Cocobay Resort in Saint Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda

There is no dividing line between the paradise inside the cottages of Cocobay Resort and the paradise outside – fling open the patio door and let a breeze flow from the aquamarine Caribbean waters over the rustic wood floors and through the crisp white linens of your sleeping quarters. Adirondack chairs anchor a permanent sunbathing spot on the terrace of this waterfront all-inclusive that is equally secluded and connected to life in town.

Slip your toes into floury white sand and let the sun melt away any tension in your shoulders. Float in crystalline waters. Return to dry land for a guided nature walk through the lush hillside with a local medicine man, learning about the healing properties of plants and herbs. Dine on rock shrimp and toast the sunset as waves crash on the rocks below.

We decided to book Cocobay Resort for both mine & my husbands’ 50th birthdays….OMG what can I say about this hotel/resort, it’s absolutely stunning! From the moment you drive up & enter the resort you seem to be in a different world with beautiful lush greenery & a view to die for. On arrival we were greeted in reception by the lovely Nasasha and a welcoming cold rum punch. Sasha gave us all the information we needed & we were then shown to our lovely little cottage. We stayed in a standard cottage we didn’t have a sea view but our view was of the beautiful gardens filled with colourful birds, even humming birds & mongoose. Standard cottages do have air con which can be paid to the hotel when you get there, we paid $20US per night & I must say it is a must. The cottages are as they describe rustic charm painted in pastel colours dotted around the resort! Our standard cottage had a lovely king size bed covered with a mozzie net & ceiling fan. We also had a fridge, coffee maker & safe in the room. The bedroom has doors opening out on to a large balcony with chairs & a hammock the bathroom has doors opening out to the gardens. We heard some people complaining of ants in their room but we didn’t have that problem. There is only one restaurant on the resort which is opposite the bar area. You need to book your evening meal time in the reception area in the mornings every day. Breakfast is self-service with an egg station for poached/scrambled/omelettes. Lunch is also self-service with fresh fish & a meat option cooked right in front of you but dinner is a four course waiter serviced meal every night. The evening meals are quite small but it’s a four course meal with bread rolls which we thought was more than enough. Both my husband & I thought the food was very good indeed & you definitely didn’t go hungry! My husband even asked for cheesecake one night & was advised that it would be made for the next evening! There is a dress code for the evening where men have to wear long trousers & collared shirt. We didn’t book direct with the hotel so if we wanted the steak & lobster you paid a supplement at the end of your holiday. The lower pool area also has a bar which serves Panini’s in the afternoon if you don’t want to go to the restaurant. There is another restaurant within the grounds called Sheer Rocks this is not part of Cocobay we never ate there but it was busy everyday with people coming from all over the island, they had several wedding parties whilst we were there. We spoke to several people who had eaten there & they said it was absolutely gorgeous. Afternoon tea, sandwiches & cake is served in the bar area at 4pm if you are still hungry! The views from the restaurant & both pools which are infinity pools are breath taking, the turquoise crystal clear water is amazing & to sit & watch the pelicans dive for their food every day is fantastic. The bar is looked after by Opie & Tony who looked after us very well, when they knew what we were drinking we never had to ask for a drink it was always there ready & waiting. It is all premium branded drinks including fizzy wine (which they call champagne). The cocktails are lovely especially the Pina Coladas! There’s not much evening entertainment, I think it was 5/6 nights per week but very low key and it only lasted a couple of hours & finished about 10pm but then most people were in bed early every night & there were only a few of us left at the bar every night. We went on the Excellence catamaran day trip around the island which was very good we were driven to St Johns to pick up the catamaran & the crew make it a day to remember showing you all the sights including Opera Winfrey & Eric Clapton mansions! We stopped off for a swim/snorkel and had a lunch of chicken, rice & salad with lots of beer, rum punch or the captains special. We also went to Shirley Heights on the Sunday for the sunset unfortunately it was a bit cloudy that day so didn’t get a good one but the steel band was amazing. Mozzie repellent is an absolute must I covered myself in it but was still bitten quite a few times. Would we go back, yes we would without a shadow of a doubt, Cocobay is a stunning place, we met a lovely bunch of people & was well looked after by the lovely hotel staff & had a fantastic holiday.

