Pan Pay is Puerto Viejo's local favorite hang-out cafe and bakery, close to the bus station and near the water's edge in Puerto Viejo. The outside tables have a view of both the ocean and the police station, fine vantage points for drinking coffee, fresh juice and breakfast. Most of the plates are less than $5, and come with delicious bread spread lightly with tomato and olive oil. It's a fine place to hang out and read the paper.
