First to stay in the Unity Villa. Beautiful accommodations, heated pool, jacuzzi, steam shower, wine fridge, fireplaces in master, living and poolside. The staff was so accommodating from the welcome drink to the restaurant staff. Whatever we asked or needed it was greeted with warmth kindness and “we’ll see what we can do”. The services were great and the spa well appointed.

My husband and I came to Miraval looking for a transformational experience and were not disappointed. We stayed only two nights and had a profound shift even though I consider myself to be a very growth-oriented person with high expectations. I was very impressed that even though check in is at 3p and check out is at 11a, we were able to schedule activities as early as we liked the day we checked in (our activities started at 11:30) and as late as we wanted on the day we checked out (our last class ended at 5:30 and we continued to enjoy the incredible atmosphere of the resort until nearly 7.) My husband and I agreed that the staff at Miraval are what made it so magical. We had excellent treatment from the staff at guest services, the spa, the activity and class providers, the restaurant, the snackshop, the bell hops, etc. All were very authentic and accommodating and we felt right at home albeit very pampered! We started our Miraval adventure with the face-to-face ropes course challenge and it was the perfect way to get out of our comfort zones and into the change state that we were seeking through this experience. The brilliant facilitation of this challenge brought us both to a very mindful, open state of mind/heart that persisted through the whole experience. We partook in a wide range of activity types from the gratitude meditation, to the morning hikes, to excellent massages, to joyful workouts and delightful culinary classes. Along with our scheduled activities, we also had some spontaneous encounters that elevated the experience to a whole new level for us. The rooms and food both exceeded expectations and the Sonoran desert offered a stunning backdrop for our magical weekend! We're both so grateful that a friend suggested this resort to us and we trusted her recommendation. An experience that we will forever have among our fondest memories!

Disorganized, disappointed and underwhelmed! Our service was terrible- from Check In to check out. Very little joy going on— staff seemed disinterested and fairly distant. I was with my college age daughter and had told her how fabulous the experience would be- we could do nothing but laugh by the end because it was so unexpectedly disappointing

We met a dozen or more of the finest people in the business: Drew (chef), Ricardo (asst sommelier), Gabe (chef) in the kitchen. Kaitlyn was our superstar server most of the time. CJ (sommelier), Josh, and Brittany in the bar (now I understand Tequila in detail!). Nancy and Kelly for the horse photography class. And many more.... since cell phones are discouraged, I didn’t get the names in the spa recorded. But the most amazing person we met was Sheri Muskin, the resort manager. She should be Secretary of State for her people skills! “Exceeded expectations” doesn’t even begin to describe her. Book everything VERY early and be persistent! Book dinner time on the phone as soon as you wake up. If you can, book the semi-private Chef and Sommelier dinner. Seriously one of the best dining experience ever - I would come to Miraval just for that!

I recently made my second week long trip to Miraval, for family vacation. TL;DR--Miraval is really great overall. The villas are ideal for groups and families but Miraval needs to upgrade the villa service which is currently not commensurate with the price. Miraval pros: -this is such a great place to vacation as a family. The volume and diversity of activities means you can craft totally different trips for different family members. If someone wants a spa and relax trip, and someone wants to get up at 6AM every day and hike for 5 hours, they can both do that. -Exceptional quality of activities and activity staff. From the hiking guides to the meditation coaches to the fitness instructors--reliably great. -The spa is truly one of the best I've been to anywhere in the world. So many unique treatments and truly topnotch masseuses and aestheticians. -The food is great and there are a lot of really healthy options, in contrast to many resorts which assume you must want to indulge if you're on vacation. At the same time, the menu doesn't feel like diet food. Cons: -service: while the activity staff are great, the concierges and housekeeping team are really hit and miss. At this level of resort, for these prices, you should not encounter again and again basic service mishaps like cleaning errors (like arriving to find a bag full of the previous guest's trash on the bathroom floor), failing to deliver requested items, forgetting parts of room service orders, and ignoring guest requests made before booking about room details. We stayed in a villa, which was fantastic for a group like ours. However, we were really frustrated with our villa concierge and ended up using the main desk concierge instead. The primary villa concierge was clearly in training--why they had staffed the villa desk with someone in training during peak season we couldn't understand--and didn't know how to use the booking software. She was nice but generally inept, doing things like telling us activities were not available based on using the previous week's activity book. Theoretically, having access to the villa concierge is supposed to be an incentive to book a villa, but we were getting a much worse experience than the "regular" guests. Getting the best out of Miraval really has a learning curve, so here are my tips: -BOOK ACTIVITIES IN ADVANCE. If you're there during a peak period (winter) you want to book your top priority activities 3-4 weeks out to be safe. In my experience the activities that book the fastest are: equine activities, off property hikes (they cap the groups at like 8 people), water/Thai massages, and floating meditation. -Book defensively. It's better to book activities "defensively" and have them locked in before your trip, and then cancel what you don't want when you arrive because you can cancel a few days ahead without penalty. You can also pass on your activities to your travel companions--telling the concierge you want to cancel your activity and give the slot to your companion. -persistence pays off: if you didn't get activities you wanted by booking in advance, keep following up with the concierge to inquire about availability. A lot of guests have a tendency to over schedule themselves, and to overestimate their willingness to be up for AM activities, so spots free up at the last minute. -Don't overschedule yourself (speaking of over scheduling). There are so many activities that you can spend your whole trip racing between them. Give yourself space to breathe. -Come to breakfast ready to reserve your dinner time. You have to reserve your party's dinner time by writing in a reservation book in the morning. Miraval guests are big early birds so the prime dinner times book up fast during peak season. -The off property hikes are intense, be conservative in your estimate of your hiking level. Even the hikes that are ranked as moderate are actually pretty hardcore in my experience, involving significant elevation gains in heat that is challenging even in the winter. Be prepared.
