Paxia

Paxia

  • Mexico City, 01000

Set in the traditional, colonial neighbourhood of San Angel (think cobblestone streets, large Spanish influence mansions) Paxia fits the neighbourhood perfectly. Multi-award winning restaurant Paxia (meaning peace in Nahuatl) is without a doubt one of the most sophisticated and all around best dinning experiences in the city. Impecable service, jaw dropping decor (a mixture between Asian and Mexican touches accompanied by excellent lighting), yet with a casual and unpretentious feel to it. Paxia's food matches this ambiance perfectly' Mexican traditional dishes get a surprising reworking here - as in the chicharron (pork grind) lasagne with a pulque sauce; the ostentetious Aztec Budin (a masterfully, if excessive dish including foie gras, truffles which won top main dish in Mexico City in 2008) the "drunken duck" enchiladas with a dark beer sauce, etc. It's entree and bar menu are equally impressive and include a selection of local boutique beers, top range Mexican wines and cocktails invented by the in-house barman. read more about Paxia

Chef Salvatore Messina oversees the food, sommelier Sabrina Sanchez the wine service. The sunset views of Land's End and El Arco are overseen by a higher power. This is truly one of the most romantic restaurants on earth, with tables perched seemingly atop the Sea of Cortez. The food is Italian centric, although those who like the fresh local seafood will find menu options to their liking. And, unlike many restaurants, the culinary staff at Sunset Da Mona Lisa doesn't mind dealing with special dietary requirements. Considering the magnificence of the setting, it is perhaps not surprising that they have wedding services available. Both the food and the service here are outstanding, but it is the romantic and awe-inspiring atmosphere that makes this one of the most incredible dining experiences you will ever have. read more about Sunset Da Mona Lisa

Kookaburra

  • Carretera Escénica s/n, Local 3, Col. Marina Las Brisas
  • tel:(+52) 744 - 446 6020
  • Acapulco, 39889

For a long time this was the best restaurant in Acapulco for romantic atmosphere, style, sea views and cuisine and it still is among the top in the Las Brisas area. Decor is white and fresh, with natural materials (wood and thatch, stone and pebbles) without being rustic. It tends to be business lunches at around 2 to 4 pm and more romantic dining or larger groups in the evenings, when the place flickers with candles. It is a favorite with Acapulco's political and business classes, so you can rest assured its dishes (mostly international fare, with a touch of Mediterranean) and prices are not just aimed at tourists. The starters are very good and of the main courses the fish and seafood dishes tend to be the best options. Dress on the formal side. read more about Kookaburra

Truly one the gems of Puerto Vallarta, Barcelona Tapas is a great restaurant for celebrations or romance. Although the several flights of stairs can be a deterrent for those with limited mobility, the climb is worth it for a stunning view of Banderas Bay. The tapas, or small plates, are delectable. You should not miss the Aioli Potato Salad or Stacked Roasted Beets for veggie dishes or the Angus Beef Brochette and Garlic Shrimp for meat-eaters. They are also well-known for the paella and their sangria. Everything on the menu, from the bread to the ice cream is made in-house in the open kitchen. This is a "don't miss!"
