Reviews for La Perla del Caribe
We stayed in the Villa Emerald the end of February and had an amazing time. The resort grounds were maintained very well, and our Villa was perfect. Loved the location of the Emerald, just steps from the ocean and unobstructed views from the large patio. The only negative of the beach was all the sea grass, the resort workers worked hard to remove it, but there was always some out there. For us, the beauty of the Villa, the resort grounds and service made up for that negative. We also enjoyed the kayaks daily, very fun to paddle out a ways and snorkel! We would go back in a heartbeat and have been missing it ever since we left!

LaPerla is a unique, tranquil, comfortable and safe haven on the north side of Ambergris, Caye. We found our villa offering great space, wonderful views of the ocean, outdoor patios and screened in porches to enjoy the warm tropical breeze all day and night, simply a magical place. All the property help was extremely responsive and cheerful to help us with all the needs of our party of 7. How blessed the Belzian people are with their gifts of tropical blue waters, sun and the escape from the hustle of every day city life.
Felix and his staff are amazing, helpful with any needs, booking outings, transportation to/from the airport and recommendations. The villa was beautiful with great patios and big/open floor plan. A few issues we were not prepared for that lead to the three star rating. Apparently February & March are when the sargasso (type of seaweed) overtakes the majority of the beaches on the island making them un-swimmable. I realize your can't control Mother Nature and the staff did their best to clear it and keep it at bay. Over the 10 days we stayed the pool was closed for 4 of those days for some type of maintenance - no one could ever really tell us what was going on or when to expect it to be closed so we could plan other activities in advance for those days. With four young kids it's a tough pill to swallow when the beach and pool are out for a beach vacation for multiple days. Coming from a mountain climate I'm not used to worrying about scorpions. Half way through the trip we found two in the downstairs bedrooms where the kids were sleeping. A note to visitors to keep towels, bags, clothing off the floor might help those with kids who aren't used to worrying about dangers of providing scorpions a perfect hiding spot. I realize construction is different outside of the US but the guardrail in the patio is tough if you have little kiddos as it is split rail with very large openings. My son who is very active and adventurous couldn't resist trying to get close to the edge and play on the railing which was tough as you really get no down time if you have kids under 3 or so. I read a lot about the cost of the island before coming and I downplayed it...we live in a high end resort community and have visited other islands so I thought I had an inkling of what to expect...I was wrong...I have never been anywhere as expensive as the island...be prepared. Golf carts are a must. Secret beach is great, get there early. Do the majority of your grocery shopping at SuperBuy in town - it's like a island version of Costco.
This was our first time in Belize, and we selected this property based upon reviews from others. The property is beautiful, and yes fairly remote. Each of the villas is independently owned and apparently maintenance is based upon each owner. We stayed in Amber which was perfectly located and no issues at all. Other renters we met mentioned air conditioning issues in their units. Having a golf cart was key to the experience - local "roads" can be a challenge. A few must do's: arranging for the sisters from Chefs for Hire to prepare a meal in your villa (fantastic!); a half day reef fishing trip (Sen and Marvin were first rate); and a trip to the Secret Beach. Rojo Beach Bar just down the road was a fabulous and unexpected find. I would not rely on email communication with the on site team - there seemed to be either a lack of responsiveness or connectivity. Once on site everything was much easier.

Loved the quiet beautiful atmosphere at La Perla. Close to good restaurants and easy trip to town via golf cart. Villa very comfortable. Loved the décor within the villa. San Pedro is a fun little town and loved Estelles by the sea---shrimp nachos the best. Easy for short trip to Caye Cauker which is well worth the time.
