I’ve been to various all-inclusives in the past and researched visiting a more upscale all-inclusive option this time around. Cocobay Resort was featured by Travel + Leisure as an affordable, upscale option so I decided to book. Pros: - Extremely friendly and accommodating staff - Beautifully maintained grounds - Upgraded rooms: Beautiful views from deluxe pool villas. Stayed here and it was amazing to have our own plunge pool, deck and hammock. Essentially it was also like having an outdoor shower since there were doors you could open right next to the inside shower. - Stiff drinks with premium liquor selection - Access to two different beaches - Access to two different pools - Available (for a fee) shuttle to Shirley Heights - Low-key vibe to decompress and go back home feeling refreshed and relaxed - On-site spa with THE BEST masseuses (tip: get the signature massage) Cons: - Food: As this was more of an upscale resort I anticipated the food being a bit better than it was. Breakfast buffet was a bit skimpy (only had potatoes one of the days) and a lunch buffet as well—would’ve liked the option for a menu similar to dinner for lunch instead of the buffet. Dinner was by far the best of the three with more creative options each night and presentation on point. That’s really the only con I have, but since food is a huge component at an all-inclusive is why it’s a 4 instead of a 5. Also, a tip for the ladies: if you’d like to use a hair dryer bring your own. The one in the room gets overheated quickly and you must let it cool down before continuing use. I wasn’t sure about outlets either but they’re same as in the U.S. so we didn’t need to bring an adapter which was awesome! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our trip here!

I find it difficult to know how to review this resort, it was certainly different from anywhere we have stayed before. The hotel is very rustic, laid back and has no frills. We travelled as a party of 4 (2 couples) and arrived mid afternoon after a good flight with Virgin Atlantic. Passport control at Antigua airport was horrendous and took about 1 1/2 hours. after which we were transferred by mini bus to our hotel. On arrival we were met with a welcome glass of rum punch and checked in very efficiently. We were then shown to our chalet by the bell boys. We stayed in F1 and F2 situated at the very top of the hill and as far away from the hotel centre as you could get - fortunately we are all quite fit but could be a problem if you are not as it is uphill all the way. I was a little disappointed with our accommodation, I did not expect ultra modern, but found it a little too rustic for my taste. Basically it was two wooden chalets with tin roofs connected by a small sitting room. Our room contained a Double bed which was fairly comfortable and was protected by a mosquito net (an absolute necessity as these bugs really do bite here), a low table and one dining room chair. the wardrobe was an open hanging rail with a few shelves alongside. The bathroom was ok but on two evenings we had no hot water and had to have cold showers(not pleasant). Also a small point but the mesh screen on the bathroom window looked like the inside of my vacuum cleaner and was clogged with dirt. There were a few other niggles but nothing major. On the plus side, our view was amazing. The saving grace for this hotel are its staff what lovely people they are, special mentions have to go to Mr Gore, Sasha and Deverne in the resteraunt who were always there happy and smiling. The food however was not all that special. In comparison to other hotels that we have stayed in the choice was very limited. ...breakfast was OK but the same every day. Lunch again was almost the same each time. Afternoon tea was small sandwiches and a cake or biscuit with tea or coffee. quite often there was not enough to go round. The evening was fine dining. large plates - small food a different menu each day with 4 choices of starter, soup, 4 mains or pasta of the day and desert but very small portions. The wine was very palatable especially the rose. The other problems I had with this hotel were its lack of entertainment, no TV, very poor telephone signal and no wifi connection unless you paid for the service and considering the fact that it is quite remote there is nothing to do. We did do a few trips which were great. The Virgin Dundee island trip was great, our driver Bruce was fun and very informative, Kayaking in the mangroves was amazing and the snorkelling at bird island was brilliant we actually saw a ray as well as loads of tropical fish a great day. We also went on a catamaran tour with Wadadli cats again another great day. and of course Shirley heights on the Sunday night was brilliant with a huge steel band and a great group who did Bob Marley songs and had everyone joining in, not to be missed. Overall yes there were things we didn't care for but overall we had a lovely time on beautiful Antigua. Would I go again, probably not, but its a big world out there with lots of others places to see.

We booked this hotel for the first time,after a very busy year. It offered exactly what we needed- time out from a busy schedule. The hotel is a small boutique hotel situated on a small beach. We had booked a deluxe cottage. It had a really nice view of the beach. The ceiling to floor windows and balcony doors meant that we could enjoy the view to the fullest. The furniture in the room is not all shiny and new but very rustic. This means that it may not suit a person looking for luxury but suited our needs very well. The doors to the bathroom opened out towards the sea as well as into the room and had the feel of bringing the outside indoors. We appreciated that. The flora around the hotel is varied and colourful and we enjoyed looking at all the tropical plants and their colours. It looked very beautiful. The wildlife around the hotel enhanced our holiday too. We saw a variety of birds, lizards and chameleons. The food at the hotel is very much about quantity rather than quality. We are vegetarians and it took the hotel staff a couple of days to appreciate that but after that we ate the most wholesome and delicious food one could ask for. For my two boys ,the staff made us chips and anything extra that we asked for. Always with a smile on their face. There are two relatively small but rather lovely infinity pools in the hotel, however we spent most of our time on the beach. It is a small but very cosy beach with friendly locals there. They are lovely and do not really intrude on your holiday. The water is calm enough for a good swim. We saw some beautiful sunsets most evenings from the upper pool. The whole hotel is ideal for peace, tranquility and romance. We loved the fact that we didn’t have to queue up for anything in the restaurant and there were plenty of sun beds available at any time of the day. Therefore no rush for anything. The relaxed atmosphere was just what we needed. The only con of the location is the mosquitoes. Despite using anti mosquito sprays etc we got bitten quite a lot and hence would advice you to come prepared. We would like to thank all the staff who made our stay so comfortable, the assistant general manager Walter, the reception staff, the restaurant staff and the kitchen staff. A special thank you goes to Kathleen in the restaurant and to Maud in the kitchen who took the time to understand our needs and then went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Thank you once again. We hope to visit again very soon.

