We are currently here at Galley Bay. We have traveled all over the carribean so we know things are different than in the U.S. My requirement for a relaxing vacation are to be able to sit on the beach, under an umbrella with an unobstructed view and not have to listen to anyone's conversations, children crying or people smoking. I really need to relax. I have been to Antigua before so I know the beaches are beautiful. Last time I stayed at Jolly Beach and we wanted to go higher end since the kids weren't traveling with us. When we arrived at check in, they gave us a cold towel and a drink, which was very nice(and needed). We got a golf cart tour of the place and were taken to our room. We were told we were upgraded to a 'deluxe oceanfront' room. All the rooms are ocean front and I'm not sure what the difference between deluxe and standard. The bathrooms do not look like they do on the website. Our deluxe bathroom needs some refurbishments. We do have a nice view from our room and can hear the ocean at night. Every room is given 2 chairs under a fixed straw umbrella(ie. can't be moved). Ours is stationed behind a large bush, which obstructs my view of the beautiful beach. Why is this a problem? This is the Caribbean and I'm trying hard not to get sunburned, but I did pay to actually look at the beach. I asked for a mobile umbrella, but they do not have one. They sent somebody to prune the bush, but they would actually have to take out 1/2 the plant, which isn't appropriate. There seems to be no solution. Guest services is not able to help me make this a great experience. If I move my chairs so it's under a tree, but away from the view of the bush, I am now basically sitting on top of the next room's space, which isn't right. Another issue I have is that this is not a non-smoking property. People are smoking all over the place and it's nasty when you are lying on the beach and a cloud comes your way. For the most part, the beach is quiet. It's definitely rougher than the other beach I stayed on in Antigua, but not a deal breaker. The food has been edible at best. The breakfast has been the best meal. We have eaten at the Sea Grape for dinner three times now since this has been our only option so far. Every night we have been one of the first couples to arrive and every night we have felt forgotten. Last night, we left before the dessert arrived b/c I'm absolutely sure they forgot about us. It's been frustrating. Also, there is an option to pay $25 to have the lobster, but I was told it's a half a lobster. Um, really? The other restaurant is an extra $42/person, but since I already paid for an all inclusive restaurant, why would I pay more? The 3rd restaurant is only open Thursday Friday and Saturday's. However, I have eaten there for lunch and it has been a better experience than the Sea Grape. Be prepared: all the food is very, very, very SALTY!! Another annoyance for a resort that caters to couples is there is no room service. The bartenders have all been very nice but the quality of the drinks varies. There is no waitstaff talking drink orders on the beach or pool. Housekeeping has been great. The spa was wonderful. We did a couples massage today which was fantastic!! Basically, I needed a break from everything and I came here to relax. I got the quiet, but I didn't feel that staff went out of their way to make things fabulous for us. I felt the staff at Jolly Beach went above and beyond. Needless to say, I'm disappointed at Galley Bay. I have 2 more days left so maybe things will change.

We absolutely loved this place....Quiet, serene, beautiful. Every single employee that we came in contact with was wonderful! Food was great! Different menus each night at dinner. Great seafood! We also liked the fact that this is a smaller, very private resort. We can only hope to go back again one day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Stayed at Galley Bay resort for 10 nights early July. What an amazing place to holiday and chill out. The all the staff and management were superb, would never walk passed without saying hello. Food in all restaurants was of a very high standard. The management are in the process of upgrading rooms. Bar service great with premium brands, our first experience of all inclusive.

This was my first time to the carribean, I went on a trip by myself and not only was the island of Antigua the best choice but Galley Bay was by far the best! There is exquisite food, impeccable music and memorizing views. But the staff was so amazing, they truly got to know you and loved what they did. Not to mention the other guests being super friendly as well, it's a small resort and you all become friends. I cannot speak enough about galley bay!

Spent 2 weeks end of June, fantastic holiday. Flew with BA, slight delay both ways but the crew in board were great. Now for the hotel: after being allocated the wrong type of room, we expressed our views and very quickly were shown another which was ready for us the next afternoon. Have to say that was the only downside of the holiday but even that was resolved easily. The beach room was perfect and a thank you to both our American (well New York) neighbours for the banter. The Tepee bar, the Barefoor grill and the Seagrape all perfect, the staff very accommodating. Avoid the front row for breakfast if seagulls swooping are not your thing. The Gauguin, lovely setting but watch out for mosquitos (take a spray and use it liberally, again thanks for the aloe vera), thr food at the Gauguin could have been better as regards to the variety, but well cooked and the kitchen not huge. Ismays good food and atmosphere but we preferred the variety of the main restaurant, the lobster (25 dollars extra) was worth the extra. We spent most of the holiday chilling but the taxi tour was good value and my husband spent a day fly fishing, Nick made the day an experience he will never forget. Overall great holiday and one of the resorts we definitely intend visiting again
