Tiamo Resort in South Andros Island, Bahamas

The journey to Tiamo is an adventure in itself: There’s a 15-minute plane ride from Nassau and a boat ride into a sheltered cove on an island with a rich culture and only 2,000 residents. The paradisiacal beach is perched on the world’s third-largest barrier reef, where the Tongue of the Ocean drops 6,000 feet into underwater landscapes that served as backdrops in James Bond movies. Explore the crystalline waters with the aid of Tiamo’s PADI dive center, or while staying dry in a transparent canoe.

Instead of gravitating to the beach, wander through the wild side of San Andros by stepping off your private terrace into a thicket of rainforest. Watch for rock iguanas and indigenous orchids in the underbrush. As you pass a family of mangrove trees on the coastline, follow the call of circling egrets into calm ocean waters and float. Sink into al fresco loveseats illuminated by candlelight for dinner, listening to seafood crackle on the grill.

We spent 9 nights at Tiamo Resort and wished we could have stayed another 9 nights! We loved the Resort. The food was excellent....a limited menu but great choices. The chef did a great job and came out to meet us. The staff are excellent.....from Wilfred to Nicolas to Miss Audrey, Miss Pinkie and Miss Koko. All our needs were met. We stayed in Villa 10 and loved it....extra room, 2 bathrooms, large, heated plunge pool and wonderful views of the spectacular sunsets each night. Housekeeping was also good and attentive. The pool was cleaned each day. There was a screened porch and we used it. We also had a very private portion of the lovely beach. We scuba dived with an excellent dive master at the resort. The diving was very good with sharks seen on every dive along with good, recovering coral and a lot of different fish. We are experienced divers and we enjoyed the laid back, easy diving. We each had a massage with Pollyanna who did a great job. We will return!

We've enjoyed our stay year after year. The staff is wonderful, The food is great. Bone fishing in the morning and diving in the afternoon, followed by cocktails and candlelit dinners under the stars. What could be better?

Great location and excellent food. We were the only guests in the resort. Rooms are rather small. They would need to equip the bungalows with a good coffee machine. And please let the guests decide if they want to watch TV or not.

The staff at Tiamo are absolutely wonderful and professional. They have things ready for you that you don't even realize you would want/need. The island and the resort itself is absolutely incredible. We loved the entire staff, Wilfred, Nicolas, August, and Marie-Felice (?masseuse) So many things to see right off the resort. The bonefishing was the best in the world. The food is exquisite, Chef Keith does an amazing job. We will definitely be returning to this resort in the near future!!!

Great experience. Why the location was quite impressive, I was most impressed with the level of service from the staff. Not only was I acknowledged and recognized on a first-name basis, but the staff went out of their way to ensure that all unexpected travel issues were quickly resolved and that my stay as a soloist was as top notch to that of the couple's attending the resort. Being able to take a Scuba class with a friendly and knowledge instructor was also a plus! Highly recommend as an unplug and relax destination. Do come prepared for some unfriendly insects during the evening. Oils are provided, however highly recommend being prepared with garmets and repellents.
