Reviews for Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa

A great resort to relax with.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This was our first time at this particular resort, but have visited many Dreams resorts, so we had some idea of what to expect. The resort is much larger than we expected, and is beautiful. The downside of the pool is always the same (if you don't get up before the sun rises and go and claim a chair(s), you won't find one at all at the pool, or you'll be in direct sunlight all day). The poolside staff keep guests entertained and offer lots of activities. Because the pool(s) aren't deep (no deeper than 4ft) the water is often very warm late in the day - so if you're looking to cool off, this may disappoint you. While the sargassum was pretty bad, the staff did a great job of minimizing it's impact. After a day or so, we weren't bothered by the smell, a lot of it had been cleared from the beach and we saw MANY people swimming in the ocean. The chairs on the beach area are plentiful and offer amazing views, gentle breeze and a relaxing experience. We'd heard that mosquitos were terrible at the resort. And while we did see a few, we were not bitten once. There's lots of wildlife on the resort. You will see iguana's everywhere during the day when they come out to sun bathe. Don't be shocked if you see several raccoon's that live on the property in the evening, and be sure to say hello to the 2-3 resident cats on the property. Restaurants: Seaside grill - excellent fish taco's!! Barefoot Grill - standard fare (hot dogs, hamburgers, nacho's). Bordeaux - found the food to be below average compared to other Dreams's resorts. The service was okay, but not amazing. Portofino - Outstanding lasagna and chicken parm. Overall excellent experience. They also serve breakfast here which is very good. Himatsu - A pan-asian restaurant. They have only 1 Hibachi table which can seat 6-8. If you want that experience, you need to book a reservation in advance. Many don't know it but you can order the hibachi menu, and have it brought to your table. The food was awesome here. Patio - Traditional Mexican dishes. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was fun and enjoyable. World Cafe - the buffet. This restaurant offers a little bit of everything for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so anyone should be able to find some good food here. On Monday's they hold an outside buffet in the plaza which is very nice. Coco Cafe - the coffee bar. This building is amazing and was a daily visit for us (sometimes twice) for great barista coffee, pastries and snacks. They offer comfortable seating and you'll often find people playing cards or enjoying a good book. The Smoothie/ice cream bar is also in this building. Entertainment. Pool - you can count on water aerobics, volleyball, water bingo, and lots of other fun activities. The pool staff are awesome at keeping people engaged. Sugar Reef (bar) - usually has some sort of entertainment each night. On Saturday they host a market where local merchants come and set up. You may purchase many handmade items and haggle for a souvenir or two. Monday night was Karaoke, which was hilarious and very enjoyable. The Plaza - next to Patio and behind Coco Cafe' hosts an outdoor buffet on Monday. We saw a wonderful fire dancing show on Tuesday night We did see many families with children of all ages. They do offer activities for young people, but I'm not sure to what extent. There were several weddings taking place at the resort during our stay and the staff seemed to have done a great job from what we observed. Room - We stayed in a Deluxe Junior King Suite with Garden View in the main building. The room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. AC was nice and cold. We did wished they'd offered more TV channels in English though. We ended up streaming shows/movies on our laptop. Overall experience was very favorable and I would definitely recommend the resort to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, a wedding destination or a great family vacation at an affordable price.

Decent 4 star resort

I loved my time at this resort! The grounds are spacious and the trees/animals (agoutis, iguanas, etc) make you feel like you're in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. I liked the food at the specialty restaurants, but the buffet food lacked variety and was not good. I almost threw up while eating at breakfast one day and had to go lie down in my room. Overall, I think the food choices and cooking needs to improve. The drinks at the bar were watered down, but still decent. Room service food was punctual and of good quality except the pizza. I didn't like the fact that I nearly got my head ripped off when I called the room service attendant and complained about the undercooked pizza. If the food is raw or doesn't taste good, then people have a right to complain! The entertainment was good. The foam party was fun and I liked the silent disco. The staff were friendly, attentive and gave great service. Geyser made sure I found seats at the pool especially when it was crowded and I couldn't find a spot to lie down and place my beach bag. Housekeeping came almost every day and did a good job. I used the spa services - it was heavenly! However, the staff's level of English was so-so so I had trouble understanding what was going on. I'd recommend learning some Spanish or some basic phrases for situations like these. Overall, it's a good resort, and a nice place to take your family or go with friends. I went solo and had a blast :)
