The Miraval is a very different resort, recently acquired by Hyatt. When you're asked to not use your cell phone, except in your room or within the one cell phone designated area, you know this place will be unlike others where you've stayed. First of all, do as much research as possible before your visit, but you'll still be surprised. We looked online quite a bit, called and talked with people who worked there. This was all in an attempt to book experiences we wanted to do during our visit. I was told when I booked the room that we should keep an eye on the calendar and book activities as soon as we saw them. This was kind of a pain because we had to remember to check their activity calendar all the time. Sure enough, when I saw that activities were available, one I had wanted to do was already full. We booked a two night stay, which meant we each had $350 in resort credits to use on spa treatments or fee-based activities like zip-lining or mountain biking. The credits can't be used on merchandise or alcohol, unfortunately. We discovered at the end of our visit that there are taxes added to your activities as well. They hit your credit card for $500 at check-in, so be aware of that. Even though we did not exceed our resort credit allotment, the $500 charge isn't removed until your stay is over, so if your credit card cycles during that time, you may be paying it. While they offer around 200 different activities, they won't all be available while you're there. For me, the three activities I wanted to do the most were not available to me during our visit. These included a more serious photography class, a horseback riding experience that had filled up, and a wine class. All of your food is included in your stay. It is thoughtfully prepared, organic, and mostly delicious. To be honest, you'll probably find some of it to be "out there" like the avocado chocolate chip cookies (why mess with a perfect food?) or some of the dinner time options (squid or duck?). If you're an adventurous eater, you should love it! I was sick during our entire visit, so was unable to eat much at all. The waitstaff was quick to want to take care of me, and I was provided with a drink for people with nausea that was effective, made of ginger, honey, and lemon, without even having to ask for it. We found the entire resort to be super quiet, and super dark at night. We used our cellphone flashlight apps to get around after sundown. Because of the varying ground levels and stairs there, I'm surprised if they don't have a lot of falls. Speaking of after dark, there isn't much to do there after the sun goes down. You can visit the bar on your own dime if that's up your alley, but we didn't. As far as activities, I had the best pedicure I've ever had at the Miraval. My husband enjoyed his desert mountain biking adventure, something he'd always wanted to do but couldn't because taking your own bike on an airplane is a pain and expense. We both did zip lining, which required us to climb a telephone pole. Had I known this, I don't think I'd have signed up for it. We attended various classes which all focused on the Miraval theme of "mindfulness" in different ways. I confirmed that I'm not good at sitting still and focusing on meditating about anything. There are three pools, too. The guest room we stayed in was nice enough, similar to other rooms we have stayed in at other resorts. The lighting in the room was on the dark side, I could have used a couple of lamps. The heavy, puffy, down comforter on the bed was way too much for us. We found it impossible to get comfortable that first night, being too hot with it or too cold without it. I asked for a cotton blanket for the next night and that problem was solved. I also asked for s humidifier because the super dry desert air was bothering me. I couldn't do much about the outdoors, but it made our room air a lot better! If you like a strong shower stream, you will love this one! We are glad we had the experience of visiting the Miraval, it's really a unique place.

I had not been to a spa before and didn't know what to expect. It was a great trip and Miraval lived up to its reputation! The food was great. There were lots of informative seminars as well as hikes and other physical activities to keep you occupied. I highly recommend Andrew Wolf. Out of all of my planned events I found his the most informing and beneficial.

The resort tells you that you have a $175 credit per person per night for actirities but what they don't tell you is that in addition to the room rate, there is an additional $150 resort fee so you are really only getting a $25 credit toward activities and spa treatments. Also be sure to book activities, classes and spa treatments way in advance of your stay because otherwise the classes or treatments will not be available as they are full or already booked.

Excellent spa to recharge your engines! I met a college classmate whom I hadn't seen in 38 years. It was a perfect reunion. Now I'd like to return with a larger group. Lectures, activities and food are extraordinary, spa services perfect.

I recently visited Miraval for my first 4-night stay and I want to share how wonderful my visit was and thank a few resort staff who stood out. Miraval was a lot more than I expected. It has so many options and I tried to experience several this trip. I had outstanding, and unique, fitness classes, a morning hike, relaxing (and mindful) self awareness training (I'm new to this area), high quality and indulgent spa treatments, and exquisite dining experiences. This place has so much to offer and absolutely everything I did was high quality and had a personal touch. I felt pampered and special. Just what I needed! I want to highlight a few staff members who really stood out. Kayla was the first staff member I met after check in during a late lunch. She was a delight. Very engaging and informative. I saw her a few times during my visit and she was friendly and personable. A great first impression. My experiences in the dining area were a highlight of the trip. Food was so fresh and unique. Stephen, one of the managers in the evening, was great. He answered tons of questions about how food was prepared and sourced, and gave us a tour of the kitchen. He also shared recipes of some of our favorite dishes which I can't wait to share. Julian was one of our waiters on a very busy evening and he was charming and attentive. He was clearly busy but he didn't make us feel rushed or ignored. He was a delight to talk with. Last to highlight, but definitely not least, was Chef Frank, who hosted two of our food experiences, Let's get saucy and Cocktails in the kitchen. Chef was exceptional and we all had a great time at these events. He most definitely loves what he does and shared his talents and passions with us. He made these events a stand-out of my trip. I highly recommend these fun foodie extras. The staff at Miraval were above all the most professional and happy I've ever met at a resort/spa. They all love what they do and it shows in how they treated me, and everyone I talked too. Miraval was truly a wonderful experience and I hope to make it back on as regular a basis as I can, and bring along more girlfriends too. We all need this type of getaway!!