This was our first trip to Cocobay Resort. We wanted to try a slightly cheaper alternative to Galley Bay which we have visited twice before. We arrived at about 5.30pm and we were given a rum punch as soon as we went to the desk to check in. Check in was efficient and in no time we were shown to our room, followed quickly by our luggage. We had booked a deluxe cottage. It was quite a strange set up, as when you went in through the front door, you were in a lounge with 2 couches, a stand with a coffee maker and a fridge. Another door led out to an open space with a balcony. Then another door led to our bedroom and bathroom, so when it was raining you had to run between the two rooms. The bedroom was large with a double bed. It had a mosquito net over it (a first for us in the Caribbean and a welcome sight). We had a large bathroom with twin vanity units and a nice shower. There was always hot water whenever we needed it which was good. The balcony outside the bedroom has a hammock although if you were in it, it was a bit of a squash for another person to sit on the balcony. On our first morning we had a look around the rest of the resort. The main pool is situated below the bar area and is quite small. Consequently all the sun loungers are all very close together. There is another pool nearer to the beach which is larger, more spaced out, and has its own small beach bar. We prefer the beach and only used the pool once. The beach is easily accessible with plenty of sun loungers. Friendly locals visit every day and there is a stall selling souvenirs, trinkets, dresses and wraps. There are also locals selling excursions (Wadadli Cats, Jeep Safaris, Stingray City etc.), as well as the usual Jet Ski merchants. They are persistent but unobtrusive, friendly, and will take a polite ‘no’ for an answer. There is also a guy called Lyndon from whom we bought a fresh lobster. We took it up to the Restaurant Manager and he kindly arranged for it to be cooked for us for dinner. Nice touch. The food was good – good variety at breakfast, and lunch is buffet and with freshly cooked fish. Evening meals replicated our usual experience with Caribbean cuisine in that they tended to be too complicated and exotic (haute cuisine?). It would be nice to occasionally have a choice of simpler food as there were a few occasions when there was nothing we liked the look of. We did find out at the end of the holiday that we could have ordered fries if we wanted! There is a second restaurant called Sheer Rocks. This is available to visitors as well as resort guests . We did not use it but we viewed the menus and the prices were not cheap. The staff were all great, very helpful, and always smiling. A couple of small complaints. The TV didn’t work. The WI FI was US$8 per day for 2 devices, which over a 2 week stay works out expensive at an extra US$112. And in this day and age WIFI should be free, especially when the overall holiday is not inexpensive. Also in the Virgin brochure, it stated that all local beers would be available on all inclusive. Not so. The local Antigua beer is Wadadli. In the bar they only served Heineken, hardly local. If you did want Wadadli as part of the all-inclusive package you had to be staying in a Plantation House room, the most expensive. Otherwise the price of a small bottle is US$4 a bottle. They did, however, manage to source a supply of draft Wadadli towards the end of our second week. We have never been to a resort with such limitations on beer. That said the choice of spirits was good and varied. Notwithstanding these niggles, we enjoyed our stay very much. We would not hesitate to return and would recommend Cocobay to anyone who wants a similar, but less expensive alternative to Galley Bay.

We arrived in this idyllic resort and had a wonderful holiday prior to Hurricane Irma arriving (after approximately 8 days). The cottage was beautiful, wooden huts with a large comfortable bed, ensuite opening onto the verandah and beautiful views of the sea and bay. Our room was quite a walk uphill from the reception area and as my mobilty hasn’t been very good recently reception organised for us to change cottages to one closer to reception/bar/restaurant area. The food was fantastic, cocktails amazing and House wines a very good standard. We had an all inclusive package which is recommended as the drinks were pricy if not part of this package. We enjoyed the main pool by the bar and the beaches locally were some of the best we have experienced in the Caribbean. The panini’s at the beach bar were lovely and we also had afternoon tea twice which was pleasant but nothing out of the ordinary, but we presume the reason why was very few guests used the service. When it’s was apparent that Hurricane Irma was a real threat O’Neal the hotel manager worked speedily to transfer us to villas in Non Such Bay on the other side of the island. All the staff worked amazingly during this fraught time and couldn’t do enough to make the transition as swift as possible. We had to stay on the Island a day longer than scheduled as the airport was closed however O’Neal organised a reduced rate for us to stay. All in all we felt blessed to be in such good hands as O’Neil and his very able team of workers. Thank you. We rarely return to a resort but would make an exception for this property 😊