I'm kind of embarrassed this has taken me so long to review....I just kept thinking I didn't have time to completely do it justice. The whole reason we ended up going here was because of all the reviews I read on here. Better late than never I suppose. My husband and I got married in June 2016 and we did a destination wedding in Florida therefore due to vacation days we were unable to take an immediate honeymoon. We waited until December 2016 right before Christmas to take it. We are both in our late 20s FYI. You know when you go somewhere and you've seen pictures before and it ends up looking nothing like that? This is the opposite. We were picked up by our previously arranged transportation through a company the resort uses. It's about a 40 minute ride from the airport. Seems very poor but I felt extremely safe the whole ride. When you get to the resort it is gated and has security. We were dropped off at the front and given drinks and cool towels during the check-in. The view when you a lot in is unbelievable. We were helped to our premium waterfront cottage and our bags were taken. The view from the room took our breath away! I'm going to break things down by category to make it easier to read. Room We had a premium waterfront suite with a plunge pool. It was named Pepper Pot. We called it the Barbie cottage since it was Pink! I actually requested Fungee when I booked so I don't know what happened there. We were thrilled with what we ended up with though so whatever! It's far enough away from the front desk and restaurant that you felt private but not so far that you had to walk forever. It had hardwood floors throughout, king size bed and most importantly A/C! The bathroom area is a double sink and shower that opens to the outside. We loved that! The back doors open to a plunge pool, view of the ocean and a claw foot tub. The pool didn't get much sun so it was freezing. I only got in once for picture! We actually used the tub a lot more. We had some ants off and on but it's a tropical island so I guess that's expected. There is a safe in the closet if you need it! Food I didn't expect the food to be so good. My husband and I are both picky so we were a little worried. We were able to order any premium items for free because of the room we booked. Breakfast was a buffet with an omelette station, meats, pastries, fruit and fresh juices. It is only served during certain hours just FYI. Lunch was seafood, salad, pasta, burgers etc. We had fresh shark cooked right in front of us and it was amazing! There are paninis at the beach bar after noon as well. Dinners must be scheduled in the AM. We never had a problem getting the time we wanted. The menu was different every night. It's like a four course dinner and we always found something we liked. The food was seriously really good! Drink They had top shelf liquor and they're not afraid to pour it up strong!! The tap beer isn't always the coldest so stick to the bottles if you can! One night after dinner we were at the bar in the main resort area and the bartender let my husband and another guy get out all the runs and taste them all. Only complaint is the beach bar didn't open until like 10 am and sometimes we wanted a mimosa or something to take down with us. Beach Beach is secluded and yes there are people selling things when you walk down but they seriously barely bothered us at all. I mean it's nothing like Jamaica! I bought one bracelet but it's only because I really liked it. The jet ski people were fine too. We actually found them entertaining! Chairs and umbrellas were easy to get. The ocean drops off quickly when you get in at the shore so be careful. I borrowed a snorkel one day and didn't see much. Service Top notch! We only had one employee that acted like we were inconveniencing her by asking for a drink at the beach bar. All others bent over backwards with a smile for us. I truly think gets accommodate any request! This is what makes this a special place besides the view. The overall feel of this place is rustic luxury. I can't stress how amazing this place is. Get the waterfront view - it's worth every penny. We loved it so much we're going back in 2018!

My husband and I went to cocobay resort for our 5 year anniversary and it was great! We stayed at a premium waterfront suite called Calypso. We would recommend this suite because there wasn't many trees/bushes blocking the beautiful view. Below are some of the things we loved and what we thought needed improvements. Pros:1.The views were amazing everywhere. picture perfect. 2.We loved our private plunge pool; we stayed there mostly. 3. I loved the manager O'Neil. I brought a floatie with me but there wasn't any air pumps at the hotel. Somehow O'Neil managed to have someone pumped it up for me which helped me a lot since i do not swim. 4.Sheerrocks was also one of my fav but it was not part of the all inclusive package. We reserved a daybed and the plunge pool a week before we arrived. 5.Staff were helpful. I love the hotel cat Jasmine, she greeted us ever time we went to the restaurant. 6. As it for dinner, Lobsters and steaks are must haves. I had 5nights of lobsters and 1 night of steak. Cons: 1. We had a lot of ants in our cottage. Please bring bug spay. And also, do not forget to use bug spray at night during dinner, you will get bitten and itch like crazy later on. 2. Food selection could be improved for some days. breakfast was good. Lunch needed improvements; it was more like the foodcourt food at the mall. I did enjoy curry beef and rice, but not so much the hamburgers. To be honest, i didn't think it was comparable to the all-inclusive food in Cancun. 3. Again, bring your own bug spray, it's a bit expensive to purchase one there. 4. One lady at the lower pool bar did not seem too happy to make us drinks. I didn't know if that was her personality or if she was moody that day. We did not go back again to that bar because we did not want to bother her again. 5. Lower pool water is deep; be careful if you are short like me ;) 6. coffee made from coffee maker wasn't hot. I like my coffee hot. Overall, we still recommend cocobay resort. The views are truly beautiful and breathtaking.

We spent a week at Cocobay to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and enjoyed every moment. The cottages are lovely and private, the grounds around them are lush and kept immaculate, and some of the nicest people on Earth work there. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and we were able to try some local dishes mixed in as well. The beach areas were clean and the water amazing ~ so calm and clear. The resort had a sophistication to it that other all-inclusives just can't come close to and it truly was a pleasure to wake every day in paradise.

This resort was absolutely perfect for our honeymoon. It's all inclusive and it's adults only, making it perfect for anyone looking to get away without distraction. All of the non-motorized activities (kayaking, snorkeling, and a small sail boat). The beach was pristine with crystal clear water and plenty of space to spread out. The resort has chairs on the beach that you can use at any time. There are two infinity pools that overlook the ocean with bars practically attached to both. The cottages are the cutest things I've ever seen! They are the perfect size for a couple, in my opinion. What set this resort apart is the service from the staff. They went out of their way to learn our names and to accommodate any needs we had. Our flight got delayed getting to Antigua and we missed one night of our stay and they pushed back our reservation for us for an extra day, no questions asked. That left a great impression on us. The only thing my husband and I didn't really love was the food. Neither of us eat seafood so dinner options were really sparse.
