Belmond Las Casitas in Arequipa, Peru
With its luxury pedigree and a quiet canyon setting in bucolic southern Peru, Las Casitas del Colca embraces its harmonious surroundings. A cluster of 20 private and spacious casitas - some freestanding and others separated by a common lobby - are each individually appointed with cool indigenous tiles, foyers that segue to bedrooms and lounge areas, working fireplaces, and dressing rooms attached to bathrooms. There are also indoor and outdoor showers, allowing you to bathe beneath the cloudless skies. Each guest residence also has its own terrace as well as a private plunge pool. Rooms are equipped with telephones, wireless internet access, heated flooring, and mini bars for your additional comfort.
Housed in the resort's main building is the intimate à la carte restaurant whose menu is graced with Peruvian specialties. Andean meals are created from a cornucopia of fresh herbs and vegetables tended with care at the on-site gentleman's farm. Pastures are spotted with animals and livestock - including horses, cows, and rabbits - plus a trio of ponds filled with trout. Las Casita del Colca also has its own culinary school where students can learn from skilled chefs. Spa Samay is a place of relaxation and well being. Enter it through a meandering path through a fragrant eucalyptus grove and a small greenhouse growing the herbs and plants featured in the signature spa treatments. The activities offered are some of the simplest of pleasures, such as stargazing and horseback riding - a true complement the serene nature of this blessed land. Spend time in harmony with the Colca Canyon at Las Casitas del Colca.

Reviews for Belmond Las Casitas
Our agent had done all our bookings, so we did not really expect anything more than a basic hotel. Oh boy! This place is special! Tucked away, overlooking the canyon and river, set on a huge property where alpacas graze freely. The gardens are manicured and there's a beautiful walk through the kitchen gardens, green houses, animal enclosures and along the cliff top overlooking the valley. The accommodation however is next level!, it's beautifully appointed, huge and has every comfort you could wish for, including private terrace with heated plunge pool, massive bathroom, including Roman bath, inside and outside showers, full height windows to an enclosed garden, comfy sitting area and much more. The resort offers a spa and several free activities such as a pisco sour making demo, cooking class, hand massage, llama feeding and more.. The restaurant is great and will accommodate special requests. But it's the human element that makes this place so special, from the warm greeting at the top of the drive to the attention to all the small details. The care factor is so high. Very special mention to Claudia, Jesus and Arascely for their exceptional care.

I have never had any hotel show consistency in the way all staff care to ensure that your stay is remarkably good. The accommodation standard is sensational with your own outside heated spa pool, large rooms as incredible ensuite and walk through robe. There are also complimentary activities such as cooking class, cocktail making, fishing, head massage and more.
I recently visited Peru for a 6 day trip frequenting mostly Belmond properties. On a previous visit to Peru I had not managed to visit Colca Canyon which therefore was a priority this time. I booked the Presidential Casita which comes with an outdoor whirlpool. While I visited during summer, due to elevation the nights get quite cold. The whirlpool is well heated and the Casita features two fire places which exude a nice smell and good temperature. As part of the stay daily activities are included, such as pisco sour classes, head massages, etc. The condor viewing spot is only 50 minutes away. I recommend that guests rent a car in Arequipa and drive to the property as car rental rates are 1/12th of the cost of a hotel organised private car and driver. The rental car additionally provides the flexibility to drive locally as well. Stargazing is amazing and on the drive to and from Arequipa I managed to see wild Vicunas.

Great spacious comfortable casitas. Really good included activities - of which the best was feeding the baby alpacas!! Also loved the pisco and cooking classes. Enthusiastic friendly staff. Good food too. We only spent 2 nights there and there didn't seem to be many other guests but it was so beautifully laid out with fabulous grounds that we might not have seen them! Fabulous location to see the condors and the canyon.

Colca Canyon is astoundingly beautiful. And this hotel has a prime location nearby, with a fantastic immediate setting. The walk to and from the viewpoint is spectacular. The hotel accommodations are well integrated naturally into the surrounding, and spaced out well. Our kids enjoyed the alpaca feeding of the 4 baby alpacas, plus the trout fishing. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would readily stay at the same property again if we returned to Colca Canyon. Why only 4 stars? The food service was sub-par. They staff their breakfast with only one server and one cook. That allows them to serve and cook food for only one table at a time. We complained one day about this; the GM apologized and said it was due to a staffing mix-up that would be remedied. But the same thing happened the next day. It consistently took a half hour for eggs in the morning and 20 minutes just for a cappuccino. Plus, the quality of the food didn't match other Belmonds or places in Lima.
