Arizona Trail: Marshall Lake to Fisher Pt
Flagstaff has some of the most premiere mountain biking trails in the country and if you're a fan of the sport, Arizona Trail is not be missed. This trail is great for mountain biking and, in the winter, cross-country skiing. It is a section of a trail that will one day connect to other sections, providing a seamless journey throughout the entire state of Arizona. Until that day, set aside 3 or 4 hours for mountain biking or up to six hours for hiking, and be prepared to see elk, deer, horny toads, friendly snakes, and even javelina. About three miles down the trail, visitors will arrive at Fischer Point, which is a quick one-mile climb to a view of the entire south side of Walnut Canyon. This is a spectacular view, well worth the climb. The Arizona Trail can be accessed at the intersection of Lone Tree and Zuni, near the south side Coconino Community College. This primitive road (no cars allowed) will take you to a small pond at the Rio del Flag water treatment facility surrounded by red lava rock. From there, look for the trailhead, which is an unmarked steep climb on your right.
