Reviews for La Perla del Caribe
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time at La Perla. The resort is beautiful and especially private. Our home was ideally located and we felt like we were there by ourselves. The pool was wonderfully located within the property, providing amazing ocean vistas. The property did not have a restaurant, we did not find this to be a problem because there were many wonderful restaurants easily accessible by golf cart. We enjoyed the extra privacy and our excursions off property each evening for dinner.

We, a group of 8, arrived at La Perla on a whim after we decided to leave our originally booked villa ( which is was not) spontaneously after the first night. Felix, the property manager was immediately helpful and contacted the owners of 2 villas for availability and we successfully moved into the4 bedroom, 4 bathroom TOPAZ property. We felt immediately welcome and at home. The staff was forthcoming from the very first minute of ur arrival and the resort was tip-top maintained. The beach, the pool and the pier are all what you heat will want to lay back and enjoy the sunshine and the ocean. The rooms are all air conditioned and there is plenty of warm water to go around for everybody. The kitchen is well sorted with utensils and the fridge is clean and spacious. Ice and drinking water can be obtained at the property, but all other food items, inclusive drinks, booze, snacks, fruit and eggs have to by purchased in a grocery store. They will deliver if you ask though. The drive to the resort is pretty long and cumbersome, due to the road conditions and it will be not an option to not rent one of the golf carts in San Pedro to keep you mobile. The closes grocery store is about a mile away and the "down town:" area is about 20 min of a drive. Also there are 4 Orr 5 restaurants within a mile, but only 2 can be recommended to walk to. The others are only reachable via golf cart. All of the restaurants are good to very good and none of them is cheap. But neither are the groceries. Once you have all that behind you, nothing will be in your way to enjoy every minute of your stay. The resort is very quiet and you will meet at most 3 or 4 people at the pool at one time. It's perfect for couples who want their quiet time and for larger groups ( like we were) who want to have their own place without having to adhere to some interfering house rules etc. We will definitely go back there once more before we move on to a different region in the Caribbean. Thank you La Perla, thank you Felix.
We had a wonderful week at Villa Ruby at La Perla. There were 7 of us - all women on a birthday celebration week. We arrived late at night and Felix, the property manager, was there to welcome us to our little slice of paradise! The villa has 5 very comfortable bedrooms and we were quite comfortable. We ordered groceries to be delivered from Matagrande Grocery so had some basics on hand (beer, wine, tortilla chips, salsa, burritos for breakfast) to hold us over until the next day lunchtime. I would recommend eating in San Pedro after your flight arrives if you're arriving late in the day as the property is fairly remote and after a long day of travel it's nice to just relax in the villa! (We ate at El Fogon right across the street from the airport and it was delicious.) Definitely arrange for a golf cart rental while you're there - Felix and his capable team can handle any request you send his way prior to your arrival! There was a security guard who starts his shift before Felix leaves for the night and he was great about meeting us at the property entrance when we arrived home from evening outings to nearby restaurants (Mamba, Rojo & Portofino). Gloria and her housekeeping staff were extremely personable and able to take care of a last minute request to an additional cleaning while we were there. We hired Mary Trejo (her info is at the Matagrande Grocery) to come give some of us massages. WOW! She's strong and gives an amazing deep tissue massage. If you want to go into San Pedro be prepared for a long, bumpy ride on the golf cart (about 35 minutes) or take a water taxi - they come about every 1-1/2 - 2 hours for about US$11 each way. Villa Ruby's kitchen was well appointed - we didn't do much cooking but were able to make eggs each morning and some fish tortillas one day. The property was immaculate and everything in great working condition. A big extra "Thank You" to Felix and all the staff on the property who were especially kind and helpful anytime we had questions! If ever another opportunity arises we'd love to return!

The resort grounds are well maintained and the view and beach is spectacular. It is very quiet and tranquil, comfy hammocks, nice dock with a swing, beautiful palm trees and an awesome sea breeze. This resort is remote, 30 minutes from town down a dirt road. There is no restaurant or shuttle to grocery store. Be advised, you MUST rent a golf cart and bring all food with you. We did not know this, and arrived at 7pm after a long day of travel and had no way to get anything to eat. We asked to rent a golf cart and were told there were no more available. We were advised to walk down the beach 2 properties over to a restaurant, and had to fight off a vicious guard dog that actually bit a member of our party while trying to make it to restaurant. So do your research, you can order groceries to be delivered so that they will be waiting in your villa for you or stop in town and stock up on your way out there. We stayed in Villa Amethyst, a 4 bedroom. The cons: The coffee maker did not work, the oven did not work, the refrigerator door fell off, no toaster, no blender, 3 drinking glasses and 4 forks for a villa that sleeps 10, the phone to contact office either did not work or they never answered it, we never received fresh towels, no maid service except for trash pickup. Pros: when I finally found a staff member to ask for help with broken items, they did respond promptly and tried to repair. All staff members were friendly and helpful. You have the option of a/c or open air. The beds are incredibly comfy, deck view is awesome, all the tv's worked, plenty of hot water for showering, tour pickup is convenient at the end of the dock. We were with a large group and I did visit several of the other smaller villas, and they seemed to be in much better working order and fully stocked with working appliances. Perhaps it is just Villa Amethyst that needs some attention. We booked 2 tours with Felix, and both of them were messed up. The first one got cancelled without my knowledge, the second one the price Felix quoted me was not the price the captain asked for at the end of the trip. Overall, La Perla is a beautiful resort in paradise and I would recommend you stay there, just not in Villa Amethyst. The waterfront villas have a million dollar view and deck. As long as you have a golf cart and groceries, you will enjoy your stay.

Our group of 14 rented 2 villas in January 2018 (Villas Opal and Sands). What a wonderful vacation. We were stunned when we walked on to the property. The white sand, impeccably clean resort, and Villas with extraordinary views of the blue sea are beyond anything I have seen. It felt very private and was definitely low key and relaxing. The onsite staff is incredible. Felix arranged tours, and was a great help with any need we had. It is located 6 miles north of San Pedro, so we didn't do a lot of traveling back and forth to town. We had meals prepared by a local chef which was lovely. Highly recommend.
