Australia Trip Itineraries

Best things to do in Perth

Destination(s): Perth

On your first trip to Perth, you'll want to explore the best highlights of the Western Australian capital city. The Perth city centre itself is a great place to start, walking through Kings Park and heading over the railway line to the cultural centre of Northbridge for some art, and a few drinks. While based in Perth you can get close to nature at the Caversham Wildlife Park which has the best experiences with kangaroos and koalas in Perth. Move down to the port of Fremantle for a couple of days, and enjoy the seafood and local beer, before taking a ferry over to Rottnest Island and staying overnight. Come back to the Hillarys Boat Harbour where you can explore the large aquarium, have a meal overlooking the water and stay in the local resort. read more about Best things to do in Perth

Kings Park & Botanic Gardens

Kings Park & Botanic Gardens

Kings Park, Perth's answer to Central Park, is a short walk uphill from the city centre and has 400 hectares of parks and bush to enjoy. Views over the city of Perth and the Swan River abound from the front of the park, where you can walk the Federation Walkway and explore the Botanic Gardens with thousands of examples of native wildflowers, trees and birdlife. Stop for a meal at Fraser's Restaurant or grab a snack at the cafe; watch the kids play at the Synergy Parkland or if you're feeling fit, climb the DNA Tower.

Caversham Wildlife Park is home to 2,000 species of Australian animals and birds, and it's no regular zoo - you can walk through most of the animal enclosures, feed the kangaroos, pat the koalas and hold a wombat, if you're strong enough! The farm show demonstrates life on an Aussie farm with chances to milk a cow, bottle feed a lamb or learn to crack a whip. Take a picnic to enjoy on the grass next to the kangaroo enclosure or use the barbecues in nearby Whiteman Park. read more about Caversham Wildlife Park
