Hermitage Bay in Saint Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda

An unpaved road on the southeast coast of Antigua leads to Hermitage Bay, a collection of 25 villas clustered around the brilliant blue Caribbean Sea that offers a place to relax, restore and reconnect to a deeper self. Suites are airy and soothing, constructed from purpleheart, greenheart and other woods from sustainably managed forests in Guyana. Daily meditation and yoga classes, along with the natural beauty of deserted beaches, bring a sense of balance nurtured by caring staff.

Match your breath to the breeze rustling through fragrant frangipiani and oleander. Go for a swim among coral fish and dine in a grove of almond trees on a salad from the kitchen’s own organic produce garden. Gaze out at the silhouettes of Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis on the horizon while sipping a glass of prosecco.

My wife and I stayed at hermitage for our honeymoon. What made our trip was the staff. They were friendly, available, and accommodating (never seemed inconvenienced!!). We also enjoyed the activities available: scuba, couple's massage, catamaran sailing. This is perfect if you're looking for a more intimate vacation with your spouse. We wanted to escape the crowd, so we avoided the larger resorts. It was everything we wanted. We look forward to making another trip in the future so we can visit the island more

If you do not like gorgeous accommodations, amazing food, a five star location, and ten star service, then Hermitage Bay is not for you. My husband and I traveled to Hermitage Bay for our honeymoon in May. After reading all the fantastic reviews and looking at pictures, we had high expectations. Hermitage exceeded every single one! From beginning to end, there is nothing we would have changed about our stay. The airport transfer the resort arranged for us was quick, comfortable, and private both ways. We stepped out of our car straight into a huge hug from Mikel, and I knew it would be the perfect vacation. We stayed in hillside suite #36, and could not have been happier. Before we arrived, we requested a suite as high up the hill as possible, and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Our private pool and views were incredible, and the furnishings and finishes had the luxury and Caribbean feel we were looking for. The view from the outdoor shower was incredible, and the enormous tub was such a treat! The golf cart transport up and down the hill was quick and easy. I don't think we ever waited more than 3 minutes for a ride! The biggest surprise for me was the food. Every meal we had at Hermitage was fantastic, from breakfast to canapes to dessert! Chef Desroy is truly world class. We attended a cooking class with him, and he even sent us home with the recipe for our favorite dish! Rozlyn took such wonderful care of us at the restaurant, and her feline assistants Snowflake and Sparkplug brought so much charm and character to our dining experiences! The staff was so careful about my husband's nut allergy. When Rozlyn found out that we were leaving before lobster night, she had the chef prepare us a special lobster tail entree for our final dinner! We also loved the honeymoon champagne breakfast in our villa on our last morning. The live music during and after dinner was great, and we had so much fun with Mervin and Anthony at the bar! The cocktails are fantastic and plentiful, who can ask for more? The beach was gorgeous, with constant drink service, cold towels, and fruit every hour! The water sports staff was great, and we enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding (very unsuccessfully), and a guided sailing tour of the bay! Our massages at the spa were incredible too. There is no doubt in my mind that Hermitage Bay is the best kept secret in the Caribbean. The location is spectacular, but it is the staff that puts a vacation at Hermitage over the top. The vacation was worth every penny and then some! We are planning our return trip already!

My husband and I travel frequently to various places around the Caribbean and Hermitage Bay is our new favorite. There are so many places to explore, so we seldom return to the same place twice. However, we will make an exception for Hermitage Bay. The resort property is beautiful and carefully, thoughtfully sited to be part of the surrounding environment. But what makes the resort exceptional is the outstanding service and friendly atmosphere the staff creates and encourages. To a person, they made us feel warmly welcomed and entirely comfortable. The food is top notch, farm to table and the menu constantly changes. I do not know how the kitchen delivers such consistently great food with this kind of variety. The beach is beautiful and the bay makes for good swimming, snorkeling and water sports - whatever you feel like doing. I like the fact that there is decent snorkeling off the beach - a lot of resorts lack this advantage. We also took a quick trip by motorboat to another reef to snorkel - it is easy to do this, or go fishing or sailing. When you are tired from everything the resort offers, retreat to your own plunge pool or comfy room to recharge. If you are looking for a relaxing and satisfying warm weather get away, you have found it at Hermitage Bay. 5 stars are not enough.
