Hermitage Bay in Saint Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda

An unpaved road on the southeast coast of Antigua leads to Hermitage Bay, a collection of 25 villas clustered around the brilliant blue Caribbean Sea that offers a place to relax, restore and reconnect to a deeper self. Suites are airy and soothing, constructed from purpleheart, greenheart and other woods from sustainably managed forests in Guyana. Daily meditation and yoga classes, along with the natural beauty of deserted beaches, bring a sense of balance nurtured by caring staff.

Match your breath to the breeze rustling through fragrant frangipiani and oleander. Go for a swim among coral fish and dine in a grove of almond trees on a salad from the kitchen’s own organic produce garden. Gaze out at the silhouettes of Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis on the horizon while sipping a glass of prosecco.

So listen up folks! There is a lot that is good about this hotel. You can't beat the attitude of the staff, they are all engaged, upbeat, and very good at their jobs. All are happy to chat with the guests, make them welcome and nothing is a problem for them. The food is outstanding. We even caught one of the chefs picking raw tamarind from the trees outside our room to make a delicious glaze. This is an all inclusive resort with one, yes just one restaurant. You think that after a week it will drive you crazy. But breakfast, lunch and dinner are all quite different experiences. The variation of menu is daily, none of this "we change the menu once a week" stuff. Always something that is interesting, different and enticing, and the quality is just superb. The Beach is well run, and very well serviced. Plenty of space with no rushing for loungers. The gardens are delightful and very well maintained. The pool is clean and just on the Beach, and again very well looked after. come the "buts"..... the rooms are very dark both internally and externally, so seem very gloomy. They are clean and well serviced, but only have shutters and insect screens to the windows and doors. So there is no way that any aircon can fully function. The cool air slips past the shutters, and through the insect shutters. You see, there is no glass. Our aircon was hugely noisy, and it was a retro fitted unit to a wall next to the bed. The original, now defunct unit was still in the ceiling. Sleep was very difficult. So earplugs were used.....not what you would expect. We were sorry to leave, but won't return, as a week of poor sleep does not make a great holiday, even if the rest of the hotel is quite perfect.

My husband and I just returned from our third visit to Hermitage Bay, and it just keeps getting better every time. The people who work at this resort deserve a standing ovation — they greet you with a smile at every turn and their sunshine shines down on you at all times. To say they make you feel at home is an understatement. Every staff member simply wants their guests to relax and enjoy their vacation in this most beautiful and serene setting. We stayed in a hilltop pool suite - the views are truly out of this world. And the outdoor area of your room is the most beautiful living, lounging, dining and swimming area you can imagine. The food was excellent, even better than our last visit a few years ago. Creative and delicious, and many options at all meals. We just can’t say enough about this very special place. We literally just got off the plane back home and are already looking forward to our next visit. THANK YOU ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE AT HERMITAGE BAY!

If you are looking for a very relaxing quiet place this could be the place for you. We came here after a hectic few days in Barbados. We have just relaxed, eaten and drank. There I a beautiful beach with turquoise sea. There is pool area adjacent to the bar. You can have anything you want to drink at any time. The staff here are very polite and attentive. It was our anniversary while we were here and they made it very special. There were only couples here while we were here. The accommodation is beautiful we stayed in a garden suite which was one row back from the beach. A great place to just chill.

We came down for our honeymoon and the driver told us when we arrived, that he had a lot of people cry when they left, My wife was crying so hard when we were on our way to the airport. It was the best trip I've been on. If you are considering this stop and book it. You wont regret it.

This was the perfect place to have a honeymoon. It is very quaint and not touristy at all so its the perfect place to relax and unwind especially after the craziness of planning a wedding. The staff really made the trip that much more enjoyable as well. Everyone we came in contact with made us feel so welcome and like we had been friends for years! The water sports were also very easily accessible. They do not have jet skis but they have someone ride some over if you want to ride them and its just a small extra fee. And lets talk about the rooms!! We stayed in one of the rooms up the mountain and the views were seriously breathtaking. There was one day we didn't even leave the room because of our plunge pool that we had. Couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our first week of being married.
