you for making our anniversary unforgettable, we can’t wait to go back.

My guy and I came here for my birthday and what a wonderful time we had. From the minute we were picked up at the airport until we were dropped off, it was nothing short of amazing. Warm, open, friendly people ready to help and offer suggestions for anything you may need, and such a relaxed atmosphere, we could barely find the energy to leave the resort to do excursions it was so calming. The property is beautiful, the food delicious,(make sure to sign up early for dinner reservations at the desk. They seem to fill up fast) and except for the brief 20 minute shower each morning, Mother Nature did her best to shine down on us every day. This is definitely a 'grown-up' vacation spot. Some live entertainment with dinner at night, but no loud bars and dancing until 200am on site. (You can take a taxi into town if you want to let loose from what I understand though we did not take advantage of this) If you want craziness this place may be a bit too laid back and not what you're looking for. However, if you want to spend quality time with your significant other and remember why you fell in love to begin with, this place fills the bill for sure. Both pools are amazing with breathtaking views of the bay, and the beach is not a disappointment either. (remember, sunblock, sunblock, sunblock) There are kayaks and hobie cats to try and we rented a jet-ski for $60.00 u.s. dollars. 30 minutes for two people, just enough for newbies to give it a try. Everything is priced in U.S. dollars so no need to convert to EC's. The gift shop on site is stocked with toiletries in addition to some souviniers so no worries if you forget something. All in all, we couldn't find anything we didn't like about this place. It would be very difficult for us to say anything negative here. We are already looking into returning this October if possible we enjoyed ourselves so much. Thank you Oneal for an amazing birthday !!!! You and your staff are fantastic !!

The hotel was amazing, starting with the location and the staff...the gourmet food at the restaurant was the exquisite addition to that view of Caribbean Sea and Tropical Mountains along with the sound of birds. The room was excellent, clean, cozy, and quiet. The beach...phenomenal.

We just returned from 4 nights at Cocobay. I will never forget walking into the open air lobby and having my first view of the turquoise bay that the resort overlooks. It is truly breathtaking. Check in was smooth and relaxing as we were quickly checked in, given rum punch, and shown to our room by very friendly staff. We booked a Deluxe Cottage and the room was perfect for us. We had a beautiful view, and we loved the way you could have an open-air experience with the doors open and you can even see the Caribbean sea from the shower! The cottage was very private and we loved our hammock on the balcony. The cottages are quite rustic but we were expecting this and it was part of our Caribbean experience. The bathrooms could probably use an update but they were fine for us. The food at the restaurant was excellent. We enjoyed the a la cart dinners and had plenty of options. I have some food allergies, and I appreciated that the restaurant was accommodating and sensitive to that issue for me. We loved the paninis by the pool at lunch. The drinks were awesome - the bartenders did a great job with mixed drinks and cocktails and the wines were very, very good for house wines. I thought we might get tired of only having one restaurant, but they change the menu daily so you get very good variety. We had some of the best fish we have ever had at Cocobay. I cannot imagine any place having better pools or views than Cocobay. To be able to sit in an infinity pool and see the most beautiful Caribbean bay was incredible. There were plenty of pool or beach chairs without having to get up early to reserve anything. Although the resort was at capacity during our stay, it never felt crowded and we never had to wait for anything except eggs in the morning. This resort is truly peaceful, relaxing, and romantic. At Cocobay, you can really tell that the staff cares about the resort and the guests, and they were all so warm and friendly. O'Neal, the manager, greeted us on our first day and it was such a nice personal touch. There are a few names I cannot remember but Sofia, Yasmine, Janine (I think that was her name - at check-in), and Jermaine were particularly helpful to us. The only issue we had was constant ants in our bathroom but Cocobay was very responsive to treating the problem and we understand that while staying so close to nature there are bound to be some critters. If you want a modern room and a resort with loud music and constant activities, Cocobay is probably not for you. If you want a peaceful, romantic setting and the most incredible views in Antigua, don't hesitate to visit Cocobay. We rarely say we will re-visit somewhere, but my husband and I both have said we want to come back to Cocobay someday!! Thank you Cocobay for such an amazing holiday!!
